Joyce M. Sweigart Stober, 73, Akron, Lancaster County, died May 23 at 8:41 a.m. in Essa Flory Hospice Center, East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. Her husband, Allen D. Stober, died Feb. 19, 2002. Her first husband, Harry O. Sweigart Jr., died Oct. 31, 1973. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Annie (Gehret) Lutz. Stober had been employed for 32 years by Bollman Hat Co., Adamstown, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Hopeland United Methodist Church, Clay Township, Lancaster County. Stober is survived by a son, Daryl L. Sweigart, Stevens, Lancaster County; a daughter, Karen A. (Sweigart) Brill, Ephrata; a stepson, James A. Stober, Annville, Lebanon County; and a stepdaughter, Nancy J. Stober, Akron. Other survivors include two brothers, Robert Lutz, Denver, Lancaster County, and Barry Lutz, Womelsdorf; and three sisters: Edith (Lutz) Texter, Vinemont, Spring Township; Betty (Lutz) Herb, Robesonia; and Fern (Lutz) Kohl, Reading. There are also four grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Roseboro Funeral Home, Denver. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township.

Stock, John J.

Services were held for John J. Stock, 91, of Levengood Road, Douglassville, who died March 2 in Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where he had resided since 2002. He was the husband of Fay Ann (Conrad) Stock. His first wife, Lillie Isabel (Rhoads) Stock, died in 1980. Born in Reading, Stock was employed for 32 years by Gudebrod, Inc., Pottstown, and was last employed for 20 years by Zieger & Sons Inc., Reading, retiring in 1978. He was a past chairman and 50-year member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Doris (Stock) Blimline, Laureldale, and Linda S. (Stock) Allen, Pottstown. Other survivors include two stepdaughters, Kathleen A. (Heinly) Wilder and Ellen Sue (Heinly) Trexler, both of Hamburg; and two stepsons, Wayne B. Heinly, Fleetwood, and Lee R. Heinly, in Pennsylvania. There are also six grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Charles F. Stock, in 1999. Burial was in Amityville Cemetery. The arrangements were handled by the Sanders Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc.

Stocker, Sarah

The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Stocker took place today from the residence of her sister, Mrs. A. P. Body, 414 Chestnut street. The remains were attired in a white dress and lay in a solid walnut casket, with silver trimmings and plate bearing name and age. Rev. C.E. Kistler held services at the house. The bearers were William Rapp, Charles Berg, George Stocker and Fred Body.

The body was taken to Leesport on the 1 o'clock train, Pennsylvania railroad, where interment was made in the Leesport Cemetery. Undertaker Henninger had charge.

Stofflet, Florence

Miss Florence Stofflet, of 951 Oak street, one of the most prominently known Christian Endeavor Workers in the county, passed away on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Allentown hospital, following a surgical operation performed on Saturday. Miss Stofflet was admitted to the hospital on August 15. Previous to that time she had been in ill health, suffering from kidney trouble. She was a native of Mertztown, Berks County, and was aged 43 years. Was a daughter of Mr. Mary and the late Charles B. Stofflet, the latter having died thirty three years ago. Since her residence in this city, she was active in Christian Endeavor activities. She affiliated with the congregation of Ebenezer Evangelical church, was superintendent of the Junior C. E. And was a member of the Mrs. G. Myers bible Class. For a number of years she was also corresponding secretary of the Lehigh County Christian Endeavor Society. There survive her mother, one sister, Lovie, and a brother, Lemer Stofflet, all of this city. The funeral will be held from the home of the mother, on Monday at 2 p.m., daylight saving time. Services will be conducted at the house, Rev. H. C. Lilly, pastor of Ebenezer church, officiating. Interment will be made in Greenwood cemetery.

Stofflet, Jane B. (nee Moyer)

Mrs. Jane B., widow of John Stofflet, died Monday at her home on Walnut street, Kutztown, following a long illness from complications, aged 70 years, 1 month and 12 days. Mrs. Stofflet was a born Moyer and was a native of Lehigh county. She is survived by the following children: Edwin, George and Charles, of Kutztown; Edna, of Harrisburg, and Mrs. James Serfass, of Allentown. A sister, Mrs. Henry Strauss, and a brother, Edwin Moyer, of Coplay also survive. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Services will be conducted at the house. Rev. E. H. Leimbach, pastor of St. John’s Reformed church, Kutztown, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in Hope cemetery, Kutztown.

Stofflet, Mary (nee Shirey)

Mrs. Mary Stofflet, whose vivid memories of pioneer days in the western states were familiar to a host of friends, died suddenly at 6 o’clock Saturday night while eating supper at her home, 951 Oak St. Death was due to a heart attack. She was in her 83rd year. As a young girl, Mrs. Stofflet traveled to Wisconsin with her father, the late Daniel Shirey, when he took a group of miners to the western state to open the ore mines there. Her stories of that trip and of her observations en route told the tale of pioneering in that section of the country. She was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Daniel Shirey. For 40 years she has been living at 951 Oak St. Her husband, Charles Stofflet, died 45 years ago. For many years she had been a member of Ebenezer Evangelical church. Surviving are one son, Elmer Stofflet of Allentown, a brother James Shirey of Reading, and several nephews and nieces. One son and two daughters preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. d.s.t. at the Trexler funeral home, 116 S. 8th St. Interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Rev. Paul Wert will officiate.

Stoltz, Carl V.

Carl V. Stoltz, 91, of 36 Linden St., Robesonia, died Wednesday at 10:25 p.m in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He was the husband of Leona M. (Smith) Stoltz. Born in Bethel Township, he was a son of the late Charles and Christina (Wingenfelt) Stoltz. Stoltz was employed for 10 years as a machine operator by Hofmann Industries, Sinking Spring, retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Robesonia. Other survivors include two sisters: Kathryn, widow of William Buck, Lebanon and Margaret, widow of Joseph DeMarco, Clifton Heights, Delaware County. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. (Note: from memory book: Carl V. Stoltz, Pauline Ellen (nee Manbeck)

Pauline Ellen Manbeck, wife of Harvey L. Stoltz, Jr., and daughter of Lloyd H. Manbeck and wife, Cora May Unger, born April 28, 1913, in U. Tulpehocken Twp., Berks Co., Pa., was baptized May 18, 1913, by Rev. O. E. Pflueger and confirmed in Zion Church, Strausstown, Oct. 15, 1927, by Rev. George S. Kressley. She was united in marriage to Harvey L. Stoltz, Jr., on April 19, 1930, by Rev. W. A. Dries, and died on Monday, Oct. 12, 1931, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Reading at the age of 18 years, 5 months and 14 days. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, her parents, three sisters, her maternal grandparents and her paternal grandmother. She was buried on Oct. 17, with services in the home and Zion Church, Strausstown, where burial was made.

Stoltzfus, Edith I.

Services were held in Zion Mennonite Church, Robeson Township, for Edith L. Stoltzfus, of Fredericksville Road, Mertztown, who died April 3 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where she had been a patient since March 10. Burial was in Oley Mennonite Cemetery, Oley Township. She was the wife of Noah S. Stoltzfus, past of Zion Mennonite Church. Born in Endicott, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Lula (Marean) Spencer. She was employed as an elementary teacher in Lima (N.Y.) Christian School from 1974 to 1986 and as director of Christian education by Landstown Community Church, Virginia Beach, Va., from 1987 to 1999. Stoltzfus was a 1952 graduate of Elim Bible Institute, Lima, and a 1972 graduate of the State University of New York, Genesceo. She was a member of Zion Mennonite Church. Also surviving are a son, K. Daniel Stoltzfus, Elizabeth, N.J.; a daughter, Pamela S. (Stoltzfus) Thimsen, Apex, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Andrew Spencer, Arkport, N.Y., and Phillip Spencer, Payson, Ariz.; and two sisters, Marion (Spencer) Seda, Dover, Del., and Priscilla (Spencer) Crosby, Flagstaff, Ariz. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, was in charge of arrangements.

Stoltzfus, Emery K.

Emery K. Stoltzfus, 90, formerly of Morgantown, died April 11 in Ephrata Community Hospital, He was taken to the hospital from Garden Spot Village, New Holland, Lancaster County. He was the husband of Flora (Umble) Stoltzfus. Born in Morgantown, he was a son of the late Stephen H. and Sadie (Kurtz) Stoltzfus. Stoltzfus was employed by the Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing; Bethlehem Steel Corp. and was last employed by Morgan Trailer, Morgantown, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Twin Valley Bible Chapel, Morgantown, where he was a former deacon and building-committee member. Stoltzfus was one of the founding members of the Morgantown Aero Club and was a pilot. He is also survived by two sons, Ronald, Lewes, Del., and J.D., Morgantown; and a daughter, Sally (Stoltzfus) Sauder, New Holland. Other survivors include two brothers, Clarence, New Holland, and Ralph, Akron, Lancaster County; and a sister, Mae (Stoltzfus) Shreiner, Leola, Lancaster County. There are also seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Garden Spot Village Chapel. Burial will be private in Pine Grove Cemetery, Elverson. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill, Lancaster County, is in charge of arrangements.

Stolz, Claire

Claire Stolz, 85, Reading, died May 8 in Lancaster General Hospital. Her husband, Michael Stolz, died in 1968. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen Marie (Del Reo) Good. Stolz was employed as an assistant to the chairman of the Federal Paper Board Co., Downingtown, and was employed as a decorator by the Hollenbach Construction Co., Bernville. She was last employed by VF Corp., Wyomissing, until her retirement. Surviving is a son, David, Reading. Services were private. Stradling Funeral Home Inc., Ephrata, was in charge of arrangements.

Stone, Elsie E. (nee Bortz)

Mrs. Elsie E. Stone, 53, wife of George W. Stone, 1317 Hickory St., Allentown, died at 9:15 last night at the Allentown hospital. Mrs. Stone had been ailing six weeks and was admitted to the hospital Monday. She was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, a daughter of the late William H. and Louisa Bortz. She was a member of Zion Reformed church and New Temple chapter, O.E.S. The only survivor besides her husband is a cousin, Mrs. Laura Kurtz of Allentown. Funeral arrangements will be completed today.

Stoner, Eli N.

Stoner, Eli N., in the morning hours of November 19, quietly changed his residence from earth to Heaven. He enjoyed 86 years, 4 months, and 24 days upon this earth. Bro. Stoner was the son of the late Eli K. and Anna Hershey Stoner. He was born in Lancaster County, Penna. At the time of his departure, he resided at his home on Douglass Street, Reading. He was a faithful member of Grace Church, Reading, for many years. Our brother is survived by his faithful wife, Mary J. Schlappich Stoner, and two sons, Robert and Harold, both of San Diego, California. The service was conducted at the Auman Homes by his pastor. Prayer was offered by Rev. H. D. Wittmaier. Interment was made at the Union Cemetery at Schuylkill Haven. The Lord is surely comforting those who mourn. __G. R. Booth

Stoner, M.C.

First Coca-Cola Man. Chambersburg, Sept. 5 -- M.C. Stoner, 78, who organized the first company to manufacture coca-cola, died at his home here today. Stoner for several years was agent here for the Western Maryland Railway, but moved to Atlanta. While there he purchased the coca-cola formula from the originator and organized a company to manufacture it. According to friends of Stoner here, the company's advertizing manager soon put the firm into financial difficulties by spending $17,000. The company's interests were then sold to Asa Candler. After this business venture Stone returned here. Later he acquired interests in Florida orchards and in coal mines in Huntington county. A widow and a daughter survive.

Stott, Richard R.

Richard R. Stott, a retired junior high school teacher, died May 5 in his residence in Exeter Township. Stott, 82, was employed for 17 years as a junior high school teacher in the Reading and Boyertown school districts until his retirement. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Raymond H. and Dorothy A. (Brookmoyer) Stott. Stott was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. There are no immediate survivors. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Auman Funeral Homes, Reading. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.

Stoudt, Amandon Urias

Stoudt - In Penn, on the 5th instant Amandon Urias, son of Alfred F. and Sarah M. Stoudt, aged 5 years, 3 months and 15 days.

Stoudt, Betty M.

Betty M. Stoudt, 68, Ontelaunee Township, died of natural causes Aug. 3 at 1:15 a.m. in Laurel Center Genesis Eldercare, Tilden Township, where she had been a patient since May 8. She was the wife of Paul A. Stoudt. Born in Richmond Township, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Henn. Stoudt had been employed as a sewing-machine operator at several area knitting mills, last working at Spring-Ford Knitting Mill, Leesport, retiring in 1999. She was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township. Also surviving is a son, David P., Derby, Kan. Other survivors include two sisters, Virginia (Henn) Falcon, Reading, and Linda (Henn) Walters, Boyertown. There are also three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Centerport. Burial will be in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Township.

Stoudt, Elizabeth Agnes (nee DeLong)

Mrs. Elizabeth Agnes (DeLong) Stoudt, widow of the Rev. Dr. John Baer Stoudt, clergyman-historian-author, died yesterday in Muhlenberg Medical Center, where she had been admitted July 27. She was 86. Mrs. Stoudt resided at 1054 Tilghman St., Allentown. She was the mother of the Rev. Dr. John Joseph Stoudt of Norristown who, like his late father, has authored a book and given many lectures on its topic, early Pennsylvania arts and crafts. Mrs. Stoudt was born near Topton, a daughter of the late Joseph S. and Mary Hoch (Yoder) DeLong. She and Dr. Stoudt were married in 1908, shortly after his ordination as a minister of the Reformed faith. Her husband served charges in Emmaus and Western Salisbury until 1922, then retired from the pulpit to devote himself principally to research and compilation of historical data. He died in 1944. Mrs. Stoudt was a member for more than 50 years of Liberty Bell Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also the last surviving charter member of the Huguenot Society of Pennsylvania, which her husband organized. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Allentown, and a life member of the auxiliaries of Phoebe and Devitt Homes. Surviving in addition to her son is a grandson. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown. There are no calling hours.

Stoudt, Elsie I.

Funeral services were held for Elsie I. (Baus) Stoudt, 89, of Upper Frederick, formerly of Royersford, who died January 31 in the Frederick Mennonite Home. She was the widow of Walter R. Stoudt. Born in Earlville, she was a supervisor for the former Valley Forge Flag Co. before retiring in the early 1980s. She was a member of Linfield United Church of Christ, where she served as an elder and a member of the Church Guild. Surviving are two sisters, Lydia Dilliplane of Pottstown and Grace Graber of Pennsburg; and a brother, Ralph Baus of Boyertown. Contributions may be made to Linfield United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 4, Royersford, PA 19468. Burial will be in the Limerick Garden of Memories. The arrangements were handled by the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home in Royersford.

Stoudt--In Lower Heidelberg township, on the 19th inst., Isaac Stoudt, aged 72 years. Stoudt, James

Schubert, June 29 (Special). James Stoudt died Tuesday, from a complication of diseases, at his home here, aged 78 years, 3 months and 21 days. He was a retired farmer and was a son of the late William and Mary (Manbeck) Stoudt. There survive his widow, Susan (Ziegler) Stoudt; these children: Frank, Elizabethtown; Isaac, West Reading; Nora, wife of Cress Valentine, Rehrersburg, Charles, Strausstown; Jane, wife of Jacob Reber, this place; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Emma, widow of Morris Garloff, Myerstown. Funeral Saturday, July 2, at 9:20 a.m. from the home. Further services in Ziegler's Meeting House, Rev. Ira W. Gibble, Rev. George Snyder and Rev. Jacob Merkey officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery in charge of Funeral Director C.E. Schucker, of Rehrersburg.

Stoudt, June F.

Services for Jeffrey A. Rentschler, 19, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Reading Moravian Church. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reiffton, is in charge of arrangements. Rentschler, Jefferson Township, was killed in a one-car crash along Host Church Road in the township April 8 at about 4:50 p.m., officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County coroner, Dr. Nicholas Bybel. Born in Reading, he was a son of Steven G. and Denise J. (Pinkerton) Rentschler, at home. Rentschler had been employed as a waiter by the Heidelberg Country Club, last working within a week of his death. He was a member of Reading Moravian Church. Rentschler was a 2003 graduate of Tulpehocken High School and was attending Alvernia College, where he was a member of the golf team. He is also survived by a sister, Kayla J. Rentschler, at home, and his maternal grandmother, Jean M. (Kline) Pinkerton, Myerstown, Lebanon County.

Stoudt, Kathryn (nee Lauer)

Mrs. Kathryn, nee Lauer, Stoudt, Macungie R. 1, died at 8:30 o’clock Friday night at her home. She had been ailing for the last seven months during which time she underwent surgical treatment twice. She was 29 years of age. Born in Longswamp township, Berks county, Mrs. Stoudt was a daughter of Harry lauer and Lizzie, nee Schmoyer. She was a member of the Reformed wing of Huffs church and was a member of the Sunday school of the same. Surviving are her husband, William Stoudt; her parents, a brother, Howard Lauer, Macungie R. 1, and her grandfather, Manasses Schmoyer. Services will be held on Wednesday at 1.30 o’clock from her late home, with further services at Huffs church. Burial will be made in Rauch cemetery, Huffs church. Friends may call at her late home Tuesday night from 7 to 9 o’clock. Rev. J. N. Blatt will officiate.

Stoudt, Lucille S.

Among the local survivors of Lucille S. (Boyer) Stoudt, who died of natural causes Nov. 27 in Reading Hospital, is a son, Timothy B. Stoudt, Kutztown.

Stoudt, Lucy M. (nee Bauer)

Mrs. Lucy M., nee Bauer, Stoudt, wife of Paul H. Stoudt of Palm, died yesterday afternoon in the Quakertown hospital. She was aged 25 years, 8 months and 13 days. She was born at Hereford, a daughter of Eugene and Mary, nee Kemp, Bauer. Surviving Mrs. Stoudt are her husband, a daughter, Mary Ann, at home; her parents and a sister and brother, Reta and Raymond Bauer, all of Hereford. For nine years she had been employed at the Acorn Glove factory in Palm. Mrs. Stoudt was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic church at East Greenville. The funeral will be held from her late residence in Palm at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Requiem high mass will be sung in St. Philip Neri church at East Greenville at 9:30 a.m. with the rector, the Rev. Father Leo J. Letterhouse, officiating. Interment will be in the Bally Catholic cemetery.

Stoudt, Mary Jane

A graveside service was held for Mary Jane (Steffy) Stoudt, 73, of East Philadelphia Avenue, Gilbertsville, who died November 13 in her home. She was the widow of Leroy B. Stoudt. Born in Pottstown, she graduated from Pottsgrove High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Barto. Surviving are three daughters, Arlene Miller of Gilbertsville, May Luccarelli Cooper of Perkiomenville and Gail Hart of Gilbertsville; one stepdaughter, Rita Care of Birdsboro; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in Christ Union Cemetery in Barto. The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.

Stoudt, Michael C.

Services were held for Michael C. Stoudt, 53, of Gilbertsville, who died July 2 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Spring City. During the Vietnam War, Stoudt served in the Navy. Stoudt worked as a security guard. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Norristown. The Boyd-Horrox Funeral Home, Norristown, handled the arrangements.

Stoudt, Stella I.

Mrs. Stella I. Stoudt of 52 E. Washington St., Topton, died yesterday at her home. She was 79.

Mrs. Stoudt was the wife of Calvin H. Stoudt, Sr. Born in Coplay, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Harriet (Merkel) Clewell.

Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Calvin H. Jr., with whom she resided; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Earl A. Trexler Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton. Viewing will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Stoudt, Sterling S.

Sterling S. Stoudt, 79, Reading, died June 2 at 7:45 a.m. in Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Reading, where he had been a resident since March. He was the husband of Doris L. (Huseman) Stoudt. Born in Topton, he was a son of the late John and Kathryn (Williams) Stoudt. Stoudt had been employed for many years by Metropolitan Edison Co., Muhlenberg Township, retiring as a control room operator. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Reading. Stoudt was a graduate of Mount Penn High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Stoudt is also survived by two sons, Michael T. and Patrick L., both of Reading; and two daughters, Joanne M. (Stoudt) Taylor, Reading, and Aneta L. (Stoudt) Wunder, Shillington. There are also three grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Stout, Brian Lee

Funeral services were held for Brian Lee Stout, 49, of Beacon Street, Birdsboro, who died August 4 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born in West Reading, he worked as a security guard for Garden State Tanning in Reading for four years, until May 1999. Stout was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Reading. He was a member of Birdsboro and Grill fire companies. Surviving are a son, Jason Stewart Stout of Reading; two daughters, Kimberly Anne Stout and Jessica Marie Stout, both of Reading; two half brothers, Conrad S. Stout of Mt. Penn and Stanley C. Stout of Glenside; a sister, Joanne L. Stout, with whom he lived; and one grandchild. Stout, Oliver P.

Oliver P. Stout died at 12.40 o�clock yesterday afternoon at his home, 608 Park street, from a complication of ailments. He was aged 47 years. He is survived by his widow, Minnie, nee Werley, two sons, Paul and Arthur, of this city; a daughter, Agnes, of this city; a brother, Calvin, of Bethlehem; two sisters, Mrs. Harlan Yeager, of Hellertown, and Mrs. Charles Diehl, of Bingen, and a grandchild. He was a member of the Jr. OUAM. Private funeral services at his late home Wednesday afternoon at 1.30 o�clock will be followed by public services in St. Luke�s Lutheran church, North Seventh street, at 2 o�clock, Revs. W. W. Kistler and William L. Katz officiating. Interment will be made in the Longswamp cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday night from 7 to 9 o�clock.

Stover, Ethel M.

Ethel M. Stover, 84, Flying Hills, died Aug. 28 at 5:45 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient 12 days. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Luke S. and Florence M. (Bricker) Stover. Stover was employed by the Wernersville Bank and was employed as a statistician by the Atlantic Refining Co., West Reading. She was last employed for more than 30 years as a sales woman by Reading-Berks AAA, retiring in 1993. She was the top sales woman and recipient of the President's Award of the Reading-Berks AAA. Stover was a member of the First Reformed Church, Wernersville. She was a life member of the Green Valley Country Club, Lower Heidelberg Township. Stover was a 1938 graduate of Wernersville High School and McCann's Business School, Reading. Surviving are two nieces. Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville. Burial will be in Heidelberg Cemetery, Heidelberg Township.

Among the local survivors of Harold Stoyer, 81, of Gibraltar, who died June 2 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since May 29, is a stepson, Glenn J. Strunk, Bernville.

Stoyer, Harold

Services were held for Harold A. "Pop" Stoyer, 81, of Albert Street, Gibraltar, who died June 2 in the Reading Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth M. (Woomert) Stoyer, in 1995. Stoyer was fire chief of the Gibraltar Fire Company from 1964 to 1977. He was employed for 50 years as a sign painter by Roy Klein Signs, Reading, retiring in 1986. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Stoyer was a member of the Pennsylvania Wheelmans Association, where he was known as Speed Stoyer. Surviving are two sons, Walter L. Stoyer, Gibraltar, and Jack L. Strunk, Fritztown; a step-daughter, Barbara A. (Strunk) Whalen, Gibraltar; and one stepson, Glenn J. Strunk, Bernville. Other survivors include two brothers; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Burial was in Spies (Zion) Cemetery, Alsace Township. The Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Shillington, handled the arrangements.

Strain, Elizabeth P.

The service and burial was private for Elizabeth P. Strain, 85, formerly of Beverly Hills, Fla., who died February 26 in the Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where she had resided since 2001. Her husband, Louis N. Strain, died in 1994. She was born in Pittsburgh. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela (Strain) Carruthers, Exeter Township; and a son, Thomas L., Eatontown, N.J. Other survivors include a sister and a grandchild. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reiffton, was in charge of the arrangements.

Stranix, Ronald C.

A funeral Mass was celebrated for Ronald C. Stranix, 65, husband of Joan Stranix, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Douglassville, who died March 9 in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. Born in Philadelphia, he retired in 2000 from Calbar Inc. in Philadelphia and moved to Delaware. He served in the Navy and in the Army's 101st Airborne Division. Stranix was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard, Del. He was a former member of the Spring-Ford Country Club in Royersford. Also, he was a member of the Shawnee Country Club of Milford, Del., and the color guard of American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard, Del. Also a former board member of the ICRI Association. Surviving in addition to his wife of 14 years are two sons, Michael Stranix of New Jersey and Ronald Stranix Jr. of Pennsylvania; a stepson, Joe Kroliski of Ohio. Also two brothers and six grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Home of Brave Foundation, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963. The arrangements were handled by the Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck, Del.

Strasser, Israel K.

Israel K. Strasser, of Fleetwood, died last Thursday at the home of his daughter at Fleetwood, aged eighty years. He left one son and four daughters: Dr. Thos. Strasser, of Reading; Mrs. Sallie Messersmith and Mrs. Nathan Schaeffer, of Fleetwood; Mrs. Josiah Koch, of Reading, and Mrs. Levi S. Mabry, of Mertztown. One sister, Mrs. Abbie Butz, of Allentown, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Daniel Kutz and Mrs. Harry Scheidt, of Kutztown, also survive. Deceased was a saddler by trade and durin gthe war worked for the Government at Washington. His funeral was held Monday forenoon, Rev. Dr. S. L. Harkey officiating. Dr. Robert E. Strasser, of town, is a grandson of deceased.

Joseph Strauss, son of John and Catharine (Zerbe) Strauss, was born March 11, 1830, in Tulpehocken township; baptized April 11, 1830; confirmed in Zion's, Strausstown. He was married by Rev. J. M. Ditzler on November 12, 1853, to Kitty Ann Himmelberger, which union was blessed with two sons and two daughters. He died April 3, 1905, aged 75y22d, survived by his widow and four children.

Mrs Alberta (Hafer) Strausser died at the home of her father, William C. Hafer, 128 Raymond street, Hyde Park, aged 39 years. She was a member of Grace (Alsace) Reformed Church. Surviving besides her father are a son, Melvin, at home, two brothers, Lester W. of Mohrsville, and Victor W., at home, and two sisters, Consula, at home, and Ardella, wife of John Vogel, this city. Funeral Saturday at 2 p.m. from the home. Further services in Grace (Alsace) Church with the Rev. J.M. Mengel officiating. Interment in Belleman's Cemetery, with the Lamm Funeral Home, Wernersville, in charge.

Services were held in the Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Irene M. Strausser, 81, who died Feb. 4 in her Old Route 22, Windsor Township residence. Burial was in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer S. Strausser, who died March 25, 1993. Born in Windsor Township, she was a daughter of the late Daniel O. and Eva A. (Rausch) Mengel. She was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ, Perry Township. Surviving is a son, Ronald E. Funeral services were held for George J. Stremba, 55, who died in his residence on Mill Road, Caernarvon Township. He was the husband of Eileen (Chisholm) Stremba. Stremba and his wife were the owners and operators of Mill Road Antiques. Born in Reading, he was a son of Mary C. (Bonanno) Stremba, Birdsboro and the late William R. Stremba. Stremba was employed by Burkey Construction Co., Reading, and was a self-employed construction manager; he was a construction manager for Penske Corp., Reading, and was a self-employed construction manager. He was a 1966 graduate of Twin Valley High School. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two brothers, Lee, New York City, and Joseph, Birdsboro. Burial was in Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery. The Labs Funeral Home Inc., Honey Brook, handled the arrangements.

Stricker, Charles A.

Charles A. Stricker, 56, of 206 S. Morwood Ave., West Wyomissing, Berks County, died Monday in ManorCare, Sinking Spring, after a lengthy illness. He lived at ManorCare since Jan. 12, 2000. Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Charles and Ellen Costas Stricker. He was a 1966 graduate of Pottsville High School and a 1968 graduate of the former Industrial Management Institute, Reading. He was a draftsman for 25 years at Carpenter Steel, where he last worked in June 1998. He was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. Surviving is his wife, the former Sharyn J. Krzyzanowski; a son, David C., Reading; two daughters, Amy M. Schneider, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Karin E., Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Mary Ellen Mancini, Port Carbon. Memorial services will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday from Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Interment will be private.

Strickler, Esther M.

Services were held in the Hill Funeral Home, Rehrersburg, for Esther M. Strickler, 95, Lebanon, who died Feb. 16 in Spang Crest Manor, Lebanon County, where she had resided one month. Burial was in Altalaha Church Cemetery, Rehrersburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren A. Strickler, who died Jan. 13, 1987. Born in Bethel Township, she was a daughter of the late Lewis E. and Mary E. (Neiswender) Henninger. She was a graduate of Bethel High School and Kutztown Normal School. Strickler was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Bethel Township for three years. She was the first president of the Blue Mountain 50 Plus Club, Bethel, and was a charter member of the Farm Women's Group of Berks County and the Community Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Frystown. Strickler was a member of Altalaha Lutheran Church, Rehrersburg. Surviving are a son, Warren J. Strickler, New Oxford, Adams County; a daughter, Doris J. (Strickler) Dengler, Lebanon; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Strohl, Mary

STROHL, Mrs. Mary, widow of Robert N. Strohl, was born in Hull, Mass., Sept. 6, 1891, and died in Reading, Pa., on December 7, 1944, at the age of 53 years, 4 months, and 1 day. For some years she was an invalid and therefore was confined to her bed for a long time. She is survived by one son, Robert, three daughters, Mrs. Vesta Frees, Roma Strohl and Shirley Strohl; two brothers and two sisters. Stroop, Marion

Services were held for Marion (Hodge) Stroop, 82, of Douglassville, formerly of Limerick, who died August 8 in her home. She was the widow of Howard H. Stroop. She was born in Philadelphia and for 27 years she worked as a machinist at Superior Tube Co. in Collegeville, retiring in 1974. A member of the Pottstown Church of the Nazarene, she was active in church activities and frequently worked in the church's soup kitchen. Stroop is survived by two sons, Donald G. Stroop and Dennis W. Stroop, both of Pottstown; four daughters, Barbara J. Haberle of Boyertown, Edwinna C. Gass, with whom Mrs. Stroop lived, Carol L. Tokarski of Limerick and Mildred A. Cichocki of Boyertown. Also three brothers; one sister; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Pottstown Church of the Nazarene, Beech and Morris Streets, Pottstown, PA 19464. Burial was in Limerick Garden of Memories. He was the husband of Mildred Y. (Yeich) Strouse. Born in Reading, Strouse was employed for 24 years as a car repairman by the Reading Co., retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Oak Parkway Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, Exeter Township. Strouse is also survived by a son, Frederick I., Centre Township; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Strunk, Catherine E.

A memorial service will be held for Catherine E. (Henry) Strunk, 86, widow of George Strunk of Spruce Street, Pottstown, who died July 23 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Birdsboro, she was a 1935 graduate of Birdsboro High School. Strunk was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Pottstown. She was a charter member of the Birdsboro Women's Club. Surviving are a son, David Strunk of Pottstown; a daughter, Betty Stark of Barto. Also two sisters, Jane Leininger and Helen Romig, both of Birdsboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 660 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 30 at 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Edward R. Strunk, Daniel H.

Suffering a heart attack on Sunday night, Daniel H. Strunk, a well known and esteemed resident of Hereford, where for many years he was engaged in the butchering business, died there at his home early yesterday morning. He was aged 66 years, 8 months and 20 days. Besides his widow, Ida, nee Miller, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Pierson, Reading, and Mrs. Paul Mohr, Emaus; five sons, Howard, Topton; Ammon, Dewey and Harold, Hereford, and Herbert, Reading, and two sisters, Mrs. John Frederick, Reading, and Mrs. Albert Yost, Philadelphia. He was a faithful member of the Old Zionsville Lutheran church, and for many years had taken an active and prominent part in the affairs of the congregation. The funeral will be held from his late residence at Hereford on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Brief services will be held at the house, followed by further services in the Old Zionsville Lutheran church. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Strunk, Herbert F.

Herbert F. Strunk, former resident of Emmaus, died unexpectedly yesterday at his home at 128 W. Douglass St., Reading. He was 67. Born in Hereford Township, a son of the late Daniel H. and Ira A. (Miller) Strunk, he was a realtor until his retirement in 1953. He was council president and chief usher of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Reading, for 50 years, and a member of the Reading Real Estate Board and the National Assn. Of Retired and Veteran Railway Employes. Surviving with his wife, Mrs. Emma W. (Moyer) Strunk, are a daughter, Ellen H. Kleinspehn, Reading; a son, the Rev. Luther J. Lawver, Roxborough; three grandchildren; two sisters, Helen S., wife of Paul Mohr, Pennsburg, and Gertrude M., wife of William Piersol, Fleetwood, and three brothers, Amon D. and O. Dewey, Hereford, and Harold C., Palm. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the T. C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading.

Strunk, Hettie L. (nee Gery)

Mrs. Hettie L. (Gery) Strunk, wife of John D. Strunk, died Wednesday at her home in Huffs Church, Barto R. 1, after an illness of a year. She was 70. She was a daughter of the late Milton W. and Mary Ann (Ziegler) Gery and was a member of Huffs Evangelical and Reformed Church and its Ladies Aid Society. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Eva M., wife of Paul H. Moser, Boyertown; Jennie, wife of Pierrie Krause, Green Lane; and Arlene C., wife of Clarence Nicholas, Huffs Church; a son, Aaron L. Strunk, Emmaus; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Huffs E-R Church.

Born in Macungie, Lehigh County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert S. and Eva L. (Lamp) Miller. Until retiring in 1981, she was employed as a housekeeper in the Allentown area for many years. She was previously employed as a sewing machine operator by Johmar Manufacturing Co., Alburtis and by Allison Co., Allentown and the Kutztown Shirt Factory. Strunk was a member of Longswamp UCC. Surviving are Leroy C. Bauman, with whom she resided; two daughters, Barbara A. (Strunk) Eck, Mertztown, and Bernice R. (Strunk) Bauer, Alburtis; and two sons, Willard R. Strunk, Mertztown, and Harold C.J. Strunk, Macungie. There are also 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Kenneth N. Miller, Slatington, Lehigh County, and Harvey W. Miller, Mertztown; and three sisters: Lorraine (Miller) Moyer, Bethel; Shirley (Miller) Kutz, Wyomissing; and Lurea (Miller) Reichard, Mertztown. The Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, was in charge of arrangements.

Strunk, Peter J.

Peter J. Strunk, a Tulpehocken Township official, died of natural causes June 27 at 7:20 p.m. in his residence in Tulpehocken Township. Strunk, 57, was the husband of Kathleen A. (Galczynski) Strunk. He was vice chairman of the Tulpehocken Township Zoning-Hearing Board. Born in West Reading, he was a son of Peter J.R. Strunk, Birdsboro, and the late Mary (Wesner) Strunk. Strunk was employed for 30 years by American Bank, retiring as vice president for Meridian Bank Corp. He was a 1966 graduate of Fleetwood High School and a 1973 graduate of the Central Atlantic School of Banking at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Union County. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Strunk received the Bronze Star. He is also survived by a daughter, Rachel K. Strunk, at home. Other survivors include a brother, Mickey, Mohrsville; and two sisters, Patricia (Strunk) Foose, Bethel, and Judy (Strunk) Shaeffer, Coral Springs, Fla. Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hetrick Funeral Home, Womelsdorf. Burial will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County.

Stuart, Merle M.

A memorial service and private burial was held for Merle M. (Dierolf) Stuart, 98, in Beverly, MA, who died April 3. She was the widow of Streeter Stuart, who was a Boston WBZ radio and television newsman. Born in Reading, she spent most of her early years in Bechtelsville and Boyertown. She was employed for several years at the former Bally Ribbon Mills. Stuart attended Anderson University in Indiana. She was a leader in women's activities and church projects, she taught classes and coordinated inter-faith prayer meetings in the Boston Area. In 1979, she and her husband, assisted by their daughter, opened the Belmont Nutrition Center. She was also the founder of the Boston Orthomolecular Society. Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Dr. Streeter S. Stuart, Jr. of Lansdale; and the Rev. Dr. Douglas Stuart of Boston, MA and a daughter, Tuyla M. Stuart of Danvers, MA. Also, a sister, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. The memorial service was held at First Church, Congregational of Boxford, MA.

Mary A. Stuber, 84, formerly of Cumru Township, died Aug. 29 in the Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village, Myerstown. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Martha (Evans) Wollyung. Stuber was a member of Christ (Yocum's) Lutheran Church, Grill. Surviving is a daughter, Wileen Reber, Temple. Other survivors include two grandchildren, a stepgrandchild and a great-grandson. Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Stufflet, John W.

John W. Stufflet, 40 Franklin St., Alburtis, died at 4:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the Allentown hospital, where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He was aged 61 years, 1 month and 20 days. Mr. Stufflet had been in ailing health for the past year and was confined to his home for six months prior to entering the hospital. In his younger days he was employed at the blast furnace at Alburtis and later he worked at the Macungie foundry. He was a member of the Lutheran wing of the Mertztown church and was affiliated with the Alburtis club. He was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, a son of John and Ellen, nee Eck, Stufflet. Surviving Mr. Stufflet are his wife, Ida, nee Miller, Stufflet, and the following children: George A., Alburtis; LeRoy, stationed at Fredericksburg, Va., with the U.S. Army; John, at home; Mrs. John Stufflet, Fogelsville; Mrs. Russell Wetzel, Allentown; Mrs. Peter Bauman, and Mrs. Roland Meitzler, both of Alburtis. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, George Stufflet, Bowers; and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Barto, Topton; Mrs. William Reifinger and Mrs. Emma Kemp, both of Ringtown. The funeral will be held at 1:30 o’clock Sunday at his late home, with continued services in the Mertztown church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. William Dry will officiate.

Services were private for Maude O. Stufflet, 104, formerly of South 18-1/2 Street, who died May 6 in Beverly Manor, Exeter Township, where she had resided since 1987. She was the wife of Harry S. Stufflet, who died in 1962. Stufflet was born in Exeter Township. She was a member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, Jacksonwald. Stufflet is survived by a son, Edwin A. Stufflet, Mount Penn. Stufflet was previously employed as a bottler by Premium Beverage Packing, Wyomissing, retiring in 1995. Also surviving are two sons, Michael D., Macungie, Lehigh County, and Mark A., Reading. Services were held in the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, for Stanley J. Stulpin, of Valley Road, Longswamp Township, who died Feb. 27 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he had been a patient one week. Inurnment was in Huff's Church Union Cemetery, Hereford Township. He was the husband of Clarice M. (Burley) Stulpin. Born in Barto, he was a son of the late Konstantin and Mary (Buderick) Stulpin. Until retiring in 1990 as a sheet-metal foreman and mechanic, he was employed by Warren Ehret Link Co., Allentown, for 42 years. He was previously employed by General Oil Burner Co., Allentown and Caloric Corp., Topton. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown. Stulpin was an Army veteran. Also surviving are a son, Scott J. Stulpin, Allentown, and a granddaughter. Other survivors include two sisters, Helen (Stulpin) Grill and Mary (Stulpin) Kern, both of Bally.

Ray E. Stumhofer, 71, of West Brunswick Township, died Tuesday at Pottsville Hospital, where he had been admitted Monday night. Born in Oley Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Edward H. and Annie E. Auman Stumhofer. He was employed for 27 years in the hot mill by Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Oley, and Pike Township Sportsmen's Association. Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy C. Kolbe; a son, Jason A., RD1 Orwigsburg; two sisters, Arlene Youse, Boyertown, and Ruth Harpel, Perkiomenville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Daniel R. Christ Funeral Home, Oley. Interment will be in Kimmel's Church Cemetery, Orwigsburg.

Catherine Stump, widow of John K. Stump, of 111 Noble street, Kutztown, died yesterday at the home of her son, Calvin S. Stump, Maxatawny, while on a visit. Mrs. Stump was taken ill a week ago at her son's home while paying a call. She was 75 years of age and her death was due to ills due to her advanced years. She is survived by five children: Calvin S. Stump, of Maxatawny; Rev. Alfred M. Stump of New Castle; Jacob H. Stump, Hummelstown; Clara M., wife of Charles Fritz, and James W. Stump, of Fleetwood; two brothers, Alfred Leibensperger, of Stony Run, and Franklin D. Leibensperger, of Kutztown R.D. No. 1. Fourteen grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held from the home of her son at Maxatawny on Thursday at 1.30 p.m. Services in Maxatawny Zion church at 2 p.m. Rev. W. S. Dry, Lutheran pastor, will officiate. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.

John A. Stump, 89, a resident at ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, formerly of Fleetwood, died May 7 at 1:56 a.m. in Reading Hospital. His wife, Pearl A. (Link) Stump, died April 22, 1992. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Edwin and Annie (Haines) Stump. Stump had been employed for 34 years in maintenance by Dana Corp., Reading, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood. Stump was a 1934 graduate of Oley Valley High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Stump was a life member of the Oley Fire Company, the Fleetwood Orioles and American Legion. He was a former board member of Friedens Cemetery Co. Stump is survived by two sons, Oscar A., Oley, and Gerald H., West Lawn. Other survivors include a sister, Mildred (Stump) Neff, Lansdale, Montgomery County; and two brothers, Walter, Oklahoma City, and Harrison, Robesonia. June K. (Matz) Stump, 87, Hamburg, died June 9 at 11:40 a.m. in the Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where she had resided five days. She was taken to the Laurel Center from Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since May 3. Her husband, Nevin W. Stump, died Dec. 26, 1992. Born in Sinking Spring, she was a daughter of the late Irwin Matz and Madeline (Lutz) Matz Knauss. Stump was employed for more than 20 years as a laborer by the Windsor Knitting Mills, Hamburg, retiring in 1980. She was a Women's Army Corps veteran of World War II. Stump was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. Surviving are two sons, Frederick J., Tilden Township, and David A., Hamburg. Other survivors include a brother, Earl Matz, and a sister, Ann (Matz) Kirchdoerfer, both of Gainesville, Fla. There are also two granddaughters. Lester P. Stump, 86, of Center Valley, formerly of Pine Grove, died Thursday evening in the Phoebe Berks Health Center, Wernersville. Born in Pine Grove Township, Jan. 5, 1914, he was a son of the late Albert S. and Ella A. Kantner Stump. He was a 1931 graduate of Pine Grove High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having attended the aviation machinist mate school, Memphis, Tenn., and the Aerial Gunnery School. He was employed as a supervisor with PP&L. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Center Valley, Masonic Lodge 409 F&AM, Pine Grove, Pine Grove VFW, Pine Grove American Legion, Scottish Rite of Harrisburg, and Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bessie Miller Stump, in 1992; a brother, Edwin Stump. Surviving are a son, Walter A. "Skip" Stump, Sinking Spring; three grandsons. Wayne W. Stump, 69, Kutztown, died of natural causes June 28 in St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Yvonne M. (Oldt) Stump. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William and Verna (George) Stump. Stump was employed for 40 years as a foreman by the East Penn Manufacturing Inc., Lyons. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Stump is also survived by three daughters: Courtney L. Stump, at home; Tonia R. Stump, Kempton; and Heather A. (Stump) Reigel, Kutztown. Other survivors include two brothers, Steward, Kutztown, and Sterling, Hamburg. Other survivors include two grandchildren. Styer, Adam

Adam Styer, a former resident of Morgantown, died at the residence of his son-in-law, John Keely, Phila., of general debility, aged about 75 years. In his younger days he was one of the leading farmers near Morgantown, but retired many years ago. Several years ago, his wife died and since that time he had made his home with Mr. Keely. He leaves these children: Charles and Evans Styer, Laura, wife of Rev. Luther, and Mrs. John Keely. He was a member of the Morgantown Methodist Church.

Styer, Barry E.

Barry E. Styer, 68, of 161 Sage Drive, Sinking Spring, died Sunday evening at Reading Hospital, where he was a patient since Sept. 3. Styer was a line repairman for Dana Corp., Reading, for 30 years. He retired in 1981. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War and was a life member of Adamstown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8795. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Adamstown. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Alfred E. and Edna M. Hyle Styer. He was married to Kathryn Hahn Styer. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Brenda L. Blimline of Reading; two sons, David L. of Fleetwood and Steven L. of Bernville; two stepdaughters, Carla L. Kinser of Sinking Spring and Pearl M. Wanner of Reinholds; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Caroline E. Styer, 92, of 3000 Windmill Road, Sinking Spring, formerly of Valley View Road, Narvon, died of natural causes Sunday at ManorCare. A homemaker, she was a member of Allegheny Lutheran Church. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Lydiann Huyett Cooper. Her husband, Clarence A. Styer, died in 1968. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Styer; five brothers; Samuel, Charles, George, Norman and John Cooper; and three sisters, Mary Sensenig, Katie Schweitzer and Lydia Frankhouser.

Mrs. Harriet Styer, aged 77 years, wife of Peter Styer, and who is well known in this city, died of a complication of diseases, at 11 o'clock Wednesday evening, at her home, near Churchtown, Lancaster county. Undertaker C.I. Miller, this city was notified and took charge of the remains. She was a member of the Plow Lutheran Church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Styer is survived by one brother, James Foreman of Coatesville. Deceased had many friends in Reading and was a frequent visitor here.

Styer, Irene

Services were held for Irene R. (Mitchell) Styer, 59, of Robeson, who died February 19 in her home. She was the wife of Bill J. Styer. Born in Lebanon, she was a 1961 graduate of Twin Valley High School and from the former West Chester State Teachers College in 1965. She was an elementary school teacher in the Twin Valley School District for 34 years before retiring in 1999. Surviving is a daughter, Angela Mitchell of Morgantown; two sisters, Lillian Bowman of Lebanon and Patricia Modica of North Haledon, N.J.; and three brothers, David W. Anspach of Morgantown; Richard Anspach of Fredericksburg, Va., and Robert Anspach of Conestoga. Contributions may be made to the California E.C. Services were held for Joseph R. Styer, 94, of Font, Chester County, widower of I. Elizabeth (Deery) Styer, who died November 26 in the Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook. Born in Delaware County, he was a resident of Font and a farmer for most of his life. Styer retired from the Downingtown Manufacturing Co. and the Beloit Eastern Co. after 30 years. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church in Uwchlan for more than 60 years. Styer is survived by five sons, Joseph W. Styer and Paul E. Styer, both of Bedford, Bedford County, Harvey L. Styer of Eagle, and Ronald A. Styer and Gerald A. Styer, both of East Nantmeal. Also one brother, 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Margaret C. Styer, 59, of 459 Yellow Hill Road, Narvon, died Sunday morning at Ephrata Community Hospital after a long illness. A homemaker, Mrs. Styer enjoyed her grandchildren and watching NASCAR. Born in Brecknock Township, Berks County, she was the daughter of the late Norman J. and Elsie A. Nowotarski Neatock. She was married 37 years on Feb. 15 to Charles R. Styer Jr. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Michael C., married to Judy R. High Styer of Denver; a daughter, Donna J., married to Reggie L. Keller of Denver; four grandchildren; a sister, Jean N., married to Bill Okonski of Mohnton; and a brother, Carl N., married to Diana Davis Neatock of Mohnton.

Norman Styer, 86, Active Scout Leader. Norman W. Styer Sr., 86, of Elverson R3, died Thursday afternoon at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been a patient for one week. He and his wife, Myrtle C. Care Styer, would have marked their 61st anniversary on March 16. Born in Brecknock Township, he was a son of the late Adam and Lillie Weaver Styer. He worked in the maintenance department of the former Bethlehem Steel in Pottstown, retiring in 1972. Styer was active in Scouting, organizing the Morgantown Boy Scout Troop in 1950. He was a Scoutmaster for three national Boy Scout jamborees. He attended California Evangelical Congregational Church, Morgantown. He was president of the Styer Cemetery Association and treasurer of the Styer Family Reunion. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Ret. U.S. Army Col. Norman W. Jr., husband of Kay Kirkner of Leesburg, Va., and Bill J., at home; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles R. of Narvon, Horace W. of Tucson, Ariz., and Harold G. of East Earl.

Styer, Peter

Churchtown, Aug. 10 (special)--Peter Styer, aged 89 years, died from general debility at the home of his son, Bently Styer, near this place, at 1 a.m. today. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Styer was twice married, his first wife having been Elvina (nee Swisher) and his second wife was Harriet (nee Foreman). Both are deceased. He was the last of his family.

These children survive: Willis, near Churchtown; Rev. George, Gordon, Schuylkill county; John, Smoketown; Bently, near Churchtown; Charles, near California Church; James, Honeybrook; Mrs. Helen Moore, New Holland, and Mrs. Clara Miller, Reading.

Funeral, Monday, Aug. 14, with interment at Plow Church. Rev. W.G. Welder will officiate. Undertaker Joseph Weaver has charge.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Norman W. Sr. and Myrtle C. Care Styer. He was married to the late Irene R. Anspach Styer, who died on Feb. 19. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Angela Mitchell of Morgantown; and a brother, Norman W. Jr., married to Kay Kirkner Styer of Leesburg, Va.

William J. Styer, 60, Timet worker. William J. Styer, 60, of 1930 Red Hill Road, Elverson, died Saturday at Reading Hospital after undergoing surgery earlier in the week. He worked for the former Bethlehem Steel Grace Mines from 1960 to 1978, and later for the former Conestoga Carriers in Morgantown as a truck mechanic and state inspector until 1996. He then worked at the Timet Plant in Morgantown as a material processor and handler from 1997 until his death. In 1960, Styer, who was known as "Bill," graduated from Twin Valley High School. He was treasurer of the John Adams Styer Cemetery Association and Reunion Committee. He enjoyed farming, hunting, auto racing and model railroading. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Norman W. Sr. and Myrtle C. Care Styer. He was married to the late Irene R. Anspach Styer, who died Feb. 19. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Angela Mitchell of Morgantown, and a brother, Norman W. Styer Jr., husband of Kay Kirkner Styer of Leesburg, Va.

Suchomelly, George A.

Services were held for George A. Suchomelly, 77, of Dewald Road, Exeter Township, who died January 18 in Reading Hospital, West Reading, where he had been a patient. He was the husband of Pauline M. (Bechtel) Suchomelly. Born in Exeter Township, he was employed for 36 years as a drill bench operator and in the maintenance department of Reading Industries, retiring in 1987. He was an Army veteran of WWII, where he was a member of the 83rd Airborne Division and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a life member of the Battle of the Bulge Association and a lecturer on World War II history in the Wilson School District. Suchomelly was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Gibraltar. He was a former superintendent of the Neversink Sunday School. He was a life member of the Reiffton Fire Company and Pike Township Sportsman's Association. He is also survived by a son, Scott A., Philadelphia, and a daughter, Kathy A. (Suchomelly) Umberger, Exeter Township. Other survivors include a brother, Frank Suchomelly, Exeter Township; one sister, Katherine (Suchomelly) Mellar, Reading; and one grandson. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn, handled the arrangements.

Services will be Thursday for Walter E. Summerfelt, 76, East Schuylkill Road, North Coventry, who died June 22 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the widower of Pearl (Engle) Summerfelt. Born in Greshville, he worked as a set-up man for the former Stanley G. Flagg Co., Stowe. Summerfelt served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Pottstown. Surviving is a son, Richard E. Summerfelt of Shillington; two daughters, Judith A. Dotterer of Fleetwood, and Deborah E. Sminkey of Gilbertsville. Also a sister, eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers. Esther M. (Graber), 32, wife of Titus Summers, of Lancaster R.D. 2, formerly of this city, died in the Osteopathic hospital, Lancaster. She was a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., a daughter of Amenno and Leah (Yoder) Graber. She was a member of Grace Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church, this city. Surviving are her parents, husband, daughter, Ruth; two sisters and two brothers, Ruth, wife of James Evans, of fort Wayne, Ind.; Dorcus, wife of Paul Strock, of Loogotee, Ind.; Milo Graber and Roy Graber both of Fort Wayne, Ind. Titus M. Summers, 41, of 907 John St., Montrose Manor, died this morning at his residence. He was a crane operator for Brayman Construction Co. of Pittsburgh. He was born in Lancaster County the son of Jacob and Florence (Martin) Summers and lived in the Spring Township area for 15 years. Surviving are his parents, in Arizona; his widow, the former Fern M. Adams; two daughters; Ruth E. and Barbara A., both at home; six brothers: John, Quarryville; Paul, New Providence; Calvin, Lancaster; Luke, Maitland, Fla.; Mark, Riviera Beach, Fla. and Mervin, Florida. He was a member of St. Paul's Memorial United Church of Christ, Reading, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Services will be held from the Gosnell Funeral Home, Shillington, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul H. Byer officiating. Burial will be in the Charles Evans Cemetery.

Sutch, Elmer H.

Crash Victim Dies. Pottstown, June 29 (Special). Elmer H. Sutch, 206 Morris street, Phoenixville, who was injured in an automobile accident early Sunday morning at Third and Hanover streets when the automobile of Samuel B. Walters, of Phoenixville, R.D. 3, crashed into the house of Miss Hannah Dyer, died in the Pottstown Hospital yesterday morning from the injuries he received. Walters, who was held in $1,000 bail after the accident to await the result of the injuries to Sutch, will be required to appear at an inquest to be held by Coroner George Huff, of Montgomery county, at 7 o'clock Thursday evening at City Hall. With Walters and Sutch in the car was Luther Bradford, 209 Morris street, Phoenixville. They escaped uninjured. Besides his widow the deceased is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wilton P. Bradford, and a son, F. Ray Sutch, both of Phoenixville. There is one grandchild, Claudie Ann, of Phoenixville. Two brothers, Samuel J. of Boston, and Charles, of Phoenixville, also survive. Funeral services will be held at his home in Phoenixville Saturday afternoon and interment will be made in Morris Cemetery.

Private services and burial were held for Richard P. Swanger, 60, of Layfield Road, Perkiomenville, who died May 1 in Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was the husband of Patsy H. (Rotz) Swanger. Born in Chambersburg, to Dorothy M. (Gruver) Swanger of Roxbury, Franklin County, and the late Gerald R. Swanger. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Chuck Swanger of Saylorsburg, Monroe County. Also a sister and a brother. He was predeceased by a daughter. Swann, Joseph O.

Swartz, Warren E.

While Warren E. Swartz, of Hancock, and Samuel Wadsworth, of Phoenixville, were being lowered into the ore mine operated by the Allentown Iron Company, at Hancock, about four o�clock yesterday afternoon, the cage in which they were riding was suddenly struck by a truck coming along one of the levels in the mine about one hundred feet below the surface, and the two men were killed instantly. Mr. Swartz is a son-in-law of Prof. and Mrs. Harrison E. Ruhe, of this city. The men were going down to the bottom of the mine, a distance of about one hundred and seventy-one feet, on a tour of inspection. Swartz was the superintendent of the mine, while Wadsworth was a miner in his employ. It was just a few minutes before four o�clock when the cage was started for the bottom. When they reached a distance of about one hundred feet from the top of the mine, a truck came along on its way back to a certain point on that level, after having dumped its material on the far side of the level. The men who regulated the movement of the truck evidently did not know of the presence of the cage in the mine shaft at that particular time, and the collision occurred. The cage, containing the two men, and the truck, plunged down the shaft to the bottom, the remaining distance being almost seventy-five feet. The men were in a mangled condition when found. Mr. Swartz is the only son of Anna, nee Breinig, Swartz, and the late George W. Swartz, of Hancock. He was born on September 25, 1886, which brought his age to twenty-nine years, four months and six days. In his earlier days he was a student at the Bethlehem Preparatory School and the Pierce Business College, from which institutions he was graduated. He also attended the sessions at Lafayette College for a while. Following his school days, he became connected with the Topton bank, as a director, and later served as its efficient teller, following in the latter position until 1908, when his father died. Immediately upon his father�s death he resigned his position with the bank and took up the superintendency of the ore mine, which had been in the possession of his father. He continued in that position ever since. Mr. Swartz had former a partnership in the mine recently with Harry Hartzell, of Eighth and Walnut streets, this city, and the trip of inspection yesterday was made to determine an inventory of the mine. Mr. Hartzel�s father was one of the founders of the mine. During April, 1908, Mr. Swartz was married to Edna Ruhe, daughter of Prof. and Mrs. Harrison E. Ruhe, of No. 515 Chew street, this city, who survives him. Besides his wife, there survives his mother, Anna, nee Breinig, and one sister, Helen B. Swartz. His father preceded him in death eight years ago.

Swartz Jr., William H.

William H. Swartz Jr., 81, died May 25 at 12:50 p.m. in his Lower Heidelberg Township residence. He was the husband of Lila E. (Williams) Swartz. His first wife, Jean (Handling) Swartz, died in 1968. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William H. Sr. and Kathryn (Gilbert) Swartz. Swartz had been employed for 19 years in sales by H.E. Fortna Brothers, Reading. He was previously co-owner of and a mechanic at Swartz Brothers Garage, Lincoln Park. He was a 1937 graduate of Shillington High School. Swartz was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 50-year member of Reading Lodge 62, Free and Accepted Masons, West Reading. Swartz is also survived by three sons: Scott A., Morgantown; Steve W., Green Hills; and Randy B., Sinking Spring; a stepson, John D. McCann, Eagleville, Montgomery County; and two stepdaughters, Diana (McCann) Adams, Sinking Spring, and Darlene (McCann) Singleton, Mont Clare, Montgomery County. Other survivors include a brother, John H., Mohnton, and a sister, Jean (Swartz) Strause, Lititz, Lancaster County. There are also 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Swavely, Dorothy

Services were held for Dorothy O. (Gaugler) Swavely, 93, of Village Drive, Boyertown, who died February 13 in Manatawny Manor, North Coventry. She was the widow of Donald A. Swavely. Born in Fagleysville, she worked as a seamstress for Erntex Knitting Mills, Gilbertsville, retiring in 1975. Swavely was a member of New Hanover Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the New Hanover Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and the Gilbertsville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are two daughters, Eleanor S. LeVeille of Pottstown and Phyllis A. O'Boyle of Boyertown; one son, Ronald D. Swavely of Oley; eight grandchildren; and 19 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Norman S. Swavely. Swavely, Hiram W.

Hiram W. Swavely died Wednesday evening at Reading in his sixty-seventh year. He was stricken with paralysis last Tuesday and received the third stroke Wednesday, from which he never rallied. He was the son of Samuel and Amanda Swavely of Amityville, was a miller by trade and was in the hotel business for a number of years at Womelsdorf. In 1876, he moved to Reading and engaged in the coal business. He is survived by an only daughter, Mrs. Maurice E. Roeder, one granddaughter, and these brothers and sisters, Israel, of Pottstown, Isaac of Allentown; Miss Caroline Swavely and Mrs. Nathan Dierolf, of Reading. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and of the Masons.

Sweigert, Clay F.

Sweigert, Clay F., son of Frank and Eva (Eckenroth) Sweigert of Mohnton, was born, May 16, 1900, and died at the Reading Hospital, March 20, 1950, following an illness of a few days, at the age of 49 years, 10 months, and 4 days. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, Mohnton, and also was a member of the Brotherhood Bible Class of that church. Surviving are his parents, his widow, Edna T. (Kline) Sweigert, and son, Sherlach, at Mill Acres Farm, where he resided. There were also 12 brothers and sisters surviving. Funeral services were conducted from Kindt's Memorial Home, Shillington. Sweinhart, Jeremiah

Jeremiah Sweinhart, a much respected, citizen of Boyertown, died last Saturday morning, of kidney troubles. He was sick about three weeks. Deceased was 73 years old, and leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Charles A. Mory and Miss Clara Sweinhat. Mr. Sweinhart was born in Boyertown and lived here all his life with the exception of a few years, during which he lived in New Berlin, Snyder County, where he was in the carriage manufacturing business with his brother Josiah. It was here that he met his wife, a Miss Bilger. Thirty-five years ago he returned to Boyertown, and engaged in carriage building here with his brother Frederick, in the building now occupied by the Democrat. They separated later, and he continued the business in the factory further up the street. Twelve years ago he retired from business on account of failing health, and was succeeded by Strunk & Fisher.

Deceased was one of the founders of the Boyertown Water Company, and was one of the directors since its organization. He was also one of the first members of the Reformed church of Boyertown. He was the last of the family of three brothers and a sister.

The funeral will take place this morning. Services will be held at the house, and after interment, will be continued in the Reformed church. Rev. J. E. Freeman will officiate.

Sweinhart, Jeremiah

At a special meeting of the Boyertown Water Company held the 15th day of January, A. D. 1896, the following preamble and resolutions upon the death of Jeremiah Sweinhart were offered, read, and unanimously adopted as follows: -

WHEREAS it has pleased an all wise providence to remove from our midst our good friend and fellow director and president, Jeremiah Sweinhart, of Boyertown, who has agreeably presided continuously over the said Boyertown Water Company as president from June 3, 1889, therefore

RESOLVED that in the performance of this sad offer of respect for our deceased companion we desire to place on record our full appreciation of the valuable service rendered by him to the said water company and say that his excellent counsel and good judgment contributed largely in helping said company to attain its present position of prosperity and that in the demise of this director and president the company lost one of its most valuable officers and the community a respected citizen.

RESOLVED that we hereby extend our heartfelt sympathy to the widow in the sad hour of bereavement.

RESOLVED that the board of directors of said water company attend the funeral in a body and that a copy of these proceedings be presented to the surviving widow of the deceased, also entered on the minutes of the company and published in the Boyertown Democrat.

Sweitzer, Ethel S.

Ethel S. Sweitzer, 93, formerly of Reading, died Aug. 27 at 2:27 p.m. in Country Meadows of Wyomissing, where she had resided for 23 months. Born in Mohnton, she was a daughter of the late John S.V. and Eva M. (Youndt) Strunk. Sweitzer had been an elementary school teacher in the Reading School District for 27 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Temple, since 1927. Sweitzer, a 1929 Muhlenberg High School graduate, received her teaching certification from Kutztown University in 1931 and her bachelor's degree in education from Kutztown in 1935. She served as secretary of the Woman's Club of Reading from 1993 to 2002. Sweitzer is survived by two nieces and two nephews. Services and burial will be private. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Oscar L. Sweitzer, former produce stand owner, died Aug. 10 at 6:15 p.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township. Sweitzer, 93, Colony Park, was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. (Herzog) Sweitzer, on April 24, 1996. He was the owner of the Sweitzer Produce Stand for 38 years at the Buttonwood Street and Shillington farmers markets. Born in Spring Township, he was a son of the late Franklin K. and Sara K. (Trostle) Sweitzer. Sweitzer was last employed for 13 1/2 years as manager of Tulpehocken Dairy, Spring Township, retiring in 1981. He was a 1931 graduate of Wilson High School. Sweitzer was a member of Kissinger's Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, where he served on council for 50 years. Surviving is a daughter, Loretta A. (Sweitzer) Price, Cumru Township. Other survivors include a sister, Elsie (Sweitzer) Weber, Wyomissing. There are also two grandchildren. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Kissinger's Lutheran Church. Among the local survivors of Lisa M. (Moll) Swetz, 33, of Hazleton, who died of natural causes May 1 in Hazleton Health Care Alliance, is her father, Ronald Moll, and a brother, Scott Moll, both of Hamburg.

Sweyer, Maria H. (nee Hoch)

Maria H. Sweyer (nee Hoch), widow of the late Coroner Sweyer, died on Sunday morning of general debility, after an illness of twenty-four weeks, at her home, at Fleetwood, Berks county. Mrs. Sweyer was a daughter of the late Samuel O. Hoch and wife, Sarah (nee Herbein), and was born in Richmond township, Berks county, on January 15, 1826, bringing her age to 85 years, 9 months and 20 days. Deceased is survived by the following children: Samuel H. Peter, of Allentown; Dr. Charles H. Peter, of Sunbury; Sue, wife of Dr. J. K. Seaman, Reading, and Emily, wife of D. F. Kelchman, of Fleetwood; one step-daughter, Mollie, wife of John S. Schaeffer, of Fleetwood, and one step-brother, John Peter, of Topton. Two brothers also survive, Joel Hoch, of Fleetwood, and Samuel Hoch, of Blandon. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the residence of her step-daughter, Mrs. John S. Schaeffer, Main street. Services will be held in the United Evangelical church. Revs. A. E. Hangen, of Mohnton, and C. E. Hess, of Fleetwood, officiating. Burial will be made in Fleetwood cemetery.

Swinehart, John

Saturday night John Swinehart a farmer of Douglass Twp. near Niantic, died from pneumonia, following the grip. On Tuesday, the 3rd last, his wife died of the same disease. Both were buried together on Tuesday, 10th last at Sassamansville. Both were sixty years of age. There are nine children surviving, five daughters and four sons, all grown. Rev. Wm. B. Fox officiate.

Swisher, Nancy B.

Private services were arranged by the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, New Tripoli, Lehigh County, for Nancy B. Swisher, 63, Old Route 22, Lenhartsville, who died Nov. 1 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Albany Township, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Esther (Kunkel) Miller. Last working in 1990, she had been employed as an aide at the Hamburg Center for 22 years. Surviving are two sons, Toby S. Swisher, Blandon, and Cory S. Swisher, at home. Other survivors include two brothers, Marlin J. Miller and Larry D. Miller, both of Kempton, and three sisters: Jean (Miller) Follweiler, Kempton; Fern (Miller) Boltz, Hamburg; and Linda Miller, Kutztown.

Swofford, Winifred C.

Winifred Connor Swafford, 86, Crystal River, Fla., formerly of Reading, died April 15 in Seven Rivers Memorial Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Harry J. and Adelaide (Harbach) Wike. Active in the Republican party in Philadelphia, Swafford was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress during the 1960s. She was a 1936 graduate of Reading High School. Surviving is a sister, Gloria (Wike) Kowalski, Wyomissing. The Brown Funeral Home, Crystal River, was in charge of arrangements.

Swope, Marguerite M.

Marguerite M. Swope, 83, Marion Township, died July 27 at 2:50 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient two days. Her husband, Lee H. Swope, died Sept. 21, 1995. Born in Reinholds, she was a daughter of the late Harry H. and Ada (Sweigart) Meckley. Swope was employed for many years in the cafeteria at Conrad Weiser High School, Robesonia, and Conrad Weiser Elementary School, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Tulpehocken United Church of Christ, Richland. Surviving are four sons: Kenneth L. Sr., Carlos L. and Eugene A., all of Marion Township; and Glenn N., Dallas, Texas. Other survivors include a brother, Gordon Meckley, Newmanstown, Lebanon County; and a sister, Elizabeth (Meckley) Weidman, Denver, Lancaster County. There are also seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Curtis L. Swope, in 1945, and by a daughter, Janice M. (Swope) Seitz, in 1987. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville. Burial will be in Tulpehocken UCC Cemetery, Richland.

Swoyer, Clifford Floyd

Clifford Floyd, son of Charles and Elizabeth Swoyer, died of membraneous croup, aged 6 years, at the residence of the parents, 140 Thorn.

Swoyer, Dora E.M.

Services were held in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, for Dora E. M. Swoyer, formerly of East Main Street, Kutztown, who died Feb. 27 in Kutztown Manor, where she had resided since Feb. 13, 2002. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. H. Swoyer, who died July 29, 1954. Born in Mohnton, she was a daughter of the late Irwin R. and Elizabeth (Peters) Mosser. She was a 1933 graduate of the Homeopathic Hospital School of Nursing, West Chester. Until retiring in 1979, she was employed as night supervisor by the Lutheran Home at Topton from 1963. She was employed from 1955 to 1963 as an assistant to Dr. Calvin Weidner, and as a registered nurse by Community General Hospital, Reading, in the 1940's. Swoyer was a member of the Reading Choral Society from 1989 to 1995. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where she was a choir member from 1925 to 1995. Surviving are two sisters, Lillian H. (Mosser) Wasser, Lyons, and Roxie R. (Mosser) Reidenauer, Richmont Township. The Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, was in charge of arrangements.

Swoyer, Gertrude M.

Gertrude M. Swoyer, 79, died July 17 at 4:45 a.m. in her Exeter Township residence. She was the wife of George J. Swoyer. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Paul E. and E. Margaret (Yeagle) Goodhart. Swoyer was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Mount Penn, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the Cradle Roll. She was a 1944 graduate of Mount Penn High School. Swoyer was secretary of the Gem Bowling League at Bowl-O-Rama and was a founding member and secretary of the Exeter Democratic Club. She served as editor of the Skyline Drive Corvette Club newsletter and was a third life member of the club. Swoyer is also survived by a son, David G., Birdsboro, and a daughter, Marjorie L. (Swoyer) Kissling, Reading. There are also six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Trinity UCC. Burial will be private. Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn, is in charge of arrangements.

Swoyer, Helen M.

Services were held for Helen McCaughey Swoyer, 86,, of North Fort Myers, Fla., who died January 18 in Cape Coral Florida Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, William Swoyer. Born in Perkiomenville, she was employed for 20 years as office manager by Williams Pontiac, Boyertown, and was last employed by Stearly's Motor Freight, Collegeville,, retiring in 1981. She was later employed as a customer service representative by Sun Bank in Fort Myers, Fla. She was a 1932 graduate of Pottstown High School. Swoyer was treasurer of the Tamiami Village Retirement Center, North Fort Myers, for many years. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Diane Pietrobone, and a stepsons, William Swoyer, both of Mohnton. Other survivors include a brother. The North Fort Myers Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Swoyer, William C.

William C. Swoyer, who for 36 years was engaged in the plumbing and heating business, died Saturday evening at 5:15 o'clock at his home, 103 S. Home St., Topton. He was in his 62nd year. He was the son of the late William and Catherine (Sell) Swoyer, and was a member of the Lutheran faith, Perkiomen Lodge No. 495 F. and A.M. of East Greenville, Reading Consistory, Rajah Temple, and Topton Fire Co. and Beneficial society. He is survived by his wife, Ella (Groh) Swoyer, and one daughter, Arlene, at home. Services at above address at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial in St. John's cemetery, Hamburg.

Services were held for Judy B. Symosko, 60 of Lancashire Hall in Lancaster, formerly of Boyertown, who died March 18 in her residence. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown. The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., Boyertown.
