Among the local survivors of Audrey E. Stacherski, 45, of Reading, who died of a brain hemorrhage March 9 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where she had been a patient one week, are two daughters, Melissa L. Jones and Jennifer M. Stacherski, both of Hamburg.

Stahl, Francis F.

Services were held for Francis F. Stahl, 97, of Chestnut Knoll in Boyertown, who died July 29 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the widower of Elsie (Sweinhart) Stahl. Born in Bally, Stahl was the owner and operator of the former Bally IGA and Frozen Food Locker Plant, which he opened in 1945. He expanded the business to a second location in 1956 and retired in 1970. Stahl was a member of the Owl's Nest 1302 of East Greenville; the Fraternal Order of the Orioles in Boyertown; the Liberty Fire Company in New Berlinville; the Keystone Fire Company No. 1 in Bechtelsville; the Goodwill Fire Company in Bally; and several billiard leagues. Stahl was formerly a pitcher with the Twilight League in East Greenville and the Emmaus Baseball League. Surviving are a son, Francis O. Stahl of Pennsburg; a daughter, Lillian A. Hess of Green Lane; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; and 11 brothers and sisters. Stahl, Gerald W.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Gerald W. Stahl, 96, widower of Kathryn E. (Pickel) Stahl, of Barto Road, Bally, who died May 29 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Bally. For 40 years, Stahl worked as a shipping manager for Bally Case and Cooler, retiring in 1978. Stahl served in the Navy during peace time aboard the USS Arizona. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Bally and was a life member of the Bally Fire Co. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Danner of Allentown and Jane Stahl of Bally; one son, Jerry Stahl of Charleston, S.C. Also a brother, Francis Stahl of Bally; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and one sister. Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund, 610 Pine St., Bally, PA 19503. Burial was in the church cemetery. The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.

Stahler, Addie Estella (nee Biery)

Mrs. Addie Estella Stahler, wife of Harry F. Stahler, died yesterday at her home at Mertztown, following a long illness from complications. She was in her fifty-ninth year. Mrs. Stahler was born in Shamrock, the daughter of the late Uriah and Elizabeth, nee Fegley, Biery. She lived practically all of her life in Berks county. Surviving her are her husband, Harry F. Stahler; two sisters, Mrs. Max S. Erdmand and Mrs. David W. DeLong, of Mertztown; a step sister, Capitola Biery and a step-brother, Samuel F. BIery, both of Allentown. Strictly private funeral services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Stahler, Della

Della, the seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stahler, of Reading, formerly of this place, died on Monday evening of Catarrhal pneumonia after a week's illness. The funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday) forenoon at half-past nine o'clock, from the residence of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Haines. Burial will be made on Millerstown Cemetery. Rev. Breyfogel of Reading will officiate. The relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The child was a favorite and the youngest in the family, and the parents have the sympathy of our people in their bereavement.

Stahler, Grace K.

Grace K. Stahler, 89, formerly of Fleetwood, Berks County, died Thursday afternoon, January 12th in The Lutheran Home Topton of natural causes. Wife of the late Irvin N. Stahler (Aug. 14, 1998). Born in Fleetwood, daughter of the late Herbert E. and Elizabeth (Heffner) Kline. Stahler graduated at age 18 from Kutztown University with a BA in Education. She was in the class of 1934. She had been employed for 39 years as a elementary and physical education teacher with the Muhlenberg School District, retiring in 1977. A member of St. Paul s United Church of Christ Fleetwood. Survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. (Stahler), wife of Richard Becker, Fleetwood and Susan L. (Stahler), wife of Frederick Fetterman, Millersville; four grandchildren, Jason T. Fetterman, Alison L. Fetterman, Millersville, Douglas A. Becker, and Lindsay E. Becker, Fleetwood. Funeral services are Monday at 2:00PM from Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Burial will be in Fleetwood Cemetery. Contributions to the Alzheimer s Disease Association, 501 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601.

Stahler, Howard Wilson

Howard Wilson, son of Jeremiah B. Stahler and wife, Sallie S. (nee Schaeffer), of New Jerusalem, Rockland Township, Berks county, passed away on Monday morning, June 12, at 5.30, aged 1 year, 9 months and 22 days. The child was born at the same place August 21, 1920, and was baptized in the New Jerusalem Church at the same place, on October 10, 1920 by W. F. Bond. The parents were the sponsors. After brief services held at the house on Thursday afternoon, June 15, further services were held in the local church nearby and interment was made in the family plot on the adjoining cemetery. William F. Bond officiated. Undertakes J. J. Schafer & Son, of Topton, were the directors. The parents, one sister and two brothers remain.

Stalnecker, John

Burial will be at the convenience of the family for John "Red' Stalnecker, 83, who died November 28 in his residence on Perkiomen Avenue, Exeter Township. He was the husband of Eileen C. (Esterly) Stalnecker. Born in Reading, he was employed for 11 years as a truck driver for Berks Products, retiring in 1981. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Also surviving are a daughter, Carol Ann (Stalnecker) Domsicz, Exeter Township, and three sons: Raymond L., Gatesville, Texas; Michael K., Narvon; and William T., Amity Township. Other survivors include a brother; a sister; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Exeter Township, was in charge of the arrangements.

Stamm, Earl E.

Earl E. Stamm, 79, formerly of Shoemakersville, died May 30 at 7:15 p.m. in Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where he had been a resident since May 26, 2004. His wife, Mabel M. (Bair) Stamm, died June 9, 1975. Born in Penn Township, he was a son of the late Paul H. and Helen C. (Degler) Stamm. Stamm was owner-operator of Earl's Auto Repair, Shoemakersville, from 1958 until the late 1970s. He last worked as a mechanic for Dundore's Auto Garage, Leesport, until his retirement. He was a 1943 graduate of Penn-Bernville High School. Stamm was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former Tiler with Vaux Lodge 406, Free and Accepted Masons, Hamburg. Stamm is survived by a stepson, Dennis P. Long, Windsor Township; and two sisters, Mildred A. (Stamm) Reed, Reading, and Grace I. (Stamm) Kemmerling, Tilden Township. There are also two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township.

Starkey, Mary Elva

Starr, Marian E.

Services were held in St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg, for Marian E. Starr, 87, who died May 8 in her South Fifth Street, Hamburg residence. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, John W. L. Starr Sr., who died Oct. 24, 1981. Born in Hamburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert D. Sr. and Kathryn E. (Miller) Wanner. Until retiring in 1975, she was employed by the Reading Bible House. She was previously employed by various knitting mills in the Hamburg area, and by several retail stores: Kresge's and Grant's, both of Reading, and Silco Drug Store and Miller's, both of Hamburg. In the 1980s, she was a volunteer for HIS Covenant Christian Book Store, Hamburg. Starr was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a 1933 graduate of Hamburg High School. Surviving are a son, John W. L. Starr, Jr., and a daughter, Cathryn E. Starr, both at home. The Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Starr, Theodore E.

Theodore E. Starr, 96, Cumru Township, died June 18 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where he had been a patient for five days. He was the husband of Mary E. (Barr) Starr. Born in Rough and Ready, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late Samuel O. and Lily Ann (Mauer) Starr. Starr had been employed for more than 30 years as head of the science department of Reading High School, retiring in 1976. He previously taught physics at Valley Forge Military Academy, Wayne, Delaware County, and Muhlenberg High School. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Reading, where he was a past Sunday school teacher, council member, secretary, treasurer and recipient of the Eagle award. Starr was also former superintendent of St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. He was a 1925 graduate of Hegins Township High School; a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster; and completed graduate studies at Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia. Starr was an Army veteran of World War II. He was past master of Reading Lodge 62, Free and Accepted Masons and was a 33rd degree mason with the Scottish Rite. Starr was past secretary treasurer of the Masonic Center, West Reading and was an instructor for the Masonic School of Instruction with the 7th Masonic District. He also served on the admissions board of the Masonic Home. Starr was a two-term commissioner for Cumru Township. He is also survived by a daughter, Suzan L. (Starr) Salamo, and a son, Richard D., Reading. Other survivors include a sister, Grace A. (Starr) Shenkweiler, in Schuylkill County. There are also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Henninger Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Startzer, Ernest T.

Robesonia, Sept. 24 - Ernest T. Startzer, 41 Chestnut Street, this borough, died in the Homeopathic Hospital, Reading, aged 15 years. Death was caused by complications setting in after he fractured his arm in a fall. He was a son of Theodore M. Startzer and Florence (Schaeffer) Startzer, was a member of the Reformed denomination, and a ninth grade student in the local schools. Surviving besides the parents are three sisters: Marguerite, Edith and Sylvia Startzer, at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Startzer, this borough; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Schaeffer, Reading. Funeral on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the C. Nodman Lamm Funeral Home in Wernersville where services will be conducted by the Rev. Ralph E. Starr. Interment in Hains Church Cemetery.

Robesonia, March 23 - Joseph Startzer died last night at his home, 121 North Robeson Street, aged 68 years. He was a son of the late Theodore and Sarah (Goodhart) Startzer, was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church and the Pioneer Fire Company, this place; Red Men in Reading and the Moose in Lebanon. Surviving are his widow, Caroline (Moyer) Startzer; three chidren, Theodore, this place; Anna, wife of Stephen Trupe, this place and Ella, wife of Luther Weber, Womelsdorf; five grandchildren: three brothers and two sisters, Samuel, Robesonia R.D.; William, Harrisburg; Lewis and Mrs. Adam Sonnen, this place; Mrs. David Moyer, Wernersville. William Startzer, 80, a retired steel worker, died last night in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Ressler, Robesonia, R.D.1. He was a son of the late Theodore and Sarah (Goodhart) Startzer. His wife, Margaret (Hoover) Startzer, died 15 years ago. Startzer was a retired employee of the Bethlehem Steel Co., Harrisburg and member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lebanon. Surviving are his daughter, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis, Robesonia, and two sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Sonnen of Robesonia, and Rhoda, wife of David Moyer, Wernersville. Services were held for Lisa M. Staub, 21, of Alburtis, formerly of Gilbertsville, who died March 2 in Philadelphia. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of Scott A. Staub of Gilbertsville and Louise M. (Johnson) Stahley of Alburtis. She attended St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boyertown. Surviving in addition to her parents is a brother, Andrew A. Staub of Kutztown; four stepbrothers, Christopher Stahley of Alburtis, Richard T. Tadley of Boyertown, Robert M. Tadley of Collegeville, and William C. Mang of Phoenixville. Also a stepmother, Marsha L. (Fleagle) Staub of Gilbertsville; a stepfather, Mark Stahley of Alburtis; paternal grandfather, George A. Stauffer, Andrew W.

Andrew W. Stauffer, a farmer who for years made his home near Bally, died there Saturday morning following a stroke of apoplexy. He was 69 years, 6 months and 15 days of age. He is survived by his widow, Anna, nee Bauer, and the following children: Charles and Edna, at home; Jacob, Boyertown; and Thomas and Marvin, Bally. The funeral will be held at his late home on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock with continued services at 2 o'clock in Huffs church, where interment will also be made. Rev. Bond, of Shamrock, will officiate.

Stauffer, Beulah M. (nee Meitzler)

Mrs. Beulah M., wife of Howard Stauffer, East Texas, died at her home Friday morning at 8.30 o'clock of influenza. She was sick nine days. Mrs. Stauffer was born at Topton, a daughter of Richard C. and Annie Snyder Meitzler. Besides her husband she is survived by two small sons and her parents; two brothers and three sisters, of Kutztown. Funeral on Tuesday at 1.30 o'clock. Private services at the house. Burial at Trexlertown cemetery. Rev. M. H. Brensinger, of Fleetwood, will officiate.

Stauffer, Charles B.

An affinity for coon hunting indirectly caused the death of Charles B. Stauffer, of 319 Pennsylvania Ave., Kutztown, yesterday morning in the Reading hospital. He was 33 years old. While coon hunting last Dec. 1, Stauffer climbed up a tree, lost his hold and fell to the ground, injuring his spine. He had been a patient in the hospital since that time and his death was attributed to injuries received in the accident. President of the Berks County Coon Assn., he was employed as a stove mounter at the Caloric Gas Stove works in Topton, and was a member of Moulders’ Union No. 114 of Topton. He was a member of Huffs Lutheran church. Born in Washington township, Berks county, he was a son of Andrew and Anna, nee Bauer, Stauffer. Surviving are his wife, the former Verna Boyer; two daughters, Lucille and Anna Mae, at home; a son, Andrew, at home; a sister, Mrs. William Conrad of Bechtelsville; three step-brothers, Thomas and Marvin Stauffer of Barto and Jacob Stauffer of Boyertown. Rev. J. N. Blatt will officiate at short services Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at his late home with further services in Huffs church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services were held for David G. Stauffer, 82, of Caln Township and formerly of New Berlinville, who died December 31 at the Va Medical Center in Coatesville, where he had been a patient for the past five years. He was the widower of Anna May (Mest) Stauffer. Born in New Berlinville, Stauffer worked as a machine operator for Cabot Industries, for 35 years, retiring in 1986. During World War II, Stauffer served in the U.S. Army. Stauffer was a member of the Keystone Fire Co. No. 1 in Bechtelsville, the Friendship Hook & Ladder Co. in Boyertown and the Keystone Fire Co. in Boyertown. Surviving are three sons, David L. Stauffer of New Berlinville, Royce D. Stauffer of Boyertown and Dennis G. Stauffer of Bechtelsville; one daughter, Christine D. Scott of Phoenix. Also one brother, Warren G. Stauffer of New Berlinville; two sisters, Emma Ward of Maryland and Mae G. Gabel of Boyertown; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held for Edith H. (Eberhart) Stauffer, 79, of Trexlertown, Lehigh County, formerly of Bechtelsville, wife of Clayton G. Stauffer, who died January 4 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, where she had been a patient. She was also the widow of Harry Y. Moyer, Sr. Born in Oley, she was a homemaker. Stauffer was a member of the Pike Sportsman's Association in Pikeville. She is survived by five daughters, Lorraine A. Levan of Gilbertsville, Barbara A. Fegley of Macungie, Violet M. Bruni of Hatfield, Marlene F. Brunner of Boyertown and Jenny L. Freed of Telford; six sons, Harry Y. Moyer Jr. of Kutztown, Ronald D. Moyer and Robert D. Moyer, both of Oley, Harrison Moyer of Fleetwood, Ernest Moyer of Boyertown and David D. Moyer of Bechtelsville; Also one sister, Gertrude Mutter of Bally; one brother, Walter Eberhart of Bechtelsville; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother; a daughter and a son. Burial was in the Hill Church Cemetery in Pike Township. Among the local survivors of Edith H. (Eberhart) Moyer Stauffer, Trexlertown, who died Jan. 4 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she had been a patient since Dec. 24, are two sons, Harry Y. Moyer Jr., Kutztown, and Harrison Moyer, Fleetwood.

Stauffer, Edna B. (nee Fisher)

Mrs. Edna B. Stauffer, 87, of Mohnton R. 3, Berks County, died Sunday in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading. She was the widow of Alfred S. Stauffer, who died in 1965. Mrs. Stauffer and her husband founded the Maple Grove Park, Brecknock Township, Berks County, in 1928. She continued to operate it through 1977. Born in Barto R.D., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Andora (Benfield) Fisher. She was a member of Huff's United Church of Christ, Huff's Church, Berks County. Surviving are three sons, Carl F. and John F., both of Mohnton R. 3, and Roy F., of Shillington; four daughters, Miriam S., wife of Ira L. Leeser of Macungie, Mrs. Verna Gantz, Evelyn, wife of Joe F. Lewis, and Lillian, wife of Willard C. Kachel, all of Mohnton R. 3, and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Iredale Funeral Home, 1 E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Stauffer, Francis W.

Francis W. Stauffer, 75, a retired carpenter of 309 State St., East Greenville, died Saturday at his home. Born in Clayton, Berks County, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Sarah (Weidner) Stauffer. He was the husband of Susan (Frey) Stauffer. Stauffer, Mrs. J.B. (nee Erb)

Mrs. J.B. Stauffer wife of Jas. B. Stauffer died Tuesday at her residence No. 401 East Phila. Avenue after a two week severe affliction of kidney trouble. She was 62 year. She left sorrow stricken husband, and no children. She was a daughter of the late David Erb. She leaves two brothers, Rev. Jesse S. Erb of Slatington, and David S. Erb of Boyertown, and three sisters Charlotte, Hetty, (widow of Zepheniah Romig,) and Mrs. Jesse Oxenford of Boyertown. Funeral today, Rev. Weber officiating, interment in Fairview Cemetery.

Stauffer, James D.

James D. Stauffer, a widely known resident of North Chestnut Street, Boyertown, died at his home on Sunday afternoon, following an illness covering many months during which time he suffered with tuberculosis. His age was 48 years, 4 months and 23 days.

Deceased for many years had charge of a bread delivery team through Berks County and in this way had a large acquaintance throughout the community. In later years he was a bartender and his most recent occupation was that of stewart at the home of the Boyertown Nest 22, Franternal Order of Orioles.

He is survived by his widow, Mary (nee Weidner), and the following brothers and sisters: Morris, Lehighton; Milton, Topton; Sarah, wife of Jefferson Dotterrer, Boyertown; Hannah, wife of Davis Gottshall, Skippack; Mary, wife of Roger Jackson, Norristown; Katie, wife of George S. Grim, of Boyertown; Amandus, Skippack; and Wilson, of Limerick. Deceased was an active member of Boyertown Nest No. 22, Fraternal Order of Orioles; Prospect Hill Camp No. 1492, Modern Woodmen of America, of Boyertown; Loyal Order of Moose, No. 369, Pottstown; and Pottstown Aerie of Eagle, No. 626, Pottstown.

Funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon, August 5, at 1:30 o�clock. Rev. Henry W. Warmkessel will officiate. Interment will be made in the Fairview Cemetery.

Stauffer, James S.

James S. Stauffer of 904 Wyoming St., Allentown, retired shipper, died yesterday morning in his home. He was 66. He retired 16 years ago after 20 years with Mack Trucks, Inc. Born in Huffs Church, Berks County, he was a son of the late James and Elmira (Seisholtz) Stauffer. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Huffs Union Church. Surviving are his widow, Laura E. (Kale) Stauffer; two brothers, Elam Hunter of Emmaus, and David of Huffs Church; four sisters, Edna, wife of Fred Reinert, and Mrs. Florence Schott, both of Huffs Church; Jennie, wife of Elmer Heffner of Bally; and Miss Elva Hunter, Mertztown R. 1. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown, with viewing 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Joanna S. Stauffer of Bally Star Route died yesterday in Pottstown Hospital. She was 84. Born in Hereford Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Sarah (Stauffer) Stauffer. She was a member of the Hereford Mennonite Church. There are no survivors. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Mann Funeral Home, 221 Main St., East Greenville. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Stauffer, Lillian (nee Ziegler)

Mrs. Lillian Stauffer, nee Ziegler, widow of Wellington Stauffer, died suddenly at 10:55 o�clock last night, less than five hours after being seized with a stroke, at her home, the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shive, 937 Hamilton street, third floor. She was in her 56th year. Born in Farmington, Berks county, a daughter of the late Henry and Annie, nee Hoffman, Ziegler, she had been a resident of this city since 1913, and she was held in high regard by her neighbors and many friends. Mrs. Stauffer was a faithful member of St. Matthew�s Lutheran church, and was an active member of several women�s organizations, including the L.G.E., P.O. of A., Degree of Naomi, Daughters of America and the Fraternal Mystic Circle. Her husband died about two years ago. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters, Mrs. Charles Shive, this city; one sister, Mrs. Oscar Rockel, Fogelsville, and one brother, George Ziegler, Los Angeles, Cal. Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed last night.

Stauffer, Mary

Mrs. Mary Stauffer, wife of Mr. Nathan Stauffer, of Longswamp, died on Sunday night a week, at the age of 32. She had long been ill with consumption, but through the whole of her suffering she was so patient and submissive that no words of complaint ever fell from her lips. Sustained by the Grace of God she was enabled to say “Thy will be done.” She was a kind and loving wife, and her death is sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends and neighbors. Her remains were interred at Huff’s Church, Rev. David Humbert, of Bowers’ Station, officiating.

Stauffer, Merrill W.

A funeral service was held for Merrill W. Honey Stauffer, 89, of Unger Lane in New Berlinville, husband of Ella O. (Cleaver) Stauffer, who died June 9 in his home. Born in Colebrookdale, he worked as a full fashion knitter for the former Fashion Hosiery Mill in Boyertown, retiring in 1982. Stauffer was a member of St. John - Hill United Church of Christ in Boyertown. Surviving in addition to his wife of 49 years are one daughter, Teresa A. Skoog of Boyertown; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers. Burial was in Hill Church Cemetery in Pike Township. The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.

Stauffer, Milton D.

Milton D. Stauffer, an aged resident of Topton, died at 6.30 Saturday evening at his home on Weiss street, aged 64 years and 3 months. He had been ill nine months. Mr. Stauffer was born in Pike township, Berks county, a son of James and Lucinda (Drumheller) Stauffer. He spent most of his time as a farmer, being for eleven years engaged in that capacity for the Lutheran Orphans' Home at Topton. He was last employed, however, by the Penn State Silk Company, Topton. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Topton, and of Orion Castle, No. 501, K.G.E., of Topton. There survive his wife, Catharine (Yoder) Stauffer and the following children: Rachel, at home; Clarence, Lawson, Mrs. Abner Croll and Harry Stauffer, all of Topton; Mrs. W. C. Haas and George A. Stauffer, of Oley, and James Nathan Stauffer, of this city. A step-son, Preston Rohrbach, of Bethlehem, also survives, together with the following brothers and sisters: Milton Stauffer, of Limbrick Square, Montgomery county; Amandes Stauffer, Skippack; Mrs. Jefferson Dotterer and Mrs. Kate Grim, Boyertown, and Mrs. David Gottschall, of Harleysville. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon with services at his late home on Weiss street at 1.30, continued services in Trinity Lutheran church, Topton, and interment in the Union cemetery. Rev. William H. Kline, of Topton, will officiate.

Stauffer, Ralph H.

Ralph H. Stauffer, son of Walter L. and Viola V. (Herr) Stauffer, 601 North Thirteenth street, died of acute apendicitus at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday at the Homeopathic Hospital. He became ill Saturday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital Sunday and immediately underwent an operation. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran School and attended the Northeast Junior High School. The parents, one brother, W. Paul, and one sister, Miriam N. Stauffer, at home, survive. Funeral Director Seidel removed the body to the home of the parents.

Stauffer, Sallie B. (nee Baum)

Mrs. Sallie B. Stauffer, nee Baum, estimable wife of Sassaman Stauffer, well known resident of Alburtis, died there at her home on Friday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock. Mrs. Stauffer, who was in her 77th year, had been in fairly good health until Thursday forenoon when she suffered a stroke and fell down a flight of stairs at her home. Apoplexy was given as the cause of her death. Mrs. Stauffer for a number of years lived in Alburtis, where she was held in high esteem by her neighbors and many friends. She was a faithful member of the Reformed wing of the Longswamp church. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Muthard, at home; Mrs. Ada Feifel, Allentown; Mrs. Ulysses Nestor, Topton, and Mrs. Clarence Donahue, Hosensack; five sons, Wellington, Allentown; Roland, Elizabeth, N.J.; Sassaman, Jr., Guthsville; Chester, at home, and Andrews V., Easton, together with twenty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ammon Lichty, Allentown, a brother, John Baum, Lansdale, and three step-sisters and one step-brother. The funeral will be held from her late home on Wednesday at 1.30 p.m., daylight saving time, with short services at the house and further services in the Longswamp church, Rev. William Meckstroth officiating. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Steckler, Bertram D.

Bertram D. Steckler, died today at his home, 1018 Centre Avenue. He was senior member of the firm of B. and L. Steckler, Centre Avenue Florists. He was the son of the late David H. and Theresa Steckler. There survive two sisters, Irene and Loretta Steckler at home, and one brother, Leo G. Steckler, this city. Funeral Director John R., Dougherty is in charge.

Steckler, David H.

Died of lung affection, at 10:45am today at his residence, 1018 Centre Avenue, aged 53 years. He is survived by his widow, Theresa, and these children: Bertram, Irene, Leo, Loretto of this city; also these brothers and sisters: Jacob and John, Pauline, wife of Anthony Roth, Reading; Anthony of York; Joseph, Mary and Mrs. Elizabeth Wildermann of Pittsburgh. Mr. Steckler was a faithful member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church and had many friends. He was a well known florist and was engaged in the business at 1018 Centre Avenue for 19 years until retiring last November, owing to failing health.

Steckler, David H.

The funeral of David H. Steckler took place from his residence, 1018 Centre Avenue at 8:15 am. The cortege proceeded to St. Joseph?s Catholic Church of which deceased was an active member where a requiem mass was celebrated. The remains lay in a black cloth covered casket, with oxidized extension bar handles, oxidized trimmings and plate bearing name and age of deceased and date of death and were attired in a black robe. There were a number of tributes. Interment was private in Catholic Cemetery. Funeral Director Theo. C. Auman.

Leo Steckler Dies at Home Leo G. Steckler of 1018 Centre Avenue, a retired florist, died Sunday night in his residence, following an illness of eight years. Born in Reading, a son of the late and David and Theresa S.R. (Hauser) Steckler, he was the owner-operator of Steckler Florist's, Reading, for 45 years, until his retirement 22 years ago. Mr. Steckler was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Surviving are his widow, Sadie R. (Wamsher) Steckler. Funeral will be held Thursday at 9am in the John P. Feeney Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung at 9:30 am in St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be made at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale.

Steckler, Loretto L.

Former Flower Shop Operator, 67, Dies Loretto L. Steckler,67, of 1018 Centre Avenue, died last night at her residence. She was a former co-owner and operator of the Steckler Flower Shop. She was born in Reading,daughter of the late David H. and Theresa ( Hauser) Steckler and was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church. Her business establishment closed down in June 1959. Surviving are a sister, Irene T. and a brother, Leo G., both of Reading. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30a.m from the Whelan Funeral Home followed by a Requiem High Mass at 10 am in St Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Steckler, Sadie R.

Mrs. Sadie R. Steckler,73, of 1018 Centre Ave, died Thursday night in the Hassler Home, Cumru township, where she had been a guest since Oct 15. Her husband, Leo G. Steckler, died Dec 30,1973. A daughter of the late J. Arthur and Sadie (Mervine) Wamsher, Mrs. Steckler had been employed as an accountant at the former American Chain and Cable Co. Reading, until she retired in 1965. She was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church and of the senior citizens organization at Calvary United Church of Christ. Surviving are two brothers: Harry G. Wamsher, Coatesville: and Jasper Wamsher, Birdsboro; two sisters, E. Grace, wife of Lee Care at Odd Fellows Home, Middletown; and Hazel M., wife of Edgar R. Lang, Douglassville R.D. 1. Funeral will be from the John P. Feeney Funeral Home on Monday at 8:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial wil be celebrated in St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church. David H. Steele, 79, proprietor for the last 26 years of the Lower Longswamp hotel at Mertztown, died Saturday morning at the Allentown hospital. Born in Longswamp township, he was a son of the late Solomon and Maria (DeLong) Steele. He was a member of Huffs Lutheran church. Surviving are his wife, Katie (Smith) Steele, one daughter, Annie M., wife of William Reinert, Alburtis R. 1, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Maria Steele, widow of Solomon Steele, died Sunday morning at 7:30 o�clock at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John F. DeLong, near Bowers, from complications, aged 81 years, 6 months and 23 days. Mrs. Steele was one of the oldest residents in Maxatawny township, residing there since the death of her husband nine years ago. She was a daughter of the late Benjamin Delong and his wife, Catherine Rohrbach Delong, and was a native of Longswamp township. There she was an active member of the Reformed congregation of Huffs church. There survives one son, David Steele, of Mertztown R.D.; and two daughters, Mrs. John F. DeLong, near Bowers, and Mrs. George Bechtel, Alburtis R.D. Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held from the Delong home on Friday morning at 9:30 o�clock, standard time. Short services will be held at the house and continued services in Huffs church. Rev. J. N. Blatt will officiate. Interment will be made in Huffs church cemetery.

Steffe, Elsie

Private services were held for Elsie Steffe, 86, formerly of Amity Township and Grandview Manor Assisted Living, Fleetwood, who died March 14 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township. She had been a resident there since 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Ben Steffe, in 1979. Born in West Reading, she had been employed for many years by Rosedale Knitting Mills, Laureldale. She is survived by a sister and a brother. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, was in charge of the arrangements.

Steffey, Grace N.

Services were held in the Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Grace N. Steffey, 89, Wyndcliffe House Apartments, Hamburg, who died Jan. 23 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since Jan. 10. Burial was private. She was predeceased by her husband, M. Luther Steffey, who died Jan. 6, 1991. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Edwin H. and Eleanor M. (Brewer) Moyer. Surviving are two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a daughter, Suzann A. (Steffey) Gehret, who died Aug. 14, 2002.

Steffey, Harvey

Harvey Steffey of 2943 Diamond Ave., Alton Park, Allentown, a silk weaver for more than 40 years, died unexpectedly at 2 p.m. yesterday of a heart attack while waiting for a bus along S. Lehigh street. He was 58. He was born in Topton, where he resided until two years ago. Steffey was employed at the Theodore Fine Silk Co., Emmaus. He was a son of the late Henry and Ellen (Schell) Steffey and the husband of Emma E. (Hein) Steffey. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Topton, and the Topton Fire Co. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Lovie J., wife of Charles H. Dankel, Topton; Betty F., wife of Veron L. Kercher, Alburtis R. 1, and Sylvia M., wife of Neil G. Moyer, at home; three brothers, William, Clayton and Henry, all of Topton; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence Phillips, Kutztown; Mrs. Paul Fritch, Mertztown R. 1, and Mrs. Paul Keiser and Mrs. Marion Christman, both of Topton, and four grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville.

Steffey, Robert

Despondent because of sickness in his family and his inability to satisfactorily provide for his wife and brood of three children because of a long period of unemployment, Robert Steffey committed suicide at 7.45 o�clock Wednesday night at his home on Furnace street, Topton, by shooting himself with a shot gun. He was aged 32 years. For several weeks, Steffey is said to have brooded over his misfortunes. These were increased during the recent storm and flood when water surrounded his home and entered the first floor to a depth of two or three feet causing much damage to furniture. This added misfortune is believed to have been the last straw that caused a greater despondency which finally ended in his untimely death. In a note written just before his death, Steffey expressed sorrow over his contemplated deed and called upon his brothers to assist in the care of his children. His wife and children were visiting at the home of a neighbor when the suicide took place. A neighbor heard the shot and with Constable Harvey Kemp entered the home. Going to the second floor they found the door to the front bedroom locked and upon forcing it found Steffey sprawled over the bed, the shot having taken the top of his head off. Dr. C. F. Smith, of Topton, deputy coroner of Berks county, was notified and after viewing the remains issued a certificate of death and gave permission to Undertaker Irwin D. DeLong to remove the body to his morgue. He was a native of Topton, a son of Ellen, nee Schell, and the late Henry Steffey. He is survived by his mother, a widow, Mary, nee Bailey, three children, Rachel, Myrl and Helen and ten brothers and sisters, William, Harvey, Ralph, Clayton, Henry, Marie, Florence, Maude, Daisy and Mrs. David Boyer, all of Topton. His paternal grandmother also survives. Private funeral services will be held at the funeral home of Undertaker Irwin D. DeLong, Home avenue, Topton, Monday afternoon at 1 o�clock, daylight time. Interment will be made in the Topton cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday night from 7 to 9 o�clock.

Sarah Ann (Eck) Steffey, widow of Ephraim Steffey, one of the oldest residents of Berks county, died of complications at 5.15 Monday morning (Christmas) at her home on Penn street, Topton, at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 8 days. She had been ill ten weeks. Mrs. Steffey was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, a daughter of the late Jacob and Rebecca (Eck) Eck. Her husband passed away nine years ago. There survive the following children: Mrs. Ellen Heffner and Mrs. Lillie Schaeffer, both at home; Mrs. Alice Bechtold, Mrs. Harvey Leibensperger and Mrs. Maggie Richard, all of Reading; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Mathias Eck, Pottstown, and Mrs. William DeLong, Reading. The funeral will be held on Monday morning, January 1, at 9.30 from her late home on Penn street, Topton, with further services in the Church of God, Topton, and interment in the Longswamp church cemetery. Rev. Fahl, Reading, and Rev. Musselman, Allentown, will officiate.

V. Miriam Steffy, 87, died July 31 at 2:05 p.m. in her Temple residence. Her husband, Adam B. Steffy, died April 20, 1991. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Paul E. and Helen M. (Stott) Hoffmann. She was co-owner and operator along with her husband of a city nursing home, Steffy's Home for the Aged, until the 1970s. Steffy, who resided with her grandson, Scott Bocian, is also survived by a daughter, Lynda (Steffy) Bocian, Reading. There are also two additional grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Henninger Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Calvin L. Stein, 65, a retired foundry foreman, died Tuesday night in his home, 309 Greenwich St., Kutztown. Born in Maxatawny township, he was the son of the late Henry and Sarah (Lazarus) Stein, and a resident of Kutztown for the past 44 years. Before his retirement recently, Mr. Stein was employed as a foreman by the Kutztown Foundry and Machine Co., which firm he had been associated with for 50 years. He was also a member of St. Paul's Reformed church, Kutztown, having served as an elder for many years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie (Spangler) Stein; two sons, Forrest C. of Dunellen, N.J.; Earl, Reading R. 2; two daughters, Myrtle G., wife of Irwin H. Fister, Reading and Anabelle M., wife of Marlow F. Leibensperger, Kutztown; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Annie Angstadt, Kutztown and three brothers, James and William Stein of Kutztown and Edward of Allentown.

Stein, Eliza A. (nee Oswald)

Mrs. Eliza A. (Oswald) Stein of Emaus, widow of Calvin E. Stein, died of complications at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Allentown hospital at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 9 days. She had been ill for three years and a patient at the hospital for nine days. Mrs. Stein was born in Lower Macungie township, a daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Smith) Oswald. She was a member of the Lutheran wing of the Mertztown church. Her husband preceded her in death five years ago. Surviving are three sons and two daughters: Luther, Palmerton R. 1; Clarence, Emaus; Arthur, Allentown; Mrs. Edgar Shellhammer, Breinigsville; and Mrs. Paul Hertzog, Emaus. There are also 18 grandchildren, a brother, Harvey Oswald, and a sister, Mrs. Ella Burley, both of Allentown. Short services for the family will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Schmoyer funeral home in Breinigsville, with regular services in the Mertztown church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. William Dry will officiate. Viewing Saturday from 7 to 9.

Steinman, Willis S.

Willis S. Steinman, 59, of 414 Jefferson St., East Greenville, husband of Ida (Stahl) Steinman, died Friday night in his home. Born in Hereford Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late George H. and Mary G. (Christman) Steinman. Until his retirement in 1960, he had been employed by Brunner's Bakery, East Greenville, 25 years. He was a member of the New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, East Greenville. Surviving with his widow are a daughter, Ellena, wife of Anthony Lucas of Lansdale; a son, Ray of Newtown Square; four grandchildren and two sisters, Katie, wife of Calvin Albitz, and Mrs. Mary Treichler, both of East Greenville. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hunsberger Funeral Home, 163 Main St., Pennsburg. Viewing will be after 7 p.m. tomorrow.

John Steinmetz died at his home in Gibraltar in his 73rd year. He is survived by his wife Mary (nee Lykens) and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Sarah Mock of the Falls of French Creek, Chester county; Mrs. Leah Wynn, of Pottstown; Mrs. Catharine Dippery of West Reading, and Amos Steinmetz of Robinson station. He was a member of St John's Lutheran church, of Gibraltar.

Steitz, Henry

Henry Steitz, proprietor of the Fairview Hotel, West Catasauqua, died of diabetes, aged 46.

Stele, Henry

Henry Stele, who was living here for a number of years, but lately at Allentown, died last week and was buried last Tuesday at the Longswamp church. Rev. Humbert officiated. He brought his age to 60 years. At the same time and place, a three-months-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bailey, of Mertztown. The latter is a daughter to Mr. Stele.

Stengel, Catharine

Catharine, wife of Henry Stengel, died of a complication of diseases, aged 36 years, at 4:40 a.m. to-day, at her residence, 1201 Elm. She was ailing four months and bedfast four weeks. Deceased resided in this city 21 years and was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was a daughter of John and Elizabeth Ernst, of this city, who together with her husband, survive, besides these children: Helen Edward and Raymond Stengel; also a sister, Emma Ernst, and a brother, John Ernst, both of this city.

In this city, on the 5th last, Katie, wife of Henry Stengel, aged 37 years, 2 months and 10 days. Stengel, Lawrence J.

Services were held for Lawrence J. "Red' Stengel, 78, husband of Grace M. (Drumheller) Stengel, of Millsboro, Del., who died February 17 in Beebe Hospital in Lewis, DE. Born in Bally, Stengel was a building superintendent for the Rosemont Plaza in Bryn Mawr for 25 years, retiring in 1987. He was also an electrician with Russell Grim's Electric of Boyertown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Stengel was a member of the Pike Sportsman's Association, the Bally Fire Co., the Liberty Fire Co. in New Berlinville, the Keystone Fire Co. in Boyertown, the Gablesville Athletic Association, the American Legion Post No. 28 in Millsboro and the New Berlinville Fire Co. Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Charles L. Stengel of Glenmoore; five sisters, Rita Meck of Sassamansville, Emma Landis, Boyertown, Margaret Reichart of Bally, and Anna Mae Melcher and Marie Hillegass, both of Bally; and two grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 625 W. Ridge Pike, Building A, Suite 100, Conshohocken, PA 19428. Burial was in Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery, Bally. The Catagnus Funeral Home, Boyertown, handled the arrangements.

Stengel, Mary M. (nee Wetzel)

Mrs. Mary M., nee Wetzel, Stengel, wife of George G. Stengel, Bally, died Monday in her home at the age of 75. A son, George Covely, resides in Allentown. She was a native of Longswamp township, a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth, nee Moll, Wetzel, and held membership in the Longswamp Evangelical and Reformed church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2 p.m., from the late home. Burial in Longswamp cemetery.

Stengele, John M.

Ex-Fleetwood teacher, coach. Memorial services were held in Grace Bible Fellowship Church, Quakertown, for John M. Stengele, of Perkasie, Bucks County, who died June 6 in Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, Bucks County. He was the husband of Annetta M. (Gehman) Stengele. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Ralph R. and Arusla J. Stengele. He was a 1945 graduate of Allentown High School and a 1951 graduate of Moravian College, Bethlehem, where he was captain of the baseball and basketball teams in his senior year. Stengele was a shortstop and pitcher for Kutztown in the Berks Red League. He was basketball coach at Fleetwood from 1951 to 1957, where he compiled a 109-30 record, including winning the 1957 state Class C title. Stengele also coached the baseball team, which won the county title in 1952 and never finished lower than second in its division during his tenure. He was also employed as a high school math teacher. In 1957, Stengele moved to the Pennridge School District, Perkasie, as a high school caoch and math teacher, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church, Quakertown. Also surviving are three daughters, Rose Ann (Stengele) Escandel, Hop Bottom, Susquehanna Township; Cheryl L. (Stengele) Nash, Clarkston, Mich.; and Kim Stengele, in Tanzania. Other survivors include six grandchildren and a brother, Lyell Stengele, Allentown.

Stephens, Alice R. (nee Miller)

Mrs. Alice R. Stephens of Alburtis R. 1, wife of Harvey E. Stephens, died yesterday afternoon at the Allentown Hospital. She was 72. Born in Hereford Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Jonathan and Sarah Kase Miller. She was a member of the UCC Congregation of Zion Lehigh Church. Surviving with her husband are a son, Elmer J., Allentown; two daughters, Edna A., wife of Raymond Gehris, Alburtis R. 1, and Alma M., wife of Paul Rhoades, Mertztown R. 1; a brother, Elmer, Emmaus; a sister, Mrs. Edwin Bauer, Allentown, and a grandchild. She was predeceased by a brother and sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville, with viewing from noon Saturday to time of funeral.

Stephens, Estella, Reading, Pa., daughter of the late Benjamin and Catherine (Miller) Teter, died September 21 after a long illness. She was 71 years of age. Sternbergh, Quentin C.

Quentin C. Sternbergh, 84, Allentown, formerly of Stone Harbor, N.J., and Vero Beach, Fla., died Aug. 14 in Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown. His wife, Arlene L. (Fegley) Sternbergh, died in 1995. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late James H. and Katherine (Cornell) Sternbergh. Sternbergh was employed by Western Electric Co., Muhlenberg Township, until his retirement. Sternbergh and his wife were the owners-operators of Sternbergh Antiques in Berks County from 1953 until 1980. He was one of the founding members of the National Association of Dealer in Antiques. Sternbergh was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are three daughters: Anita S. (Sternbergh) Bressler, Reading; Martha S. (Sternbergh) Neff, Allentown; and Susan K. (Sternbergh) Bruder, Fleetwood. Other survivors include six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, Spring Township. Trexler Funeral Home Inc., Allentown, is in charge of arrangements.

Sterner, Aaron

Aaron Sterner, a resident of Longswamp township, Berks county, died at the Allentown hospital Tuesday night. He was in his 72nd year. Born in Longswamp township, the son of the late Herrn and Susanna, nee Herbst, Sterner, he was a lifelong resident of that community. His wife, Mary, nee Letterhouse, Sterner, preceded him in death 39 years ago. He was a member of the Reformed wing of Huffs church. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Bailey, Henningsville, Berks county, with whom he resided for a short while before his removal to the hospital. He also leaves one brother, Alfred, of Reading. Funeral services will be held from the Schofer funeral home, 107 Main St., Topton, with the Rev. J. N. Blatt officiating. Interment in Huff’s church cemetery.

Mrs. Agnes (Oswald) Sterner, a Mertztown native, died Sunday at Berksheim. She was 77. She had been a guest at the home five weeks. Before that she lived at 101 Angelical St., Reading. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Warmkessel) Oswald. She was the widow of George S. Sterner. Surviving are three sons, Harold, Arlo and Gerald, all of Reading; three daughters, Maria, wife of Nicholas Mitchicka, and Annetta, wife of Michael Kostick, both of Reading, and Gloria, wife of Harold Ulrich of Mohnton R. 1, Berks County; a brother, Francis, of San Antonio, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Heckman of Allentown, and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Gosnell Funeral Home, Shillington. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. today.

Clinton O. Sterner of Zionsville R. 1 died Wednesday in Quakertown Community Hospital. He was 82. Born in Hereford, he was a son of the late Henry and Louisa Sterner. He was a stone mason until his retirement six years ago. He was predeceased by his wife Helen. Surviving are a son, John, of Macungie R. 1, and a grandchild. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Werley Funeral Home, at 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown, with viewing 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Elwood W. Sterner, 64, of 119 W. Washington St., Fleetwood, Berks County, died Tuesday morning at home. Born in Port Clinton, he was a son of the late Lewis A. and Annie Henry Sterner. He had worked at Rockwell International for 28 years, retiring in 1995. He served as past director and lieutenant of Berks County Fire Police Association and was a former Boy Scout Leader for the Deer Lake troop. Surviving are his wife, the former Betty J. Hein; a daughter, Sandra J. Parks, Sinking Spring; three sons, Terry E., Tim L. and Trevor D., all of Fleetwood; four sisters, Clara Seltzer, Orwigsburg, Beatrice Baver, Deer Lake, and Erma Kamp and Gladys Purcell, both of New Ringgold; eight grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday from Mae E. Stump Funeral Home Inc., Fleetwood. Interment will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hettie Sterner (nee Heinrich), widow of Peter Sterner, died after a six-weeks' illness of general debility and apoplexy at the home of her son-in-law, Jacob Kuhns, at Phoenixville, aged 80 years. Deceased had been a resident of Topton up to the death of her husband, five years ago, since which time she resided at Phoenixville. Mrs. William Sanders, Sr., of Kutztown, is a sister of the deceased. The following children survive: Mrs. Jacob Kuhns, Mrs. Jacob Snyder and Jonas, of Phoenixville; Sylvester, of Allentown; Mrs. Henry Trexler, of Hancock; Mrs. Newton Grubb and Alfred, of Cleveland, O. The funeral will be held to-day. Services in St. Peter's Church, of Topton, after the arrival of the 10.58 train from Reading. Interment will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery. Rev. G. B. Smith, Reformed pastor, of Kutztown, will officiate.

Sterner, Hettie L. (nee Heffner)

Mrs. Hettie L. Sterner (nee Heffner), widow of Sylvester Sterner and a venerable resident of the 2nd ward, died of complications and ailments incident to old age at 1.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Allentown hospital. Mrs. Sterner had been confined to bed since March 29 and was admitted to the hospital for treatment on June 10. She was in her 75th year. Born in Berks county, a daughter of the late Nathan and Emeline (nee Heist) Heffner, she had lived in this city for the past half century. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church. Her husband preceded her in death by 32 years. Among her surviving relatives are two daughters, Ellen, wife of LeRoy Lichty, this city, and Mrs. Mildred Kindig, at home; together with four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Balliet, this city. Funeral services will be held at her late home, 137 S. Penn St., on Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. George Greiss officiating. Interment will be made in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call at the home on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.

Sterner, Isaac C.

Isaac C. Sterner, of this place, a Civil War veteran, answered the final bugle call Thursday morning at 5 o'clock at the Allentown Hospital in his seventy-first year. He was stricken with paralysis four weeks ago and on the following day he was removed to the hospital, where he has since lingered. Deceased was born in Longswamp, Berks county, and was a son of the late Samuel and Salome Sterner. His wife preceded him in death eight years ago. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W. C. Mullen, Allentown; on sister, Mrs. Amanda Snyder, Lansdale, and two brothers, Henry and David Sterner, of New Jersey. On Sept. 23, 1861, he enlisted in Co. D, Pennsylvania Independent Light Artillery, which was better known as Durrell's Battery, and served during the campaign until June, 1864, when he was honorably discharged. The funeral took place Monday, burial being made at St. Peter's church, Molltown. Rev. M. H. Brensinger officiated.

Larry L. Sterner Sr., 63, of 309 N. Sixth St., Hamburg, died Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown area, where he had been a patient since Saturday. Born in Hamburg, he was a son of the late Irvin J. and Bertha L. Budden Sterner. He was a 1955 graduate of Hamburg High School. He worked as a sales representative for 41 years for Behler Pattern Inc., Deer Lake, last working on Sept. 22. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hamburg, where he was a trustee and choir member, and was an organizer and director of Hamburg YMCA. Surviving are his wife, the former Shirley A. Huntsberger; two sons, Larry L. Jr., Hamburg, and Jeffrey L., Orwigsburg; two daughters, Tyndra C. Sterner, Maidencreek Township, Berks County, and Lori Ann Pinelli, Bristol; a brother, Irvin N., Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two sisters, Shirley J. Koralton, West Lawn, and Carol J. Dianna, Reading; nine grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday from Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamburg.

Sterner, Louisa (nee Heil)

Mrs. Louisa, nee Heil, Sterner, one of the oldest members of Huffs Reformed church, died Friday morning at her home, 207 N. 6th St., Emmaus, at the age of 88 years. Born in Hereford township, Berks county, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Lydia, nee Treichler, Heil. She was a member of the Reformed wing of Huffs church since childhood, and lived in Emmaus for the last 20 years. Surviving are two children, Mary Ann Sterner, at home, and Clinton O. Sterner, of Zionsville R. 1; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Henry R. Sterner, and a son, Clinton O. Sterner, both died in 1938. Rev. J. N. Blatt will officiate at short services Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Ritter and Buzby funeral home, 36-38 S. 5th St., Emmaus, with continued services in Huffs Reformed church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Sterner, Minnie (nee Day)

Mrs. Minnie (Day) Sterner, 53, of Rockland Township, Mertztown R. 1, died yesterday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Reading. She had been a patient there several weeks. A native of Rockland Township, she was a daughter of the late Jonas and Sarah (Reinert) Day. She was married to Raymond W. Sterner, who died in 1951. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the DeLong and Trexler Funeral Home, Topton.

Stertzler -- In Perry, October 1st, John Stertzler, aged 70 years, 7 months and 14 days.

Stetler, Gerald

A private funeral and burial were held for Gerald Stetler, 64, of Pennsburg, formerly of Gilbertsville, who died November 14 in Pennsburg Manor Nursing Home, where he had resided for the past seven years. Stetler was born in Washington Township. Surviving are a brother, LeRoy Stetler of Boyertown; and two sisters, Fern Hummer of Boyertown and Virginia Miller of Gilbertsville. He was predeceased by three sisters and a brother. The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home in Boyertown.

Stetley, Rachael (nee Heffner)

Rachael (Heffner), widow of Fred Setley, died on Tuesday at her home in Reading, aged 64 years. Surviving are a step-son, Nathan E. Setley, at home; three sisters, Ida, Reading; Annie, wife of John Keller, Reading, and Effie, wife of Frank Saul, Douglassville, and two brothers, Edwin, Mertztown, and Fred Heffner, Lyons.

Topton, Jan 29 – Andora (Kehm) wife of Herbert Stettler, 62, died yesterday, in her home on Haas St, this place. She was born in Fogelsville, Lehigh County, the daughter of the late William and Anna Maria (Confer) Kehm.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Irwin Barto, at home and Mrs Clifford Meck, this place; a sister, Mrs, William Merkel, of Breinigville R.D. and two brothers, David Kehm, of Allentown, and Wilson Kehm, of Breinigville R.D.

Funeral Services Tuesday at 1:30P.M. in the Schofer & Son Funeral Home, this place, the Rev. Robert A Laubach officiating. Internment in Maxatawny Cemetery.

Stettler, Carrie E. (nee Romig)

Mrs. Carrie E. Stettler, 84, of 922 Delaware Ave., Fountain Hill, died yesterday in St. Luke's Hospital. She was former supervising principal of Fountain Hill Borough Schools. Born in Mertztown, she was a daughter of the late George and Sallie (Haines) Romig. She was the widow of John Stettler. Mrs. Stettler was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Bethlehem. Surviving are a son Myron of Bethlehem; three daughters, Mrs. George Silfies, Allentown; Mrs. George Moitz of Cedar Grove, N.J.; and Mrs. Floyd Tompkins of Jenkintown; a brother, Will Romig, of Allentown; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Holy Trinity Church Chapel. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. today in the Daniel B. Snyder Funeral Home, 527 Center St., Bethlehem.

Stetzler, Lottie M.

Private services were arranged by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, for Lottie M. Stetzler, formerly of West Walnut Street, Kutztown, who died Feb. 24 in Kutztown Manor, where she had resided since June 20, 1994. Burial was in Zion Cemetery, Perry Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Luther D. Stetzler, who died July 3, 1985. Born in Maxatawny Township, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary E. (Biehl) Kline. She was a member of Becker's (St. Peter's) Lutheran Church, Molltown, where she was a former choir member and councilwoman. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Stevelton, Samuel

Topton’s oldest resident, Samuel Stevelton, a teamster for the Trexler Lumber Co. of this city for many years, died Thursday night at the home of his son, Milton A. Stevelton, 40 E. High St., Topton, at the age of 94. Mr. Stevelton, a former farm laborer and furnace worker, was employed by the Trexler company for a period of 18 years, but had been living retired for nearly 20 years. He was a member of Washington camp, No. 172, P.O.S. of A., of Topton. Born in Albany township, Berks county, he was a son of Samuel and Susanna Maurer Stevelton. He was married twice and was preceded in death by both wives, Catharine Sassaman Stevelton and Frederica Weaver Stevelton. Surviving besides his son Milton are five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m., D.S.T., at the DeLong funeral home, Topton. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Allentown.

Stevenson, Leslie Clinton

Leslie Clinton Stevenson, of this city, a sailor on the U.S.S. Chester, died in Austria as a result of diphtheria. Every effort was made to save his life, but without avail. His age was 19 years. Deceased was a son of George W. Stevenson. A year ago deceased and his brother William entered the navy. The latter was on the Tennessee. Several weeks ago while the latter was reading the naval news, printed by the government for the benefit of the sailors, he saw the mention of his brother's death. On reaching port he came to Reading and informed his parents. The body is to be brought to this city for interment. Deceased was at one time a bellboy at the Mansion House, was a member of the Olivet Club and a ball player of some note. The family formerly resided at 366 Greenwich street.

Stewart, Edward C.

A memorial service was held for Edward C. Stewart, 77, of Alta Loma, Calif., who died November 8 in a rehabilitation center in Colton, Calif. He was the husband of Mary J. (Schaeffer) Stewart. Born in Reading, Stewart was employed as a teacher at Boyertown High School and then DeAnza and Imperial Junior High Schools, Central Elementary School and Chaffey Junior College, all in Ontario, Calif. He also served as assistant prinicpal at Lehigh Elementary School and principal at Cypress and Edison elementary schools, all in Ontario. Stewart was a 1943 graduate of Reading High School and an alumunus of Kutztown State Teacher's College. He received a master's degree in school administration from California State College, Los Angeles. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Naval Reserves during the Korean War. He was a member of King of Gloria Lutheran Church, Alta Loma. He is also survived by three sons: Edward C., California; Alan, Reading; and Gregory, State College. Other survivors include two stepdaughters, Mindy (Paul) Gill and Robin Paul, both of Alto Loma. Also a sister and a brother; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The arrangements were handled by the Cucamonga Mortuary, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Stewart, Emma (nee Levin)

Emma Stewart, 92, formerly of Reading, died June 4 at 11 p.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township, where she had been a patient for three weeks. Her husband, Gordon M. Stewart, died in 1994. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Schoenfeld) Levin. Stewart was the co-owner of Office Service Co., Reading, for 25 years. She is survived by two nephews. Services will be private. Private burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Fleetwood. Henninger Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Stewart, Kenneth Lee

A memorial service will be scheduled for Kenneth Lee Stewart, 60, of Weavertown Road in Douglassville, who died April 1 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading, where he had been a patient. He was the widower of Margaret Ellen (Snyder) Stewart. Born in Reading, Stewart worked as a foundryman for Precision Casting Technology in Douglassville. He retired in 2000. During the Vietnam War, Stewart served in the Marine Corps. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Stewart is survived by a daughter, Lisa A. Thompson of Boyertown; one stepson, Charles H. Reinert of Dover, York County; one stepdaughter, Roberta L. Oxenford of Amity; one brother, Rob J. Stewart of Amity; one sister, Marie L. Stewart of Amity; and eight grandchildren. The arrangements were handled by the Dengler Funeral Home, Birdsboro.

Stichter, Mary L.

The remains of Mary L., daughter of William and Alice STICHTER, 434 Linden, were interred in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. They were attired in white, and lay in a white plush casket. Services were conducted at the house by Rev. F. K. HUNTZINGER. Among the tributes were wax bouquets from Mr. and Mrs. HILLER, Mr. and Mrs. LONG, Mr. and Mrs. BRACHO, Mr. and Mrs. OTTO, Mamie HORN, and C. BRACHO; bouquets of natural flowers from Louise, Edward, George, Mamie and Sadie BEADENCUP. Funeral director, Francis F. SEIDEL.

Wernersville, Sept. 19, 1946 - Eva Ann (Brossman), 82, widow of Richard Stief, of 36 West Penn Ave., this borough, died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Reading. She was a daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Huntzinger) Brossman. Surviving are three sons and seven daughters, Robert and Wilson Stief, of Reading; Frank Stief of Wyomissing; Alva, wife of William Cox, of this place; Mrs. Florence West, of West Lawn; Eva, wife of Evan Gearhart, of Philadelphia; Mabel, at home; Sadie, wife of Miles Moyer of Laureldale; Rose, wife of Paul Fisher of Reading; Laura, wife of Howard Seip, of Ephrata; 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a brother, Charles Brossman, of Sinking Spring; six sisters, Mrs. Sarah Klopp of Reinholds; Mrs. Ida George of Reading; Mrs. Emma Himmelberger; Lizzie, wife of Simon Heffley and Mrs. Annie Leininger, all of Robesonia; Alice, wife of Howard Leibensperger, of Reading. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Lamm Funeral Home, this place, the Rev. Ralph E. Starr officiating. Interment in Hain's Church Cemetery.

Stimmel, Charles

A CHARITABLE ACT; The Stricken Stimmel Family in Engelsville Receives Kind Assistance. ONE OF THE SONS DIED; The Other Members of the Family Now Expected To Recover. Money, Provisions, Clothing and A Nurse Sent to Their Help Another beautiful illustration of the charitable disposition of the Boyertown people was given in the case of the stricken STIMMEL family at Engelsville last Monday. The distress of this family was briefly told in last week's Democrat. The father, mother and four children were down with typhoid fever, with no one to nurse them. Dr. L. K. FRANCIS, the family physician, first made the facts public. On Sunday morning and evening collections were taken in Pastor FREEMAN's Reformed Church, which amounted to $31. The Lutheran Ladies Aid sent bedding and other articles and the Reformed Missionary Society sent several changes of underwear for each member of the family. A purse was then made up and a nurse was engaged from the Pottstown hospital to nurse the family. Several women also went there and thoroughly cleaned the house, which was in a horrible condition through the neglect and inability of the mother to take care of things. A collection was also taken up in Dunn's Cigar factory for the sick family; and the P. O. S. of A. collected $5 on Monday evening for the family. On Tuesday afternoon, Charles [STIMMEL], who was first taken sick, died. The remains were taken to a vault in Fairview Cemetery, on account of the remaining sick in the house. Had it not been for the prompt assistance of the charitable people of Boyertown, the whole family would evidently have perished from sheer neglect. The burial of the son took place yesterday. The remains were interred in Union Cemetery. There were no funeral services and no one attended the corpse to the grave except the undertaker, and a few others who assisted in the burial. As soon as the family is able to be out again a special funeral service will be held. The other family members are doing well at last report.

Stine, Arlan R.

Services were held Thursday in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg for Arlan R. Stone of Hamburg. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. Stone died of natural causes March 7 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Feb. 22. He was the husband of Joanna E. (Swanger) Stine. Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Raymond S. and Mabel I. (Smith) Stine. Stine was a 1963 graduate of Hamburg High School. Stine was employed for 30 years by Parish Structural Products Division of Dana Corp., Reading, as a tow motor operator, last working in 1993. He then started Stine's Mower Service, Shartlesville, which he operated until 2003. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hamburg. He was a trustee of the Shartlesville Fish & Game Association. Stine is also survived by a daughter, Julie A. Stine, Hamburg; and a son, Matthew A., Perry Township. Other survivors include three stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandsons.

Stine, Emma Sarah

Services were held for Emma Sarah (Schweitzer) Stine, 89, widow of Paul Fletcher Stine, of Exeter, formerly of Robeson, who died July 24 in the Beverly Manor in Exeter, where she resided for two years. Born in Beckersville, she worked as a full-fashion seamer for the Berkshire Knitting Mills in Wyomissing for 10 years, retiring in 1988. She also worked as a salesperson at the Farmers' Market in Reading from 1956 to 1986. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Gibraltar. Surviving is a daughter, Joyce E. Hall of Tequesta, Fla.; one sister; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Gibraltar. The Dengler Funeral Home, Birdsboro, handled the arrangements.

Stine, Margaret K. Berger

Services were held in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Margaret K. Berger Stine, who died Aug. 6 in her Main Street, Shartlesville residence. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Township. She was the wife of Robert K. Stine. She was predeceased by her first husband, Joel Berger, who died Nov. 1, 1961. Born in Auburn, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter, of the late William and Alice (Condon) Auman. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. Also surviving are a daughter, Pamela A. (Berger) Heckman, Upper Bern Township, and a son, Garry W. Berger, Hale, Mo. Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Kelly Ann (Stine) Hoyer, Blandon, and a stepson, David W. Stine, in Texas. There are also nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include two sisters, Francis (Auman) Brossman, Auburn, and Bette (Auman) Schaeffer, Schuylkill Haven.

Stinnard, Claudia M.

Funeral services were held for Claudia M. Stinnard, 61, of Boyertown Pike in Exeter, who died May 12 in St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading. Stinnard was born in West Reading and graduated from Exeter High School. She was employed for several years as a cutter for Osan Manufacturing in Boyertown. Surviving are two sons, David A. Stinnard of New Berlinville and Scott A. Stinnard of Boyertown; one daughter, Christina A. Miner of Boyertown; and six grandchildren. Burial was in Schwarzwald Cemetery in Jacksonwald. The Lutz Funeral Home, Mt. Penn, handled the arrangements.

Private funeral services were held for Charlotte M. (Myers) Stiteler, 80, of Red Hill, who died January 12 in Grand View Hospital in Sellersville. She was the widow of Raymond J. Stiteler. Born in Sassamansville, she was a lifetime resident of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. She worked as a materials handler for the Sunset Manufacturing Co. in Pottstown for 10 years, retiring in 1985. Previously she worked for the Paragon Bag Co. in Zieglerville. Surviving are three daughters, Marie A. Ott of Schwenksville, Sandra A. Haas of Pennsburg and Carol D. Bossert of East Greenville. Also a sister, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer-Society, 700 Horizon Circle, Suite 201, Chalfont, PA 18914. Burial was in Limerick Garden of Memories. The arrangements were handled by the Monaghan Funeral Home, Red Hill.

Charlotte M. Stiteler, 80, of Red Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville. Funeral services were held Jan. 15. Interment was in Limerick Garden of Memories, of Limerick. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Stiteler for 25 years. Born in Sassamansville, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and the late Annie Badman Myers. She worked as a materials handler for 10 years at the Sunset Manufacturing Company in Pottstown, retiring in 1985. She previously worked for 30 years at the Paragon Bag Company in Zieglerville. She is survived by: three daughters, Marie M. Ott, of Schwenksville, Sandra A. Haas, of Pennsburg and Carol D. Bossert, of East Greenville; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Vera Kulp, of Pennsburg.
