Enos Sicher, a well-known resident of these parts, departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at his home near Macungie, after a brief illness of lobar pneumonia. He had, however, been unwell for several years and unable to work. He brought his age to 73 years, 10 months and 5 days. Deceased was a native of Rockland, Berks county, his parents having been Jacob Sicher and his wife, Eliza, a born Fegely. He was a hard-working, industrious man and generally respected. He moved to near town in 1877 and was employed at the ore wharves and on various jobs until the frailties of his body prevented further labor. His wife, Sarah, a born Reimert, also of Berks county, three sons, Charles, of Coplay; Frank, of Allentown, and Aaron, of Philadelphia, and one daughter, Kate, married to Edwin David, of Minesite, 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren as also one brother, Martin, of Monterey, Berks county, survive. Two sons preceded the father in death. Besides being a useful and honorable citizen in time of peace, he served his country in her trouble during the civil strife. His war record is as follows: He enlisted Aug. 25, 1864, from Berks county, Pa., and was mustered into service as a private to serve one year, or during the war, in Company G, 198th Regt. Penn'a Vol. Inf., under the command of Capt. Wm. L. Guinther and Col. H. G. Sickel. The regiment was assigned to the First Brigade, 1st Division, 5th Corps, Army of the Potomac, and he shared the fortunes of the regiment in all its movements and engagements, including the battles of People's Farm, Sept. 30, 1864, raid on Southside Railroad, October 27, 1864, Weldon Railroad, December 6, 1864, Hatcher's Run, Feb. 8, 1865, White Oak Swamps, March 31, 1865, Five Forks, April 1, 1865, and Appomatox, April 9, 1865, where Lee surrendered. While going from Petersburg to Richmond he was injured by a mule falling on him, dislocating his right hip. On June 3, 1865, he was honorably discharged in camp near Washington, D.C., at the close of the war. The funeral was held on Tuesday, services being held in Solomon's Reformed Church, deceased having been a member of the congregation. Pastor J. J. Schaeffer officiated. Interment was made in the family plot in Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sicher, Susan Rebecca (nee Fenstermacher)

Susan Rebecca, nee Fenstermacher, wife of Harvey M. Sicher, died at 8:45 o�clock last night at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lazurie, at the Henningville hotel, Alburtis, R.D. She was in her 68th year. Mrs. Sicher was a Gold Star Mother and the Ray Master post of the American Legion at Topton was named in honor of her son, who paid the supreme sacrifice in the World War. She was a daughter of the late Jacob and Emma (Hammes) Fenstermacher. For many years she was a faithful member of Christ Reformed (DeLongs) church of Bowers. She was affiliated with the Ladies� auxiliary Topton American Legion post and the War Mothers of Reading. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lewis Lazurie, Alburtis R.D., and Mrs. Francis Spotts, Topton, and one son, Ralph C., Mertztown R.D., together with eight grandchildren, and one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Caroline Rhode and Jacob and Edwin Fenstermacher, all of Topton, and John Fenstermacher, of Laureldale. Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed last night.

Siegfried, Henry Alfred

While engaged in his duties in the office of the charcoal iron plant of the Reading Iron Company, Kutztown road, where he was employed as a bookkeeper, Henry Alfred Siegfried, aged 67, late of 126 South Fifth street, suffered a heart attack and died soon afterwards. Coroner Ammarell issued a certificate of death due to the cause mentioned.

Deceased had been in the employ of the Reading Iron Company for a number of years. He was unmarried. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Maxatawny Union Church, Vigilance Lodge, No. 194, I.O.O.F., Cordon Club, a social organization affiliated with the Odd Fellows, and the Reading Iron Company Relief Association.

Surviving are one brother, Jeremiah O. Siegfried, of Norristown, and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Catharine Kutz, Kutztown; and Mrs. Alice Stein, Allentown. Services and interment will take place at Maxatawny. Funeral Director Seidel is in charge of the arrangements.

Siegfried, Henry Alfred

Siegfried--In this city, on the 27th inst., Henry Alfred Siegfried, aged 67 years, 8 months and 26 days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral, without further notice, from the residence of his sister, Mrs. Ellen C. Kutz, 467 East Main Street, Kutztown, Friday at 1:45, Daylight Saving Time, at the house. Services in Maxatawny Union Church. Interment in Maxatawny Cemetery. Remains can be viewed at F.F. Seidel's Chapel, 117 North Fifth Street, Wednesday evening.

Siegfried, Rhea M.

Services were held. in Zion's Union Church for Rhea M. Seigfried of Maxatawny Township. She died March 11 in the in-patient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, where she had been a patient four days. Burial was in Zion (Maxatawny) Union Cemetery. Her husband, Ray E. Siegfried, died Sept. 29, 1977. Born in Oley Township, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Beulah (Prutzman) Knabb. She graduated in 1942 from Kutztown High School. Siegfried was employed for more than 30 years as a lay-out operator by AT&T, Reading Works, Muhlenberg Township, retiring in 1985. Siegfried was a member of the reformed congregation of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny Township, where she served on the consistory for more than 12 years. Surviving is a son, Ronald R., Easton. There are also two grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, John Knabb, Maxatawny Township, and Alfred Knabb, New Ringgold, Schuylkill County; and two sisters, June (Knabb) Bruno, Kutztown, and Eleanor (Knabb) Sechler, Strausstown. Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., Kutztown, was in charge of arrangements.

Siegfried, William H.

William H. Siegfried, Kutztown, died Thursday at the Sacred Heart hospital, Allentown, in his 71st year. He was born Jan. 20, 1872, son of the late William and Mary Ellen, nee Hoch, Siegfried of Maxatawny township. Surviving are his wife Ella, nee Croll, Siegfried; one brother, Edwin of Kutztown; two sisters, Sallie H. Siegfried, Kutztown R. 1 and Ella, widow of Charles Hillegass of Pennsburg. Funeral services will be held from his late home, 136 Normal Ave., Kutztown, Monday at 2 p.m. Interment will be made in Hope cemetery, Kutztown.

Siesholtz, Adam

Adam Siesholtz, a well-known resident of the Twelfth Ward, died Thursday evening at the Samaritan Hospital, Philadelphia, following an operation for cancer. The deceased had been ailing for a year and a half with cancer and was removed to the hospital at Philadelphia for an operation on Monday. He was operated upon yesterday afternoon and passed away last evening. The deceased was a son of the late David and Sarah Siesholz and was born at Siesholtzville, September 6th, 1859. Prior to his removal to this city, eight years ago, he resided at Harlem, Berks county. He was a member of the local lodge, P.O.S. of A., and the Knights of the Golden Eagle. He was married twice, his first wife, Diana Gregory, preceding him in death several years ago. To this union seven children were born, six of which survive, as follows: Gertrude, Mamie, Florence, Herbert, of the Twelfth ward, and Calvin, of Allentown. His second wife, Lydia Heydt, survives with these children: Peter, of the Twelfth ward, and Mrs. Alice Kemp, of Landis Store, Berks County. These brothers and sisters also survive: Abraham, Jacob, Mrs. Amanda Benfield and Mrs. Ellen Hunter, of Huff�s church; Mrs. Sallie Moyer, of Yellow House, Berks county, and Mrs. Cassie Gerhardt, of Boyertown. Funeral services will be held at his late home, No. 1010 South Ninth street, on Monday evening at 8 o�clock. Rev. J. W. Koch will officiate. The remains will be removed to Huff�s Church on Tuesday, where regular services and interment will be made.

Siesholtz, Sarah

Sarah, wife of David G. Siesholtz, the well known farmer residing near Siesholtzville, died on Monday, from a complication of ills, in her sixty-fourth year. She was a born Yeakel. Seventeen children were born to them, of whom eleven survive, nearly all residing at home. She was an industrious woman, a good mother and friend. The funeral will take place on Saturday, with services at the house and afterwards in Huff Church. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining. Rev. Dr. J. A. Singmaster, of Gettysburg, and Rev. O. R. Frantz will officiate.

Sievert, Ralph T.

Services were held in Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Ralph T. Sievert, 91, of Dreibelbis Station Road, Greenwich Township, who died Feb. 25 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient two days. Burial was in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Township. He was predeceased by his wife, Blanch C. (Cooley) Sievert, who died Dec. 12, 1994. Born in Chicago, he was a son of the late Theodore and Lucinda (Rolf) Sievert. Until retiring in 1976, he was employed as a product representative by General Motors Corp., Detroit, for 21 years. Surviving are three sons: Theodore A. Sievert, Morton Grove, Ill.; Ralph T. Sievert, Greenwich Township; and David E. Sievert, Fleetwood. There are also 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Sigal, Michael R.

Among the local survivors of Michael R. Sigal, 74, Exeter Township, who died Nov. 28 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Nov. 16, is a brother, Gerald Sigal, Greenfields.

Sigal, Michael R.

Services were held for Michael R. Sigal, 74, of Gerhart Lane, Exeter Township, who died November 28 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Friedmann) Sigal. Born in Bethlehem, Sigal was vice president for three years of Diamond Brothers Furniture Store and the owner and chief executive officer of Applied Moldings Inc., Reading, from 1968 until his retirement in 1979. He was a graduate of Bethlehem High School, and the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree in architecture. Sigal was a past president of the University Rifle Club, Exeter Township. He is also survived by two sons, Phillip A., Chicago, and Andrew C., Exeter Township; and two daughters, Catherine N. Sigal, Napa, Calif., and Flora B. (Sigal) Spector, Exeter Township. Also one stepson, Willard D. Dennis, Moorestown, N.J.; one stepdaughter, Sara K. (Dennis) Zizza, Temple. Other survivors include two brothers, four grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. The Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn, was in charge of the arrangements.

Sigman--In this city, on the 26th inst., Mrs. Margaret Sigman, wife of Abraham Sigman, dec'd, formerly of Easton, PA, in the 88th year of her age. Services at the house, 519 Franklin street on Monday morning at 9 1/2 o'clock, before leaving for Easton, where the interment will take place. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.

Simmons, Annie

Simmons, John R.

Services were held in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, for John R. Simmons, who died Feb. 23 in his New Schaefferstown Road, Jefferson Township residence. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery, New Schaefferstown. He was the husband of Elda M. (Schlegel) Simmons. Born in Hampshire County, W. Va., he was a son of the late Boyd and Evalona (Brooks) Simmons. Until retiring in 1980, he was last employed as a molder by Empire Steel Castings Inc., Laureldale, for 25 years. He was also a self-employed farmer in Penn Township. Simmons was a life member of the Millcreek Rod & Gun Club, Lebanon County. Also surviving are a son, Winston F. Simmons, West Reading; a daughter, Shirley C. (Simmons) Ritter, Womelsdorf; and three grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Owen Simmons, Salisburg, N.C., and a sister, Myrtle (Simmons) Long, Alexandria, Va.

Simons Sr., Franklin

Franklin H. Simons Sr., 82, retired owner of a city business, died May 23 at 1:57 p.m. in his Wyomissing residence. His wife, Antoinette (Damario) Simons, died March 1, 1996. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Floyd B. and Katie (Stricker) Simons. Simons was co-owner and operator of Advance Motors, Reading, for 42 years, retiring in 1986. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Simons was a life member of the Junior Fire Company, Reading. He is survived by a son, Franklin H. Jr., Muhlenberg Township, and a daughter, Loretta A. Simons, Wyomissing. There are also two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Auman Funeral Homes, Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale.

Singer, Mary

Mrs. Mary Singer, wife of Cyrus Singer, died near Plow, Berks county, on Tuesday morning after a brief illness of pneumonia, aged 63 years. She is survived by her husband and the following brothers and sisters: George Griffith, of Veronia, N.J.; Milton, of Allentown; Thomas, of Lebanon; Frank, of Sadsburyville; Annie, wife of Edward Weaver, of Terre Hill. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Sinitsky, Helen

Helen Sinitsky, 76, of 131 E. Adamsdale Road, Orwigsburg, died Thursday morning at Laurel Nursing Home, Hamburg, where she lived for more than two years. Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late John and Justine Horbal Shemella. She lived in Schuylkill County most of her life. She was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, Orwigsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Auxiliary, Orwigsburg American Legion Post Auxiliary, Schuylkill and Berks County Crafters Guild, New Ringgold Senior Citizens and Pennsylvania Farmers Association. Her husband, Michael, died in 1984. Surviving are two daughters, Joan Decker, Quarryville, and Patti Geiger, Mohrsville; a son, Michael, Orwigsburg; two grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Church, Schuylkill Haven. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, is in charge of arrangements.

Skean, William J.

William J. "Buck" Skean, former Muhlenberg football player, who resided at Kenhorst, Reading, died Saturday in the Reading hospital. He was aged 43 years. Mr. Skean played football at Muhlenberg college in the 1921, 1922 and 1923 seasons, under Coaches Johnny Spiegel and "Punk" Wood, filling a guard position. He graduated with the class of 1924. He was born in Pottstown, a son of the late Horace and Anna, nee Geisinger, Skean. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn, nee Smith, Skean; a daughter, Barbara, at home; and these brothers and sisters: Albert "Buck" Skean, who played at Muhlenberg under Coach Kelly and who is now head of the bureau of conventions at Atlantic City; Edna, wife of Russell Proppes, Pottstown; Blanche, wife of Wallace Smith, Camden, N.J.; Horace and Daniel Skean, Pottstown. His first wife, Edna, nee Burgess, Skean, a sister to Mrs. Paul Weston of Allentown, died in 1935. Mr. Skean had been employed at the Doehler Dye Casting Co. in Pottstown. He was a member of the Reformed faith. Mr. Skean was a member of the ATO fraternity at Muhlenberg. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kuhn funeral home in W. Reading. Rev. Thomas W. Rhode will officiate. Interment will be in Mr. Zion cemetery, Pottstown.

Skinner, Deborah L.

Deborah L. (Price) Skinner, 51, Kenhorst, died of natural causes May 12 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for 19 days. She was the wife of Steven M. Skinner Sr. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William L. and Fannie (Price) Evans. Skinner had been employed for 17 years as a welder by Arrow International, last working in 2004. She was a member of the Church of Deliverance, Reading. Skinner is also survived by two daughters, Ashley S. Price and Jade M. Price, and three sons: Davon M. Price, Maurice M. Price and Steven M. Skinner Jr., all of Reading. Other survivors include three sisters: Carol (Evans) Wilson, Lancaster; Evelyn (Evans) Ragin, New York City; and Diane Evans, Winston-Salem, N.C., and six brothers: Nathaniel Price, Boston; Curtis Price, Reading; and William Price, David Evans, Gary Evans and Clinton Evans, all of Lancaster. There are also 10 grandchildren Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Auman Funeral Homes, Reading. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.

Slonaker, John A.

A memorial service was held for John A. Slonaker, 67, husband of Nancy J. (Gehris) Slonaker of Reifsnyder Road in New Hanover, who died February 5 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Frederick, he worked on the family dairy farm in Frederick until he retired in 1996. For 12 years, he also owned a dairy farm in Troy, Bradford County. He was a member of New Hanover United Methodist Church in Gilbertsville. He was a life member of the Sassamansville and Gilbertsville Fire Companies. Surviving in addition to his wife of 39 years are a son, Timothy Cartmell of Bechtelsville; a brother, Leroy Slonaker of Boyertown; two sisters, Pearl Fisher of Sumneytown and Anna Jane Landis of Huff's Church; and four grandchildren. Contributions may be made to New Hanover United Methodist Church, 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA 19525. The arrangements were handled by the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.

Slonaker, Noel R.

Noel R. Slonaker, 75, Reading, a retired social studies teacher and basketball coach, died June 10 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since May 31. His wife, June A. (Sterner) Slonaker, died March 24, 2002. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Noel S. and Florence G. (Brown) Slonaker. Slonaker had been employed for 36 years as a social studies teacher, first by the Oley Valley School District, then by the Muhlenberg School District, where he worked 28 years, retiring in 1993. While at both districts, Slonaker was junior high boys basketball coach. He was a 1947 graduate of Muhlenberg High School; a 1958 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College; and received his master's degree in political science from Temple University, Philadelphia. Slonaker was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth R., Reading, and Brad R., Altoona, Blair County. There are also three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah L. (Slonaker) Weik, on May 3. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Slote, Lydia

MRS. LYDIA SLOTE, daughter of the late Henry and Lydia Beecher Redcay, and widow of the late Wm. Slote, passed to her eternal reward on December 6, 1936, aged 84 years. She was received into St. Luke's Church, Shillington, Pa., on February 14, 1917, by certificate from the First Church, Reading. Her husband preceded her in death on May 26, 1928. She leaves to mourn their loss one son, Harry Slote, with whom she resided, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many friends. These have the Christian hope of meeting her again in the home of the saints. Smink, Richard Erastus

Richard Erastus Smink, son of Reuben Smink, residing in the rear of 929 Penn, died on Sunday morning aged 17 years. He had been in poor health for sometime and death was caused by typhoid fever. Deceased was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and St. Barnabas Brotherhood. Two brothers and 1 sister, Arthur Leon, Cyrus and Mrs. Sarah Acker survive.

Smith, A.H.

A.H. Smith, 82, president of the National Bank of Topton and active member of county and state banking circles died at 2:30 p.m. yesterday at his residence in Topton. Born in Middleburg, Snyder county, he was the son of the late James and Cinderella (Grabel) Smith. He helped to organize the National Bank of Topton on May 15, 1906, and was the first cashier and president from 1930 up to the time of his death. He was also the former president of the Berks county Bankers Assn., and in 1940 was a delegate to the Democratic National convention in Chicago. Prior to coming to Topton, he edited a weekly newspaper at Middleburg and established the Elizabethville Echo, which is still being published. He was also the first cashier of the Lykens Valley bank in Elizabethville. Mr. Smith was a member of Trinity Lutheran church of Topton, having served on the church council for many years; Huguenot lodge No. 377, Kutztown; Reading Consistory; Rajah Temple of Reading and served as the treasurer of the Topton Building and Loan Assn. for several years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary (Sheetz) Smith; three daughters, Mildred, wife of William Sallade, Williamsport; Margaret, wife of C. Harold Norddy, Philadelphia; Jean, wife of Ralph Morgan, Canton, O.; one son, J. Park Smith, cashier of the National Bank of Topton; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hassinger, Camp Hill; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Smith Jr., Albert B.

Funeral services were held for Albert B. Smith Jr., 75, husband of Pearl V. (Walter) Smith, of Knoll Lane, Gilbertsville, who died June 17 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Lansdale, Smith worked as a heat treater for J. W. Rex Co. in Lansdale for 32 years, retiring in 1990. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Smith was a life member of the Forest Lodge Association in Sellersville and a life member of the West End Fire Co. in Stowe. Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years are two daughters, Linda A. Schroeder of Stowe and Patricia H. Oehlert of Boyertown. Also two brothers, William B. Smith of Salford and Earl B. Services for Calvin B. Smith, 89, of 321 E. Broad St., Quakertown, will be held Wednesday at 11 A.M. in the A.W. Treffinger & Son Funeral Home, Quakertown. Burial will follow in St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ Cemetery, Wernersville. The Rev. Paul Stoudt will officiate. Mr. Smith, who died Saturday in the Zohlmann Nursing Home, Richlandtown, was born in Lebanon County. A son of Reuben and Emma (Becker) Smith, he was predeceased in 1939 by his wife, Katie E. (Koller) Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of First United Church of Christ, Quakertown, and of Camp 99, Patriotic Order of Sons of America, Wernersville and Coopersburg Lodge 390, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is survived by a son, Orlando of Lansdale, and a daughter, Mrs. Margueritte Lindes, Quakertown. Also five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two brothers: Howard of Reading and Charles of Robesonia.

Services were held in the Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Catherine J. Smith, 57, First Street Extension, Tilden Township, who died of natural causes Dec. 28 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since Dec. 12. Burial was in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Township. She was the wife of Donald L. Smith. Born in Shenandoah Heights, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Dorothy M. (Shistel) Moyer. Until retiring Dec. 23, 1994, she was employed as a nurse's aide at the Hamburg Center for 28 years. She was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township. Also surviving are two daughters, Kaylynn Smith, Hamburg, and Donelle L. Smith, Tilden Township, and one granddaughter. Other survivors include two sisters, Earlene C. Smith, Claire E.

Claire E. Smith, 73, of 5 Aspen Ave., South Heidelberg Township, Berks County, formerly of 621 Pierce St., Pottsville, died Saturday evening at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading. Born in Pine Grove, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Bessie Sattizhan Zerbe. She was a 1949 graduate of Pine Grove High School and a 1952 graduate of the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing. She was a seamstress for Cressona Knit Products for many years until retiring in February 2003. Preceding her in death was her husband, Albert J., in April 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth E. Smith, with whom she last resided; a brother, Earl Zerbe, Rehrersburg. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.

Cora M. Smith, 86, widow of Morris Smith, died Wednesday at noon in her residence at 36 W. Ruth St., Robesonia. Born in Heidelberg Township, she was a daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth (Wenrich) Boyer. Her husband died in 1947. A member of the Robesonia Sernior Citizens' Club, she is survived by two daughters: Luella J., widow of Ernest L. Klopp, with whom she last resided, and Leona M., wife of Carl V. Stoltz, Robesonia. Also a grandson, two great-granddaughters and a sister, Mary, wife of Fred Moyer, Robesonia, and a brother, William Boyer, Bernville R.D.1. Services will be held Monday morning at 10 in the Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Wernersville. The Rev. James B. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Daniel's Church Cemetery, Robesonia.

Smith, Clinton S.

Allentown. July 28.-In the early seventies many adventurous Lehigh countians made their way westward to play an important part in the development of the Middle West. Some went to Ohio, others to Indiana, and a group went to Nebraska. Many of them became the leading citizens of the communities in which they settled, but few attained the prominence and position enjoyed by Clinton S. Smith, born in the upper end of Lehigh county the son of J.H. and Catherine (Kistler) Smith, who died in Madison, Neb. after having served the town as councilman, mayor, and the county as sheriff for 22 years.

W.P. Moyer, of 1522 Linden street, this city, a cousin, is in receipt of a Specia1 supplement of the Madison-Star Mail, which records the passing of Mr. Smith.

Among the local survivors of Donald R. Smith, of Reading, who died June 9 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient since May 27, is a half sister, Nema S. (Schell) Engle, Kutztown.

Smith, Edna M.

Edna M. Smith, 93, of Richlandtown, previously of Quakertown, passed away peacefully June 17, 2003 in Phoebe Richland Care Center, Richlandtown. She was the wife of the late Allen H. Smith. Born in Milford Square, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Lizzie (Cope) Schoch. She was a clerk for a number of years at Sines 5 & 10, Quakertown, and had also worked at a shirt factory in Quakertown a number of years. She graduated with the Class of 1928 from Quakertown High School. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quakertown. She is survived by three sons, Allen R., of Quakertown, Robert J. of Sellersville, and Ronald J. of Englewood, Fla.; three daughters, Doris Hieter, Lucille M. Hance and Betty B. Bright, all of Quakertown; 13 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ellen Jean, a grandson, Thomas Hance and a sister, Pauline Shoemaker. Services were held June 20. Arrangements: Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral Home Inc. 20 N. Smith, Ella B.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon for Ella B. (Butts) Smith, 50 South Reading Avenue, mother-in-law of Charles F. Wentzel, publisher of the Boyertown Times.

The daughter of William Penn and Mary Jane (Bright) Butts, she was the widow of Elmer C. Smith, former publisher of the Boyertown Times, who predeceased her in 1942.

She was a lifelong resident of Reading until 1935 when the family moved to Boyertown.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia, wife of Ira M. Ruth, Glenside and Olga, wife of Charles F. Wentzel, Boyertown; two grandchildren, Lois and David F. Ruth, Glenside, both students of Syracuse University, Syracuse, N. Y. She was the last of her immediate family.

Services will be at two o'clock this afternoon in the Ott Funeral Home, the Rev. Byron W. Sheetz, Reading officiating. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.

Smith, Emma E. (nee Ziegler)

Mrs. Emma E., nee Ziegler, widow of Alfred G. Smith, died last night at the home of her son, George A. Smith, 194 North Broad street, Nazareth, with whom she resided for the past three years. Mrs. Smith was born at Farmington, Pa., on November 7, 1855, a daughter of Jonathan and Aquilla, nee Richards, Ziegler. She lived in the section where she was born all her life until she moved to Nazareth three years ago and was a member of the Reformed parish of Zion Union church, Maxatawny, of which Rev. George B. Smith is pastor. There survive two sons, Charles, Allentown, and George, Nazareth, and four grandchildren, Richard and Carl Beck and Dorothy and Elsie Smith, all of Reading. A brother, Albert Ziegler, of Allentown, also survives. Short services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock daylight saving time at the home of her son, George A. Smith, Nazareth, with continued services in Maxatawny Zion Union church and interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Smith, Ethel A.

Ethel A. Smith, 92, a resident of Phoebe Berks Village, Wernersville, since September 1991, formerly of Reading, died Aug. 29 at 12:15 a.m. in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center Inc., Wernersville. Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Christman) Pearson. Smith was employed as a bench worker by Western Electric Co., Muhlenberg Township retiring in 1978. She was a professional artist in the Reading area for 40 years. Smith was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Reading. Surviving are two daughters, Fern A. and Barbara L. Smith, both of Reading. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the John P. Feeney Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.

Among the local survivors of Evelyn E. (Dattner) Smith, who died May 9 in her Ocean City, N.J. residence, is a daughter, Charlene M. (Smith) Weiser, Blandon.

Smith, Ezekiah

The sad intelligence was received here of the shocking death of Ezekiah Smith, of Reading, formerly of Emmaus. He was a carpenter and desiring to descend from a factory building where he worked, by means of a pulley rope, he got the wrong rope and fell to the ground, a distance of eighteen feet. He also fell against some projection and was instantly killed. Mr. Smith was married to the oldest daughter of Elanius Acker, of near this place, who, with his other daughter, Mrs. Byron Carl, went to Reading on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Smith has been very sickly for some years and this sudden shock is therefore doubly hard to bear. They had no children themselves but had adopted the son of a relative. Mr. Smith's mother resides with another son, Charles, near East Texas. Deceased was aged about 35 years. He was esteemed by many friends and his sudden death is greatly deplored.

Smith, Franklin F.

Services were held in the Pancoast Funeral Home, Vineland, N.J., for Franklin F. Smith of Newfield, N.J., formerly of Topton, who died March 6. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Newfield. He was the husband of Mary Smith. Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Dr. Charles and Esther Smith. Smith was a Kutztown High School graduate and a 1936 Civil Engineer graduate of Penn State University. He was later licensed as a Professional Engineer. Until his retirement, Smith was employed by Owens-Illinois Kimble Glass Co. in Vineland, N.J. He continued working after retirement for Elton Iron, Vineland, until the age of 80. Smith was recognized for more than 50 years of service to the Newfield Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Newfield, serving as club secretary for 22 years. He was also a member of the Vineland Masonic Lodge 69 F. & A.M. As a Penn State football fan, he joined fellow South Jersey Penn State alumni at pregame tailgates. Smith was a member of Christ Community Church, Newfield. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Smith) Williamson, Pottstown. There are three grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, A.L. (Smith) Cooke, Wernersville. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles W. Smith. Smith, George R.

Falling from a wagon on the farm of Clinton Snyder, at Maple Grove, near Alburtis, George R. Smith suffered a broken neck, death following almost immediately. He was aged 59 years, 1 month and 26 days. Deceased was a son of Martin and Catherine, nee Reidnauer, Smith, and was born in Hereford township, Berks county. He was married to Mary Ann Jacobs, February, 1891. For the past twelve years, he has been a faithful employe of the Thomas Iron Company. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Gerhart, of Eschbachs, and Mrs. Ralph Heller, of Emaus; also five grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Anthony Smith, of Bechtelsville; Reuben Smith and Miss Andora Smith, of Easton; Mrs. Oliver Eck, of Birdsboro; and Mrs. David Steele and Mrs. Jacob Fenstermaker, of Alburtis. The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 5th, at 10 a.m. from his late home, Lockridge, Alburtis, with short services at the house followed by further services and interment at the Lehigh church. Rev. C. A. Kerschner, of Allentown, will officiate.

Smith, Hamburg, and Polly A. (Smith) Schneider, Pottsville. There are also 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, William E. Lovelace, LaMarida, Calif.

Smith, Hattie M.

Hattie M. Smith, 92, formerly of 115 S. Fourth St., Hamburg, died Tuesday night at 10 pm in her Mohrsville RD 2 residence, where she resided with Larry and Cheryl Bressler. Born in Centerport, she was a daughter of the late Darius B. and Martha Y. (Rentschler) Rentschler. Her husband, Thomas L. Smith, died in 1936. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Burkey and Driscol Funeral Home, Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.

Smith, Henry S.

Henry S. Smith, of Allentown, died at his home quite suddenly on Tuesday from the effects of a severe cold which settled on his lungs. He was born at Mertztown, July 5, 1848, and at the time of his death was chief detective of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Company. He was a fearless man and through his efforts many arrest of noted criminals were made. His wife and three sons survive.

Services for Howard S. Smith, 88, of 616 N. 11th St., will be held Tuesday morning at 11 in the Henninger Funeral Home. The Rev. Gunther J. Stippich will officiate. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. Mr. Smith was dead on arrival Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Robesonia, he had been employed as a mechanic by the Reading Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1950. He was a member of Wyomissing Court and the Federated Free Men of America. Predeceased in 1954 by his wife, Elizabeth (Kramer) Smith, he is survived by a grandsons, a great-grandson and a brother, Charles of Denver.

Irvin T. Smith, of 429 Pine St., West Reading, died this morning in the Reading Hospital. Surviving are his widow, Edith B. (Acker) Smith, and four brothers: Howard, Robert, Charles and Calvin Smith. Funeral services will be conducted in the Henninger Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in Charles Evans Cemetery.

Smith, Jeffrey Scott

Services were held for Jeffrey Scott Smith, 19, of Perkasie, formerly of East Greenville, who passed away on Feb. 23, 2004, at his home. Born in West Rockhill Township, he was the son of Vickie Smith of Perkasie. He was last employed as an assistant cook for the Nase-Kraft American Legion Post 255, in Sellersville. He enjoyed basketball, cooking, and video games. He also enjoyed participating in recreational and leisure activities at the Penn Foundation in Sellersville. In addition to his mother he is survived by four brothers, Kevin, James, and Travis Smith, and Patrick Strohl, all at home; maternal grandmother, Beverly Smith of Perkasie; maternal grandfather, James H. Smith of Hatfield; maternal great-grandmother, Rosie Godshall of Sumneytown; and aunt Lisa McClintic of East Greenville. John M. Smith, 62, of Kutztown R. 1, died yesterday morning at Allentown hospital. He had been ill since December and hospitalized twice. Of Lutheran faith, he was born in Upper Macungie township, the son of the late Sarus and Susanna (Keeler) Smith. Mr. Smith was employed by the Topton Foundry for 21 years and was a member of the Topton Fire co., the Lyons Fire Co., the Ray Master Post, American Legion, Topton, and a local union. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude L. (Hilbert) Smith; one son, Raymond D., Kutztown; ten daughters, Mrs. Arthur Fink, Allentown; Mrs. Raymond Snyder, Mrs. Thomas Breidegon, both of Kutztown; Mrs. Thomas Kohler, Hamburg; Mrs. David Wagner, Orwigsburg; Mrs. Benjamin Moyer, Mertztown; Mrs. John Oswald, Mertztown; Mrs. John Toney, Fogelsville; Mrs. Richard Greiss, Macungie R. 1; Janette, at home; 14 grandchildren; one brother, William, Trexlertown, and two sisters, Mrs. Nelson Kuhns, Trexlertown, and Mrs. Richard Kratzer, Allentown.

Smith, Joyce Lorraine

Joyce Lorraine Smith, daughter of John and Gertrude (Hilbert) Smith, died yesterday at the home of her parents at Hinterleiters, near Topton, from a complication of ailments which had their inception on Sunday. The child was two years old. Besides the parents and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Susan Smith, of Trexlertown, the following brothers and sisters survive: Raymond Smith and Mrs. Arthur Fink, Allentown R. 3; Ida Smith, Kutztown r. 1; Mildred, Marie, Ruth, Janet, Lillian, Margaret, Louella and Betty, at home. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.

Smith, L. Heber

Col. L. Heber Smith, owner of the Joanna Furnace property at Berks County, Penn., and one of the wealthiest men in that section of the Keystone State, died early Friday morning at his residence, near Joanna, aged sixty-two. Col. Smith was a Director of the First National Bank at Reading, and of the Wilmington and Northern Railway, and Vice President of the Pennsylvania Trust Company. He was a stanch Republican, and some years ago was the party's candidate for Congress. During the rebellion he raised a company, which was enrolled as Company A, One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, of which he was Captain. Soon after the battle of Antietam, in which his company participated, he was promoted to the Lieutenant Colonelcy, and was actively engaged at South Mountain and Chancellorsville.

Smith, Mamie E.

Mamie E. Smith, 95, Kutztown, died July 18 in Kutztown Manor Inc. Her husband, Miles M. Smith, died in 1996. Born in Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara (Snyder) Otto. Smith was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown. She was former treasurer of the Kutztown Senior Citizens. Smith is survived by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Ronald B. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home Inc., Kutztown, is in charge of arrangements.

Smith, Manavilla

Manavilla, widow of Hezekiah Smith, died at the home of David G. Hoffman, Reading, last Friday afternoon. Her age was fifty years, and death was due to pulmonary tuberculosis, from which she had been a sufferer for three years, eight weeks of which she was bedfast. The deceased leaves two sisters, Mrs. Byron Carl, of Macungie, and Mrs. G. Edwin Schoch, of Emaus, and one brother, Frank Acker, of Allentown. Her husband, a native of Emaus, and a nephew who was raised by them, lie buried in Solomon's church cemetery, Macungie. The funeral of Mrs. Smith was held yesterday, at Reading, where burial was made. She was a member of the Mennonite church.

Among the local survivors of Martha L. (Symanowicz) Smith, 79, Lebanon, who died Jan. 24 in the Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she had been receiving hospice care, is a brother, Benjamin Symanowicz, Hamburg.

Smith, Matilda S. (nee Miller)

Mrs. Matilda S. (Miller) Smith, 85, of Mertztown R. 1, died about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Allentown Hospital, where she was a patient for a day. She was in good health until Dec. 1, when she fell at home and suffered a broken right hip. Born in Rockland Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Reuben and Sally Ann (Walb) Miller. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation at Bowers. Her husband, Henry W. Smith, died in 1950. Surviving are three sons, Henry, Palmerton; Earl, Topton, and William, Fleetwood; five daughters, Mrs. Libbie Parsons, with whom she resided; Mrs. Eva Weller, Mertztown R. 1; Verna, wife of William Muth, Breinigsville R. 1; Florence, wife of Paul Eshbach, Boyertown, and Mabel, Calif.; 33 grandchildren; 34 grandchildren and two brothers, Mathias, Alburtis r. 1, and Edwin, Manatawny. A son, Roland, and a daughter, Bertha, preceded her in death. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville.

Services were held in Christ & Catagnus Funeral Home, Oley, for Mildred A. Smith, who died Nov. 24 in her Forgedale Road, Rockland Township residence. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence E. Smith, who died Dec. 28, 1973. Born in Quincy, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Amelia (Gans) Wolf. Until retiring in 1985 as supervisor of the laundry department, she was employed for 30 years by Reading Hospital. Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine R. (Smith) Tornetta, Norristown, and Dawn L. (Smith) Markle, Rockland Township. There are also eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was a son of the late Reuben and Emma (Becker) Smith, and was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Robesonia, and the Robesonia Fire Company. Surviving are his widow, Cora (Boyer) Smith; two daughters: Mrs. Klopp, at whose home he died, and Leona, wife of Carl Stoltz, Robesonia and one grandson, and five brothers: Calvin, Quakertown; Irvin, West Reading; Howard and Charles, both of Reading and Robert, West Lawn. Mrs. Pearl E. Smith, 40, wife of Stanley O. Smith, died Wednesday evening at her home in Longswamp Township, Mertztown R. 1. Born in Allentown, daughter of the late Harry W. and Lillie B. (Rahn) Stuber, Mrs. Smith moved to her Longswamp address only four months ago, having resided previously in Topton. Survivors in addition to her husband are two daughters, Mary Lou, wife of William Reppert of Kutztown, and Miss Sylvia Smith, at home; four stepsons, Stanley Smith, USMC, Glenn Smith, USA in Korea, Gene, Allentown, and Richard, at home; and four sisters, Mrs. Eva Yocum and Mariam, wife of Melvin Kuhns, both of Allentown, Dorothy miller of Cetronia R. 1, and Alice, wife of Ray Miller of Allentown.

Robert E. Smith, 72, a former resident of West Lawn, died this morning at his residence in Warminster, Bucks County. Born in Wernersville, a son of the late Benjamin and Emma Smith, he was employed as an automobile salesman prior to his retirement six years ago. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn. His wife, Rose I. (Moyer) Smith, died in November 1951. He is survived by one son, Elmer M., with whom he resided, and three brothers: Howard and Charles, of Reading, and Calvin, of Quakertown. Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. in the Lamm and Witman Funeral Home, Wernersville, with the Rev. Malcolm W. Albright officiating. Burial will be made in St. Daniel's Cemetery, Robesonia.

Smith, Russell C.

Russell C. Smith, 57, died of natural causes April 5 at 9:16 a.m. in the residence of a niece, Brenda L. Smith, Greenwich Township, with whom he resided. Born in Greenwich Township, he was a son of the late Elmer W. and Sadie M. (Dietrich) Smith. Smith was a self-employed farmer in Greenwich Township for more than 40 years. He is also survived by a brother, Nevin A., Lenhartsville. Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., Kutztown. Burial will be in Frieden's Cemetery, Stony Run, Albany Township.

Among the local survivors of Russell M. Smith, of Titusville, Crawford County, who died June 23 in the Titusville Area Hospital, is a daughter, Shirley Jean (Smith), wife of Joe Hartman, Kutztown.

Smith, Stewart C.

Services were held for Stewart C. Smith Sr., 72, of Freeland, Luzerne County, formerly of Clayton and Barto, who died March 13 in St. Joseph's Medical Center in Hazleton, Luzerne County. He was the husband of Jacquelyn L. (Fox) Smith. Born in Pennsburg, he worked as a laborer for Yerger Wood Products in East Greenville until 1974. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Smith was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Freeland. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 537 of Morgantown. In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by four sons, John M. Smith Sr. of White Haven, Luzerne County, Larry W. Smith of Macungie, Stewart C. Smith Jr. of Freeland and Carl L. Smith of Drums, Luzerne County; five daughters, Lorraine C. Smith of Freeland, Linda J. Livingstone of Perkiomenville, Lori Ann Sheetz and Lisa Wilman, both of Boyertown, and Lena Keirsey of Hamburg; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Burial was in Christ Union Cemetery in Niantic. The Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, handled the arrangements.

On the 23d ult., in Philadelphia, Susanna, wife of William Smith, and daughter of Solomon and Susanna Bauman, of Cumru, Berks county, aged 24 years.

Smith, Verna C.

Verna C. Smith, of near Fredericksville, Berks county, was killed, and her step-sister, Hannah Derr, 16, seriously injured at 10 o'clock Monday night when the automobile in which they were riding left the road, plunged into a ditch and turned end over end. Stanley Novak, 22, South Fifth street, Reading, and John Sova, South Seventh street, Reading, companions of the girls, were committed to jail after being taken before Alderman Castner by Highway Patrolman A. W. Wessock. Novak, driver of the car, is charged with involuntary manslaughter. Sova is held as a material witness. Justice of the Peace F. N. Benfield, deputy coroner at Huffs Church, investigated and submitted a report to Coroner Winfield H. Ammarell. Yesterday the case was given personal attention by Coroner Ammarell, who announced that an inquest will be held Friday evening at the court house in Reading. The victim of the accident was Verna Caroline Smith, aged 18 years, 11 months and 2 days. Besides her mother, Emma (Eck), wife of Alfred Derr, and her step-father, she is survived by several sisters and step-sisters. The funeral will be held from the home, near Fredericksville, Friday at 1.30 p.m. Further services in Longswamp church, Rev. William F. Bond officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

On Sunday morning, the 3rd inst., in this city, Charles L. Smithmann, a native of Baden, Germany, and for many years an enterprising and respected citizen of Reading, in the 57th year of his aged.

Smoyer, Jonathan Elmer

Services will be Thursday for Jonathan Elmer "Flip" Smoyer Jr., 67, of North Franklin Street, Boyertown, who died June 1 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of Marlene (Heydt) Smoyer. Born in Pottstown, he graduated from Pottstown High School in 1954 and attended Penn State University. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an airman first class in Germany. Smoyer served actively from 1954 to 1958 and in the reserve from 1959 to 1962. He was a member of the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Fellowship. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ in Bechtelsville, where he served on the Missions Ministry for several years. Smoyer was a founder and coach of the M&M Rams football team in Pottstown. He coached in the Babe Ruth Baseball League in Boyertown. He was the first Citizen of the Month in Pottstown; a member of the Pottstown Elks Club and Victor Emmanuels in Reading. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Smoyer is survived by two sons, Tim Smoyer of Pottstown and Bill Smoyer of Boyertown; one daughter, Cheryl Knudson of Aurora, Ohio. Also, one brother, three sisters and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ, 527 Hoffmansville Road, Bechtelsville. Contributions may be made to the Sampson AFB Veterans Fellowship, P.O. Anna Jones Smyk, 81, of Jefferson Street, Muhlenberg Township, Berks County, was pronounced dead Monday morning at home. Born in Williamstown, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Tewis Mucha. She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park. Her first husband, Ray L. Jones, died July 12, 1946; her second husband, Harry Smyk, died July 5, 1967; a daughter, Rae Jones, died in 1960. Surviving are two daughters, Anne M. Halter, Newark, Del., and Kathy A. Greenberg, Robbinsville, N.J.; two brothers, Stephen Mucha, Swedesboro, N.J., and Joseph Mucha, El Paso, Texas; a sister, Elizabeth Walcott, Branchdale; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in Holy Spirit Cemetery, Williamstown. Walter R. Snaith, Shirley E.

Shirley E. Snaith, a retired social studies teacher, died of natural causes May 17 at 9:45 p.m. in her residence in Reading. Snaith, 71, was employed for 13 years as a social studies teacher in the Schuylkill Valley School District, Leesport, and was last employed for 20 years as a social studies teacher in the Reading School District until her retirement. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Curtis T. and Elsie V. (Long) Snaith. Snaith was a 1951 graduate of Reading High School and a 1955 graduate of Kutztown State Teacher's College with a bachelor's degree in education. Surviving is a brother, Robert W. Snaith, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Services were held for John A. Snead, 65, husband of Mary Snea d of Birdsboro, who died February 25 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. The arrangements were handled by the Cooper and Humbles Funeral Home in Accomac, Va.

Snell, John E.

Isaac F. Snell, 1556 Cotton Street, motorman on the Womelsdorf line of the United Traction Company, has been notified of the death of his brother, John E. Snell, late musician of Co. D. Fifth Infantry, at Dagupan, Pangasinan, Philippine Islands. His death occurred at the post hospital on February 24. He had been ill 20 days with dropsy. Motorman Snell was informed of the death by George F. Baltzell, first lieutenant and battalion adjutant of the Fifth Infantry, in command of Co. D. He states that Soldier Snell was given a military burial in the cemetery at the post on the day he died.

Snell inlisted in the United States Service on August 18, 1880. He served continuously during that period, and was reputed to be the oldest in point of service in his section. The brother in Reading is the last surviving member of the family and he has communicated with the War Department with a view of having the remains brought to Reading.

Snyder, Alverta E.

Alverta E. Snyder, 93, Kempton, died Aug. 29 in Kutztown Manor Inc. Born in Albany Township, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Sarah (Frey) Snyder. Snyder was employed for 28 years as a cafeteria worker and cook at the Albany Township Elementary School, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of New Bethel Union Church, Kempton. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, New Tripoli, Lehigh County. Burial will be in the New Bethel Union Cemetery, Kempton.

Following a lingering illness of a complication of ailments, Benjamin F. Snyder, well known and highly respected resident of East Greenville, died there at his home on Friday night at 11:15 o'clock. He was aged 54 years, 8 months and 25 days. Besides his widow, Agnes M. Snyder, nee Herzog, he is survived by three daughters, Verna, wife of Raymond Richard, Boyertown; Ruth, wife of Horace Godshall, Morwood and Esther Snyder, at home; two sons, Joseph Snyder, Pennsburg, and William Snyder, Gilbertsville; three grandchildren; four sisters, Katie, wife of Norman Kulp, Green Lane; Lillie, wife of Howard Kulp, and Judith, wife of John Young, both of Pennsburg, and Sallie Snyder, New Jersey, and two brothers, Clement D. Snyder, Hereford, and Richard A. Snyder, Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held at his late residence in East Greenville on Tuesday at 1 p.m., daylight saving time. Further services will be held in Huffs church at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. N. Blatt will officiate. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Friends may call at his late home this (Monday) evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. Funeral Director Owen S. Hoffman, of East Greenville, is in charge.

Snyder, Donald T.

Donald T. Snyder, ex-Jaycees official. Donald T. Snyder, former president of the Shoemakersville Jaycees and past area vice president of the Pennsylvania Jaycees, died Thursday at 5:15 p.m. in the Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Saturday. Snyder, 55 of 58 Clarence Ave., Shoemakersville was the husband of Sylvia L. (Spatz) Snyder. Born in Reading, he was a son of A. Dorothy (Ide) Snyder, Wyomissing, and the late M. Truman Snyder. Snyder was employed for 36 years by the Carpenter Technology Corp., most recently as a supervisor, last working June 1. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of St. Luke's Union Church, Shoemakersville. Snyder was a past master of Vaux Lodge 406, F & AM, Hamburg, and a past treasurer of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Mohrsville, and the Shoemakersville Fire Company. He was a past chairman of the Perry Township Municipal Authority. Snyder was a veteran of the Army Reserves. He was a graduate of the former Perry Township High School, in 1957, and the former Wyomissing Polytechnical Institute, in 1959. Other survivors include two sons, Steven T., Collegeville, and Eric L., Pewaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Laurie A. Snyder, wife of Harold J. Lepley, Mechanicsburg; a brother, Herbert, Hamburg; and three sisters: Helen, wife of Arthur Dornblaser, Wyomissing, Doris Bernheim, Bucks County; and Grace, wife of Robert Miller, Centerport. Snyder, Josephine H.

Josephine H. Snyder, 83, formerly of 824 Farr Place, Reading, died Monday in Wyomissing Rehabilitation Center, Reading, where she had resided since June 27, 1999. Born in New Ringgold, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Lilly Nester Hessinger. She was a 1936 graduate of Reading High School and a 1940 graduate of Hood College, Frederick, Md. She was employed as a counselor for residents of the Glenside Homes and was employed for six years as a counselor by the Pennsylvania Department of Health at the former psychiatric clinic for alcoholics in the state. She was last employed as a counselor at Reading High School, retiring in 1980. She was president of the Berks County League of Women Voters in the 1940s. She was a past vice president of the Association of University Women and vice president of the Junior League of Reading in 1952. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell S., in 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Candace J. Sommer, Lititz; a son, R. Sheldon, West Reading; five grandchildren. Services and interment will be private. Sanders Funeral Home, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillie Snyder, formerly of 1650 Washington Ave., Northampton, died Sunday morning in the Parkway Manor Rest Home, Allentown. She was the widow of James F. Snyder. Mrs. Snyder died several hours after the death of her brother, Fred R. Weil, Sunday. Born in Topton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Weil. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, Northampton. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Ida Silfies of Ashkun, Ill. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Snyder, Mary

Miss Mary Snyder of Jacksonwald, Berks County, died at 3 o'clock yesterday morning at Kutztown. She was a member of this year's graduating class of the Keystone Normal School, and she would have graduated today, her class consisting of one hundred members. She was taken sick a week ago with Rheumatism, convulsions also resulting, and her condition became alarming two days ago. Her father and sister were at her bedside during her last hours. Deceased was about nineteen years of age. The body was sent yesterday morning to Jacksonwald for burial.

Snyder, Mary Catherine (nee Kutz)

Mrs. Mary Catherine (Kutz) Snyder, wife of the late Joseph P. Snyder, died Friday night, Jan. 2, at her home, 226 N. 12th St. She was born June 3, 1863, at Topton, a daughter of the late Samuel and Caroline (Dry) Kutz, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and the Home department of the Sunday school there. Elizabeth, wife of State Senator O. J. Tallman, Mrs. Susan Brewer and George Snyder of Allentown, and May Louise Snyder, at home. Two grandchildren also survive. Rev. George A. Greiss, pastor of St. Paul's church, will conduct services at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the J. S. Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton St. Burial will be in Grandview cemetery.

Services were held in the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville, Lehigh County for Nevin E. Snyder of Walter Street, Trexlertown, who died of natural causes Feb. 26 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Helen M. (Muthard) Snyder. Born in Greenwich Township, he was a son of Mabel (Kline) Snyder, Lenhartsville, and the late Elwood C. Snyder. Until his retirement, he had been employed as a welder by the Fogel Commercial Refrigerator Co., Topton. He was previously employed as a welder for Hahn Fire Apparatus Manufacturing Co., Hamburg. He was also an Army National Guard veteran. Surviving is a daughter, Brenda (Snyder) Vogel, Allentown.

Robert L. Snyder, 77, Muhlenberg Township, died Aug. 12 in Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Dolores J. (Nagle) Snyder. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Paul R. and Dorothy (Luppold) Snyder. He was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton. Snyder was a 1946 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Snyder was the president of R. Snyder Builders Inc., Muhlenberg Township, for 31 years, last working May 21, 2004. Other survivors include two sons, Jeffery C. and Andrew R., both of Muhlenberg Township. He is also survived by a brother, Frederick L. Snyder, Leesport. There are also six grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.

Russell V. Snyder, 43, 122 Haas St., Topton, mechanic in the machinery department of the Caloric Stove Company, Topton, died Thursday night in Allentown Hospital, following a one-month illness. Born in Bowers, he was a son of Victor D. Snyder and the late Mrs. Florence (Eisenhower) Snyder. He was a member of the St. Peter's Reformed Church, Topton, the Topton Fire Company and its Beneficial Association, the Alliance Fire Company and Ray A. Master Post, American Legion, Topton. Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, the former Mae B. Derr, a daughter Gloria, wife of Donald Hieter, at home; a grandson, Scott Hieter, two sisters, Marie, wife of Bernard Wanamaker, Topton, Joyce, wife of Leon Trexler, Alburtis, and a brother, Ray, Bit Timber, Mont.

Snyder, Sallie M. (nee Bealer)

Mrs. Sallie M., nee Bealer, Snyder, widow of William Snyder, died Sunday at the Good Shepherd Home where she had been a guest since November, 1940. She was 75 years old.

Born in Berks county, she was the daughter of the late David and Sarah, nee Miller, Bealer. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer.

Surviving are a brother, David Bealer, of Hamburg; a brother-in-law, Charles Snyder, and several nieces and nephews. Rev. Walter Williams will officiate at services at the Good Shepherd home on Thursday at 10:20 a.m. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah A. Snyder, 64, wife of William D. Snyder, of 1343 Good Street, died Friday 10:10 PM in St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Reading, a daughter of the late Calvin and Laura ( Bright ) Graul, she was employed as a sewing machine operator for Vanity Fair, Inc., for 25 years, last working in 1947. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, and a volunteer worked for the American Red Cross and Community General Hospital. Surviving in addition to her husband are three brothers: Calvin and Herbert, both of Reading, and Elwood, Gibraltar, and a sister, Alice, wife of Clarence Briner, Reading, Pa. Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Henninger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Hosler and Miriam G. (Dengler) Behm. Snyder was employed for 15 years as a garment worker in the Reading area. She was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Snyder was a life member of the Russel M. Butterweck Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Kenhorst. She was a 1950 graduate of Reading High School. Surviving is a sister, Stella G. (Hosler) Beisswanger, Tucson, Ariz. Services will be Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Henninger Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County.

Born in Fleetwood, he was a son of the late Walter K. and Ella K. (Barral) Snyder. Until retiring in 1991, he was employed by Mack Truck, Allentown, for 37 years. He was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran. Snyder was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Dryville. Surviving are a daughter, Penni L. (Snyder) Moyer, Fleetwood; and three sons: Walter A. Snyder, Maidencreek Township; Stanley R. Snyder, Fleetwood; and Troy W. Snyder, Sinking Spring. Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Suzette R. Funeral services will be held May 15, 1:30 p.m., in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, for Zachary J. Snyder, of Ebling Road, Greenwich Township, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident May 11 along Dunkle's Church Road, Greenwich Township. Burial will be in Frieden's Cemetery, Greenwich Township. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Scott A. and Barbara J. (Levan) Snyder. He was a 10th-grade student at Kutztown Area High School and was a student at the Berks Career and Technology Center East, Oley, where he was studying automobile technology. Snyder was a member of St. Paul's Church, Fleetwood. Also surviving are a brother, Aaron J. Snyder, and a sister, Olivia J. Snyder, both at home. A funeral Mass was celebrated for Amelia (Henry) Sobjak, 86, widow of Joseph R. Sobjak Sr., of North Church Street, Bally, who died May 27 in her home. Born in Niantic, she worked as a dishwasher for the Globe Hotel in East Greenville for 12 years, before retiring. She was a lifelong member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Bally. Surviving are seven sons, Joseph R. Sobjak Jr. of Boyertown, Michael J. Sobjak of Muncy, Bernard A. Sobjak of Bechtelsville, Edward J. Sobjak of Barto, Stephen P. Sobjak of Oley, Mario J. Sobjak of Bally and Francis A. Sobjak of Fleetwood. Also five daughters, Antoinette Tirjan of Quakertown, Mary Ellen Carpenter of Ponce de Leon, Fla., Jane Keill of Bally, Peggy Strunk of Bally and Rita M. Kemp of Barto. Also, a sister; 37 grandchildren and 31 greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by 15 brothers and sisters, as well as a grandson. Born in Bally, he worked for Bally Engineered Structure in Bally for 37 years and then for Quigley Chevrolet in Bally for eight years. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Bally. Sobjak was a member of the Goodwill Fire Company in Bally and the Liberty Fire Company in New Berlinville, where he was a member of the fire police. He was also a member of the Berks County Fire Police Association. In addition to his wife, Sobjak is survived by a daughter, Laura L. Sobjak of New Berlinville; one son, Brian S. White of New Berlinville; one sister, Barbara Miller of Quakertown; and one brother, Paul E. Sobjak of Bally. Charles L. Sowers, 81, of 901 Main St., Shoemakersville, Berks County, a retired tax collector, died Thursday in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Monday. Born in Auburn, he was a son of the late Frederick L. and Stella K. Kramer Sowers. He served as tax collector in Shoemakersville from 1976 to 1996 from his residence. He was vice chairman of the Shoemakersville Sewer Authority. He was employed as a data processing teacher at McCann School of Business, Reading. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Auburn, a 50-year member of Vaux Lodge 406 Free and Accepted Masons, Hamburg, a life member and former financial secretary of the Perry Gun Club. He had been financial secretary for 20 years for the Shoemakersville Fire Company, and was also past secretary of the Shoemakersville Swimming Pool Association. A 50-year member of AAA of Reading-Berks, he was a recipient of the Golden VIP award. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth M. Schlappich; a son, Harry L., Tilden Township; a sister, Marion A. Baver, RD1 Orwigsburg; four brothers, Ernest L., Schuylkill Haven, Robert K., RD1 Orwigsburg, William M., Orwigsburg, Ira J., Reading; a granddaughter. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Leibensperger Funeral Home Inc., Hamburg. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Perry Township.

Deborah C. Sowers, 55, of Perkasie, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 at Grand View Hospital. Funeral services were held Jan. 22. Interment was in St. Andrews Union Cemetery, Perkasie. She was the wife of Jay D. Sowers for 39 years. She was the daughter of Ralph E. Shaak, Sr., of Quakertown and the late Pauline E. (Auer) Shaak. She was a school bus driver for the Pennridge School District for seven years until retiring in Dec. 2002. Prior to that, she worked for many years for Dudley Sports until it closed and for Lewis's Restaurant, Perkasie. She was a member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie. She was a member of the Perkasie Fire Company where she was the current financial secretary. She first volunteered as a member of the fire police and then became a firefighter. She was named "Perkasie Fire Company Firefighter of the Year" in 1997. She was also the first female member of the Perkasie Fire Company to be a life member of both the Ladies Auxiliary and the Fire Company. She was a member of the Winterettes Bowling League, the Earl Bowlerettes, the Woman's International Bowling Congress (WIBC), as well as the Peterson Point Classic of Allentown. She was a member of the Lehigh Valley 600 Club, the Pennsylvania 600 Club and the National 600 Club. She was a pitcher with the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Women's Softball Team, Perkasie. She also served on the Perkasie Borough Police Youth Aid Panel. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by: one daughter, Cindy A. of Perkasie; one son, David J. of Quakertown; six brothers, Ralph Shaak, Jr. of East Rockhill Twp., William Shaak of East Rockhill Twp., Robert Shaak of Haycock Township, Ronald Shaak of Pennsburg Michael Shaak of Pennsburg and Jeffrey Shaak of East Rockhill Township; five sisters, Mary Bearns of Quakertown, Sandra Shaak of Richlandtown, Phyllis Shaak of Quakertown, Diane Orr of Perkasie and Kathryn Shaak of East Rockhill Township; six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sarah Francis Spangler, 88, formerly of 3711 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, died Thursday at 4:40 a.m.in the Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient two days.

She was taken to the hospital from the Country Meadows of Wyomissing, where she had resided since December 1999.

Born in Hyde Park, she was the daughter of the late Ammon Y. and Annie E.(Baum) Schmeck.

She was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Hyde Park where she was a past president of the Mother's Sunday School Class and former chairwoman of the Alter Guild. Spangler was past president and past vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Goodwill Fire Company, Hyde Park.

She was a graduate of Sinking Spring High School. Surviving are a daughter Doris E. (Spangler) Wert, Laureldale, with whom she last resided; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Bean Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Inc., Reading. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Annamae Spatz, 75, Kutztown, died Aug. 28 at 10:15 a.m. in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, where she had been a patient since Aug. 22. Her husband, Norman M. Spatz, died June 9. Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Annie Ellen (Stump) Dietrich. Spatz was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown. She was a charter member of the Kutztown Lioness Club, serving as president in 1980. Spatz is survived by three daughters: Brenda K. (Spatz) Shueman, Greenwich Township; Norann L. (Spatz) Warmkessel, Richmond Township; and Randy Sue (Spatz) Kline, Fleetwood. There are also eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Spatz, Daniel

Daniel Spatz, one of Pottstown's best known business men and citizen, died suddenly on Sunday last, aged about 63 years. He was the son of Elizabeth and the late Isaac Spatz, of Amityville, Berks County, and was born and lived in that community until about 12 years ago, when he moved to Pottstown. The deceased followed butchering since a young man. He leaves a widow and children as follows: Mrs. Annie, wife of J. H. VanReed, Amityville; Mrs. Mary, wife of E. P. VanReed, Reading; John Spatz, Reading; and George Spatz, William Spatz, Daniel Spatz, and Miss Emma Spatz, all living in Pottstown. George K. Spatz, the well known butcher of Boyertown, is a brother and Mrs. Elizabeth, wife of William Ehrgood, Mrs. Catharine, wife of John Pott and Mrs. Miranda, wife of Levi Rhoads all of Berks County are sisters. The mother of the deceased lives at Amityville, at the remarkable age of 89 years. The father died three years ago.

Spatz, 72, of 58 Clarence Ave, Shoemakersville, who died Wednesday morning in St Joseph's Hospital, where he was a patient for two days, will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Roderick Sutliff will officiate in the Burkey & Spacht Funeral Home, Hamburg. The burial will be made in Belleman's Church Cemetery, Dauberville. Born in Centre Twp, a son of the late Howard and Agnes (Althouse) Spatz, he had been employed by the Carpenter Technology Corp, before retiring in 1963. Mr Spatz was a member of Belleman's United Church of Christ, Dauberville, and of Henry J. Stager Commandery, Knights Templar, Centerport. He also was affiliated with the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Centerport, and the Shoemakersville Fire Co. Mr Spatz was preceded in death in 1960 by his wife, Laura (Blatt) Spatz.

He is survived by four daughters; Anna L, wife of Floyd Heckman, and Gladys A, wife of Floyd Long, both of Hamburg, Mildred L, wife of Benjamin Bucks, Leesport, and Sylvia L, wife of Donald T. Snyder, Shoemakersville, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Robert of Lebo, Kan, Lloyd of Emporia, Kan, and Walter of Bernville, R.D. 1, and Daniel of Mohrsville, R.D. 1, and a sister, Alice, in Kentucky.

She was a member of the Church Sunday school, Ladies Aid Society and Women's Guild, the Ladies Auxiliary of St Joseph's Hospital, Reading, the auxiliaries of Leesport and Shoemakersville fire companies and the Marion Fire Co. of Reading and Leesport Woman's Club. Surviving besides her husband are four daughters: Anna, wife of Floyd Heckman, Hamburg, Mildred, wife of Benjamin Bucks, Mohrsville, Gladys, wife of Floyd Long, Shoemakersville R.D. 1, and Sylvia, wife of Donald Snyder, Reading, three grandchildren and two sisters: Andora, wife of Herbert Rahn, Laureldale, and Ada, wife of John Balthaser, Strausstown. Leon R. Spatz, 75, died Friday at 11:20 p.m. in his residence at 321 N. Centre Ave, Leesport. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Hafer) Spatz. Born in Temple, he was a son of the late Paul J. and Stella L. (Mengel) Spatz. For 10 years, he was employed as a school bus driver for the Schuylkill Valley School District by Van Lear Equipment, Inc, retiring in 1993. From 1945 to 1961, he was a self-employed electrician in Auburn, Schuylkill County. From 1961 to 1980, he was employed as a truck driver by the former Reading Transportation Co. Spatz was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Leesport. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a 50-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 3975, Auburn.

Spatz is also survived by a son, Robert L., Honey Brook, Chester Co, and a daughter Linda M., wife of George E. Heffner, Fleetwood R.D. 1. Other survivors include five brothers; Lester P. and Carl J., Sr. both of Mohrsville, Merlon I, of Leader Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Reading, Frederick P, Bethel, and Earl R., Mount Dora, Fla. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Spatz was a 1996 Melvin Jones award recipient with the Kutztown Lions Club and was a consistory member with the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Reading, since 1980. He was also a member of the High Twelve with the Scottish Rite. Spatz is also survived by three daughters: Brenda K. (Spatz) Shueman, Kutztown; Norann L. (Spatz) Warmkessel, Moselem Springs; and Randy Sue (Spatz) Kline, Fleetwood. Other survivors include a brother, Wilmer, Reading. There are also eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Paul L. Spatz, 61, formerly of Centre Township, died of natural causes Feb. 2 at 7:01 a.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center. He was taken to the medical center from Spruce Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Reading. Born in Centre Township, he was a son of Lester P. and Ada H. (Weist) Spatz, Centre Township. Spatz was employed for 20 years as an assembler by Berco Industries, Shillington, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Township. Spatz is also survived by two brothers, Ronald D., Dauberville, and Barry L., Centre Township. Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg. Wilmer C. Spatz, 84, died June 18 at 10:45 a.m. in his residence in Lower Alsace Township. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Althouse) Spatz. Born in Centerport, he was a son of the late Lawrence L. and Amy R. (Burkey) Spatz. Spatz was employed for 26 years as maintenance superintendent by Crompton & Knowles Corp., Robeson Township, until 1983. He was self-employed for 50 years in roofing and siding and was also employed for 20 years as the Kerosene Doctor in West Lawn. He also did heater repairs until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Mount Penn. Spatz was a graduate of Centre Township High School and attended classes at Penn State Berks Lehigh Valley College, Spring Township, and Reading High School. He was a life member of the Shoemakersville Fire Company. Spatz is also survived by a son, Eugene W., in Colorado; and three daughters: Sheila A. (Spatz) Doran, Douglassville; Donna K. (Spatz) Glover, Denver, Lancaster County; and Linda M. (Spatz) Broome, Harrisburg. Other survivors include five grandchildren. Woodrow W. Specht, 88, a resident at Stony Run Village, Denver, Lancaster County, and a former city police officer, died July 9 at 8 p.m. in Maple Farm Nursing Center, Akron, Lancaster County. His wife, Carrie K. (Foltz) Specht, died April 1, 1986. Born in Denver, he was a son of the late Harvey Sr. and Edith (Firestone) Specht. Specht was a police officer in Reading for 27 years. He also worked as a sales manager for 32 years at Zartman Dodge, Lititz, Lancaster County, and was previously a chemist at Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Specht was a fire policeman with the Vinemont Fire Company and was the recipient of a longevity award from the governor. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6759, Reinholds. Specht is survived by a son, Kenneth R., Reamstown, Lancaster County; and two daughters, Rebecca K. (Specht) Good, Denver, and June L. (Specht) Zimmerman, Ephrata. John R. Spencer Sr., 62, of 1246 Buck Drive, Auburn, died Friday afternoon in the emergency room at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Born in Hybart, Ala., he was a son of the late Jessie Sr. and Ellen Thompson Spencer. He was employed for 30 years as a welder by Dana Corp., Reading, retiring in 1999. Spencer, a resident of the Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village Stone Ridge Campus, Myerstown, for 13 years and formerly of Fleetwood, who died June 8 in the Stone Ridge Village Health Center. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. He was the husband of Sallie (Gehman) Spencer, also a resident at Stone Ridge. He was predeceased by his first wife, Clara Helen (Berry) Spencer, who died May 22, 1979. Born in Harrison Township, Potter County, he was a son of the late David and Martha (Sawyer) Spencer. Until retiring in 1967, he was employed as a master tool and die maker by parish Structural Products Division of Dana Corp., Reading, for 29 years. He was am ember of Myerstown Baptist Church. Spengler, aged 72 years, 8 months and 14 days, died Sunday morning at 7 o'clock of catarrhal pneumonia at the home of his son, George W., in Upper Tulpehocken, near this village. Deceased had been ill about one week. A brother, George E. West Lawn. July 5 (Special). - Peter F. Spengler, of 2026 Penn avenue, this borough, died at 2 o'clock this morning in the Reading Hospital from complications. He was aged 71 years, 8 months and 22 days. Deceased was a former resident of Strausstown, but for sometime made his home with his son-in-law, Calvin A. Unger, secretary to Alvin F. Kemp, county superintendent of schools, at this place. He was a son of Adam and Selesa (Reber) Spengler, and was a member of Camp 664, P. O. S. of A., Strusstown, and the Reformed congregation of Zion's Blue Mountain Church, Strausstown. Mr. Spengler was last employed as janitor of the West Wyomissing School.

There survive one daughter, Alice, wife of Calvin A. Raymond H. Spengler Jr., 63, died of natural causes May 16 at 6 a.m. in his residence in Muhlenberg Township, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Dorothy L. (Quenzer) Spengler. Born in Fleetwood, he was a son of Fern (Kemmerer) Eschbach, Blandon, and the late Woodrow Eschbach. Spengler was employed for 32 years as a steel worker by Empire Steel Castings Inc., Laureldale, retiring in 1996. Spengler was a life member and past officer of Temple Fire Company, where he was also the president of the Temple Fire Company Beneficial Association. He played varsity basketball at Fleetwood High School. Spengler is also survived by a son, Barry J. Spengler, Temple; two stepsons, Michael A. Barninger, Ocala, Fla., and John R. Manning, Marysville, Perry County; and a stepdaughter, Sharon A. Manning, New Bloomfield, Perry County. Other survivors include four sisters: Rosemary F. (Spengler) Zimmerman, Leesport; Barbara A. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren H. Spirat, who died Oct. 25, 1990. Born in Ringtown, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late Edward I. and Emma C. (Lindenmuth) Miller. She was co-owner/operator with her husband of the Spirat Antique Shop, Hamburg, from 1940 until 1990. They also rented rooms in their residence for 40 years. She was a member of Christ (Little Tulpehocken) United Church of Christ, Jefferson Township. Spirat was a 1928 graduate of Girardville High School, Schuylkill County. She was a volunteer at the current ManorCare, West Reading, for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Gloria E. (Gabel) Spohn, also a resident of the Frederick Mennonite Community. Born in Colebrookdale Township, he was a son of the late Elmer Spohn and Florence (Christman) Spohn Renninger. Spohn was employed for 43 years in the shipping department of Eastern Foundry, Boyertown, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. John (Hill) United Church of Christ, Pike Township. Spohn was a life member of the Friendship Hook & Ladder Company, Boyertown, and the Keystone Fire Company, Bechtelsville. He is also survived by two sons, Barry L., Langhorne, Bucks County, and Dale W., Everett, Wash.; and two daughters, Donna B. (Spohn) Zuber, Bechtelsville, and Joan I. (Spohn) Hall, Parkersburg, W. Born in Eshbach, Spohn worked for the past 31 years as a loom repairman for the Bally Ribbon Mill in Bally. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Spohn was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Pennsburg. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Daniel R. Spohn of Blandon, and Vincent R. Spohn, of Palm; two daughters, Rosanna T. Zentner of East Greenville and Susanna T. Ihlenfeld of Barto. Also a brother, Gerald L. Spohn, Boyertown; two sisters, Irene Spohn of Boyertown and Helen Hoffmaster of Bechtelsville; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepbrother. William P. Spohn, 67, died of lung cancer July 7 at 2:20 a.m. in his residence in Upper Tulpehocken Township. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Fitzgerald) Spohn. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Harvey W. Spohn and Edna M. (Miller) Oxenreider. Spohn was employed for 38 years as a machine operator by Arrow International, Wyomissing, retiring in 1998. Surviving are a brother, Elmer Spohn, Sinking Spring; and two sisters, Sandra (Spohn) Martin, Middleboro, Mass., and Fay (Spohn) Oxenreider, West Lawn. Other survivors include a stepbrother, Elwood Whitmoyer, Sinking Spring. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Zion (Blue Mountain) United Church of Christ, Strausstown. Sponagle, Evan M.

The funeral was held Monday for Evan M. Sponagle, 57, of Morris RD 1, who died Saturday morning, February 3, 1979, after being stricken while clearing snow on English Center Road in Pine Township.

Mr. Sponagle was a member of the Pine Township Board of Supervisors. He also was an area farmer, and a retired government engineer.

He was born at Geigertown, Berks County, May 3, 1921, a son of James Roy and Emma Clemons Sponagle.

He also was a member of Union Lodge 479, F&AM, Birdsboro, the Rajah Temple in Reading and the Colonel Jacob Morgan American Legion Post 537 in Morgantown.

Mr. Sponagle was a member of the Morris Fire Co. and the Morris Sportsman's Club.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Kruse; a son, Evan M. of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; two step daughters, Mrs. William Harder of Marionette, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Allyn Andersen of Green Bay, Wisconsin; two stepsons, Keith Laux and Paul Laux, both of Green Bay; four sisters, Mrs. Sara Harner of Broomall, Mrs. Elizabeth Summers of Gap, Mrs. Irene Wells of Glenmoore and Mrs. Jane Spotts of Morgantown; two grandsons and three stepgrandchildren.

The Rev. George Bartoo III, pastor of the Wellsboro United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial will be in Green Bay.

Spotts, Francis J.

Francis J. Spotts, a World War veteran, died at 4:45 a.m. yesterday at his home, 2 Callow Hill St., Topton, in his 49th year. Mr. Spotts, a corporal in Company B., U.S. Marine Corps, enlisted June 1, 1916, and was discharged July 8, 1920. A native of Red Cross, Northumberland county, he was the son of Mary A., nee Klock, Spotts and the late Jeremiah F. Spotts. For some time he had been employed at the Topton Foundry Co. Mr. Spotts was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Topton, and the Ray Master post, American Legion, that place. Besides his wife, nee Luma P. Sicher, and his mother, Mrs. Mary A. Spotts, there survive one son, Paul, at home; two brothers, George and Paul, Brownstown, Lancaster county; three sisters, Mrs. C. I. Trexler, Treverton; Mrs. Wallace Barto, Topton; Mrs. Herman Rottmund, Ephrata. Rev. William H. Kline will officiate at funeral services to be held at his late home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Continued services in Trinity Lutheran church, Topton, and interment in Union cemetery, Topton. Undertaker Irwin DeLong has charge of the funeral arrangements.

Spotts, Warren G.

Among the local survivors of Warren G. Spotts, 84, of Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, who died June 12 in Ephrata Community Hospital, where he had been a patient two days, is a brother, Leon Spotts, Hamburg.

Spranger, Gustav Augustus

Gustav Augustus Spranger, one of the oldest residents of Kutztown, died Sunday in the 80th year of his age. Mr. Spranger was a jeweler and his picture hangs in a prominent place in the establishment of H. Muhr and Son, the well-known Philadelphia jewelers. Beneath it are the following words: "Our First and Oldest Customer." They were very intimate friends and Mr. Spranger frequently received fine presents as a token of esteem and respect. Deceased was born in Rheim Rishapen In Gross Herzog then Baden, Germany, January 24, 1816. He lived with his parents in the old country until he was 16 years of age, when he sailed for American and came to Macungie township, Lehigh County, where he resided four years when he was married to Miss Sara Schoedler, of Kutztown, on December 27, 1826, when he moved to Kutztown where they resided ever since. He leaves a widow and the following children: Daniel K., Mrs. M. T. Donmoyer, Mrs. James H. Marx, Lewis F., a prominent lawyer of Independence, Ioa, and Katie M., who lives with her parents.

Sprecher, Edna W.

Edna W. Sprecher, longtime co-owner of a former Robesonia grocery store, died Sunday morning in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center Inc., Wernersville, where she had been a patient since September 1993. Sprecher, 95, formerly of Robesonia, was the wife of Clarence W. Sprecher, who died Nov. 10, 1975. For 25 years, she was a co-owner of the former Sprecher Grocery Store, retiring in 1965. Born in Oregon, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac B. and Lizzie (Eichelberger) Weinhold. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy A., wife of William L. Ludwig, Robesonia; a brother, Howard E. Weinhold, Reamstown, Lancaster Coutny; a sister, Anna Mae, wife of Howard Minnich, Ephrata, Lancaster County: three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Church. Burial will be in Muddy Creek Cemetery, East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Sprecher, Eleanor M.

Eleanor M. Sprecher, 76, of 76 Scenic Dr., Denver, died Saturday night at Reading Hospital and Medical Center following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin R. Sprecher on January 22, 2004. Born in Salisbury Twp., she was the daughter of the late Harland and Edna M. Clark Simmons. She was a graduate of the former New Holland High School. Eleanor was self-employed with her husband at Sprecher s Meat in Fleetwood. They also operated stands at several Berks County markets. Since 1998, she was employed by Weaver Markets. She attended Trinity E.C. Church, Terre Hill, enjoyed traveling, and was formerly an avid bowler with the leagues in Fleetwood. Surviving is a sister, Charlotte Weaver, Terre Hill; three brothers, Harry, married to Verna Simmons, Fairmount Homes; Stanley Simmons, Gap; Ted, married to Chong Simmons, Crestview, FL; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill with the Rev. Alton A. Hoffman officiating. Interment in Terre Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday from 9 to 10 AM. If desired, memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.

Sprecher, Redosa

Sprecher--On the 6th inst., Redosa, widow of the late Solomon Sprecher, aged 76 years, 10 months and 24 days. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the residence of her son-in-law, David Paulsgrove, 915 Washington street, on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services at the First Reformed church. Interment at Charles Evans cemetery.

Springer, Natalie K.

Natalie K. Springer, 81, formerly of Pennside, died May 16 at 8:51 a.m. in Reading Hospital, shortly after being admitted. She was taken to the hospital from Berkshire Commons, Exeter Township. She was the wife of Paul E. Springer, Reading. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Irene M. (Selin) Keely. Springer was a member of the Pennside Presbyterian Church. She is also survived by a daughter, Kathryn I. (Springer) DePasquale, Muhlenberg Township; and a son, Richard G., West Lawn. Other survivors include three grandchildren. Memorial services will be Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Pennside Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Springer, Neida L.

Neida L. Springer, 46, of Topton, died yesterday at the Reading hospital, after a short illness. Until recently she was employed as a knitter at the Leininger Knitting Mills, Lyons Station. She was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, a daughter of Mary Weiss Springer and the late Levi Springer. She was a member of the Longswamp Lutheran church. Besides her mother she is survived by a daughter, Glenowyn, wife of Earl Schappell of Kutztown; one grandchild, and a brother, Joseph, of Reading. Rev. C. E. Keiser will officiate at services to be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the late home at the Longswamp church. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

Sproesser, Minerva E. (nee Neeb)

Mrs. John Sproesser Dies of Heart Failure. Minerva E. (nee Neeb), wife of John Sproesser, aged 34 years died of heart failure at 6:45 a.m. today at her home, 861 Schuylkill Avenue, following an illness of one year. Deceased was confined to bed since Friday. She was born in this city and lived here all her life. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Neeb and a member of the Lutheran denomination.

Sproul, Jacob W.

Jacob W. Sproul, of Topton, died suddenly while working at the Topton foundry on Tuesday about 11 a.m., aged 32 years, 7 months and 9 days. Deceased was the son of George Sproul and wife, Amelia (nee Mickel). He served in the World War. He is survived by his wife, Sallie (nee Hilbert), two daughters, his father, two sisters, step-mother and one step-sister. The funeral will be held Saturday, January 6, at 2 p.m. from his late residence on Furnace street, Topton. All services at the house. Interment will be made in the Mertztown cemetery. Rev. W. S. Dry will officiate. Funeral Director Jacob J. Schafer, of Topton, has charge.

At Robeson Station, on the 6th, Emma E. (Glass), widow of Robert Squibb, aged 77 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral, without further notice, from her late residence, near Robeson Station, on Monday March 10 at 11 o�clock a.m. Services at the house, only. Interment in St. Michael�s Cemetery, Birdsboro.
