Alberta T. Pacharis, 83, of 22 Rothermel St., Hyde Park, died Wednesday evening in Berks Heim, where she resided since Oct. 22. Born in Seltzer, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Velnis Lipsky. She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park. Preceding her in death was her husband, John, in July 1973. Surviving are four sons, Lawrence J., Alsace Township, Berks County, Stephen P., Birdsboro, and Robert A. and David G., both of Reading; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from Bean Funeral Home Inc., Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale.

Paff, Betty J.

Graveside services were held in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton, for Betty J. Paff, 79, of Scenic Drive, Perry Township, who died April 12 in Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where she had resided since March 27. She was the wife of LaVern H. Paff. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Catherine C. (Owens) Baumener. Until retiring in 1949, she was employed as a dancer by the Catherine A. Behney Dance Studio, Reading, for 14 1/2 years. Also surviving are a son, Barry R. Paff, Womelsdorf, and a daughter, Robyn L. (Paff) Erb, Lansdale, Montgomery County. Other survivors include a sister, Jane M. (Baumener) Maurer, Reading. The Bean Funeral Home, Reading, was in charge of arrangements.

Paff, Cora A. (nee Smith)

Mrs. Cora A. (Smith) Paff, wife of Irvin W. Paff, 309 W. Walnut St., Kutztown, died Saturday in the Allentown hospital. She was 51 years old. Born Dec. 26, 1888, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Eliza A. (Muthard) Smith. Survivors include her husband and a brother, Horace G. A. Smith, Grenloch, N.J. For 14 years, she was the chaplain for the East Penn chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Kutztown. Services will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. at the Fritz funeral home, Kutztown. Interment in the Fairview cemetery, Kutztown. Viewing Monday 7-9 p.. The Rev. E. K. Angstadt will officiate.

Paffenberger - In Reading, July 11th, Cyrus Paffenberger, son of Isaac and Elizabeth Paffenberger, aged 24 years, 1 month and 1 day.

Paffenberger, George W

George W. Paffenberger, son of Jacob & Elizabeth (Morge) Paffenberger, was born December 8, 1858, in Tulpehocken township. He died August 12, 1930, aged 71y8m4d, survived by two brothers: Henry and Jacob J; and two sisters: Cordelia W. and Mrs. Mary Werner. Services at St. John's.

Paffenberger, Henry Franklin

Henry Franklin Paffenberger, son of Jacob & Elizabeth (Morge) Paffenberger, was born in Tulpehocken township July 16, 1855, and died September 3, 1936, aged 81y1m17d. He is survived by a brother Jacob and a sister Cordelia M. Service and interment in St. John's.

Paffenberger, Isaac

Isaac Paffenberger, son of Joseph and Sarah (Miller) Paffenberger, was born September 29, 1826, in Bethel township; baptized in infancy; confirmed at Lutheran Church at Rehrersburg by Rev. Daniel Ulrich. He married Elizabeth Speicher, with whom he had thirteen children; only three daughters remain. He died at the home of Mr. J. Aaron Leiss, in Heidelberg township, June 8, 1907, age 80y8m9d.

Paffenberger, John Adam

John Adam Paffenberger, son of Catherine (Morgan) Paffenberger, was born October 7, 1847. He married Sarah Borrel May 15, 1869, and died March 15, 1921, aged 73y5m8d. He is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral from his late home near Stouchsburg, with burial at Host.

Pagano, Karen S.

Among the local survivors of Karen S. (Reisenweaver) Pagano, 54, Northampton County, who died Dec. 26 in St. Luke's Hospital, is a brother, Robert Reisenweaver, Leesport.

Page, Thelma M.

Thelma M. Page, 82, of 1724 Delaware Ave., Wyomissing, died Thursday at home. Born in Girardville, she was a daughter of the late Adam P. and Elsie Linkchorst Kline. She was a 1944 graduate of Reading Hospital School of Nursing, West Reading. She had been employed for 20 years as a registered nurse and X-ray technician at Reading Hospital, and then worked for 12 years as an X-ray technician by Dr. Lowell Yund and Dr. Job Menges, both of Reading, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ, Wernersville, and a life member of Reading Hospital Nurses' Alumni Association. Surviving are her husband, Homer H.; a son, Charles H., Wernersville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Bean Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Sinking Spring. Interment will be in Hain's Cemetery, Lower Heidelberg Township, Berks County.

Painter, Enoch T.

Painter--In this city, on the 30th alt., Enoch T. Painter, aged 59 years, 3 months and 25 days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral, without further notice, from his late residence, 1031 Penn street, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Services at the house. Interment private in Charles Evans Cemetery.

Painter, Eric D.

Funeral services were held in the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, for Eric D. Painter, of Benfield Road, Longswamp Township, who died July 29 in Lehigh Valley Hospital of injuries from a motorcycle accident July 16 on State Street in Longswamp Township. Burial was in Huff's Church Union Cemetery, Hereford Township. Born in Pottstown, he was a son of Daniel W. Painter, Brandamore, Chester County, and Catherine D. (Fosmer) Painter, with whom he resided. He had attended Brandywine Heights Area High School. Since February, he was employed by Ray's Auto Body, Macungie. He had been previously employed as a general laborer by Tyler Pipe, Macungie. Also surviving are a sister, Heather L. Painter, at home; a stepsister, Amanda L. Reinhard, at home; and a stepbrother, Laven D. Painter, Brandamore. Other survivors include his stepfather, Ronald L. Stoudt, at home; and his stepmother, Melinda G. (Neff) Painter, Brandamore. There is also his paternal grandmother, Patricia A. (Page) Painter, Downingtown, Chester County.

Painter, Katherine E.

Among the local survivors of Katherine E. (Naugle) Painter, 80, of Reading, who died June 5 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient one month, is a brother, Muard M. Naugle Jr., Strausstown.

Palm, Joseph G. Sr.

Joseph G. Palm Sr., 81, of Chester Street, died Jan. 10 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Dec. 15.

Born in Seyfert, Robeson Township, he was a son of the late William J. Sr. and Emma L. (Moyer) Palm.

Palm had been employed for more than 40 years as a truck driver, last working for Red Star Express, retiring in 1987.

Palm was a life member of Teamsters Local 429 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 38, Reading.

He is also survived by a son, Joseph G. Jr., Mohnton, and a daughter, Joette D. (Palm) Bisbano, Exeter Township.

Other survivors include three sisters: Catherine (Palm) Isett and Manilla Palm, both of Shillington, and Emma (Palm) Focht, Reading; and five brothers: Charles, Paul P. and David A., all of Reading; George D. Sr., Stony Creek Mills; and Walter C., Mount Penn.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Auman Funeral Homes, Reiffton. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Pannepacker, Lester F.

Funeral services were held for Lester F. Pannepacker, 74, of Pennepacker Lane, Bechtelsville, husband of Sharon L. (Emswiler) Pannepacker, who died June 3 in the Sanatoga Center in Lower Pottsgrove. Born in Clayton, Berks County, he worked as a maintenance foreman for Eastern Foundry of Boyertown for 43 years until his retirement in 1991. Pannepacker served in the Army during the Korean War. He attended Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ in Bechtelsville. Pannepacker was a member of the National Rifle Association. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Boyertown for many years. In addition to his wife of 13 years, he is survived by two sons, Shane Pannepacker of Florida and Clay Pannepacker of Oley; one daughter, Tara Renninger of Bechtelsville; one stepson, Todd E. Stickler of Germantown, Md.; one stepdaughter, Tracy L. Mauger of Quarryville, Lancaster county. Also a sister, Frances P. Kurtz of Gilbertsville; six grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister. Contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice. The arrangements were handled by the Morrell Funeral Home, Boyertown.

Parette, Mary (nee Burket)

Word has been received by Mrs. Howard Rhein, 621 North Ninth street, of the death of her daughter Mary, wife of Duncan Parette (nee Burket), of Dunellen, NJ, aged 39 years. Besides the husband, who is an electrical engineer, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Dana Luigard, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Robert Kolb and Forence Rhein. The body will be brought to this city for burial. Interment will be made in Charles Evans Cemetery.

Parlaman, Marian (nee Griffith)

Clement D. Parlaman, 703 North Sixth street, received a telegram announcing the death of his mother, Mrs. Marian Parlaman, widow of Edward Parlaman, in Brooklyn, N.Y., aged 78 years. Death was due to old age and general debility.

Deceased was a daughter of Joseph and Mary Griffith and resided in this city until 20 years ago when she moved to Brooklyn, to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Nancy Callaghan. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

These children remain: Mrs. Emma Mock and Mrs. Nancy Callahan, Brooklyn, N.Y., Clement, of this city; William, Devon, Pa.; Schuyler, Milwaukee, Wis., and Webster, in the West. Eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.

Parmer, June E.

Among the local survivors of June E. (Stolp) Parmer, Trexlertown, who died Nov. 18 in the hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, is a son, Mark Parmer, Topton, and a daughter, Rebecca (Parmer) Theodore, Kutztown.

Parry, Joseph Sr.

Joseph Parry Sr., 67, of North 12th Street, Reading, died Saturday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Janet J. Trythall, Keystone Road, Exeter Township, Berks County. Born in Palo Alto, he was a son of the late Dominick and Jennie Caruso Parry. He was self-employed. Surviving, in addition to his daughter, are two sons, Maurice and Joseph Jr., both of Reading; three other daughters, Teresa M. Printz, East Earl Township, Lancaster County, Susan L. Weihe, Shillington, and Tracey L. Piontek, Temple; five brothers, John and James, both of Fleetwood, Dominick, Las Vegas, Nev., Maurice, Shillington, and Bernie, Millmont; six sisters, Mary Haas, Kenhorst, Julia Thames, Fleetwood, Jennie Umbenhower, Temple, Betty Angelini, Italy, Rose Fornwald, Sinking Spring, and Angelina Melinoski, Hamburg; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Auman Funeral Home, Reiffton. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Rehrersburg, July 8 -- Lester C. Parson, 40, died yesterday in La Plata, Md., where he was employed at the United states Naval Base. He is a son of Lloyd H. and Emma (Strickler) Parson, of Stricklerstown, and was residing in Hermanstown, Md. Surviving are his parents, his widow, Lillian I. (Lutz) Parson; a daughter, Jane Parson, Lancaster County; two brothers, Hoyd Parson, of Newmanstown, and Charles Parson, of Schaefferstown, and a sister, Mildred, wife of Donald Lengel, of Womelsdorf. Funeral Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Schucker Funeral Home, this place, the Rev. A. R. Bachman officiating. Interment in St. Elias Cemetery, Newmanstown.

Parsons, Thomas Livingood

Among the local survivors of Thomas Livingood Parsons, 77, who died Feb. 24 in his Spring Township residence is a stepson, Thomas M. Calvaresi, Penn Township. He was also the president of Hood and Co. Inc., Hamburg, from June 1970 until his retirement in 1982.

Parzanese, Mary

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mary Parzanese, 81, of Orchard Court, St. Lawrence, who died April 24 in Reading Hospital Her husband, John Parzanese, died in 2000. Born in Reading, she had been employed as a cook by Borelli's Cafe, Third and Chestnut Streets, for 30 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Parzanese served as committeewoman for the 5th Ward Democratic Club from 1961 until 1970. She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine (Parzanese) Woodring, Sinking Spring, and Darlene (Parzanese) Sarno, Youngstown, Ohio. There are also five grandchildren. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, handled the arrangements.

Pastor, Leona I.

Among the local survivors of Leona I. Pastor, formerly of Reading, who died Nov. 10 in St. Joseph Hospital, is a son, Anthony Pastor, Blandon.

Pastor, Ronald S.

Services were held for Ronald S. Pastor, 58, companion of Peggy Ann Crugnale, of Nelrose Boulevard in Gilbertsville, who died November 14 in his home. Born in New Jersey, Pastor worked as a printer for Saint Ives Burrups Inc. in Marlton, N.J. In addition to his companion, he is survived by two brothers and a sister. Burial will be in Limerick Garden of Memories in Limerick. The Catagnus Funeral Home, Boyertown, handled the arrangements.

Patrick, Robert J.

Services were held in the Catagnus Funeral Home, Pottstown, for Robert J. Patrick, 53, Berkley Park Road, Ontelaunee Township, who died of natural causes Jan. 20 in the Lebanon Affairs Medical Center. Burial was private. He was the husband of Lenora M. (Strickler) Patrick. Born in Pottstown, he was a son of the late Alfonso J. and Eleanor (Moore) Patrick. He was a Vietnam War Marine Corps. veteran. Also surviving are a daughter, Christina (Patrick) Giorgio, North Coventry Township, Chester County; a son, Christopher R. Patrick, Reading; and three grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Judy Y. (Patrick) Rettew, Gilbertsville, and Patricia A. (Patrick) Query, Pottstown; and two brothers, Daniel Patrick, Palmetto, Fla., and Barry Patrick, Boyertown.

Patt, William N.

Services were held for William N. Patt, 83, of Faber Road, Exeter Township, who died July 7 in Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, Patt was a self-employed plumber for 30 years, retiring in the 1990s. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Patt was a past president, charter member and life member of the Perkiomen Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. He was a life member of the 101 Association, Brookfield, Mass. Surviving are two brothers, Ferris H., Exeter Township, and John F., Gilbertsville; and a sister, Dorothy H. (Patt) Myatt, Stamford, Conn. The Dengler Funeral Home Inc., Birdsboro, handled the arrangements.

Patton, Lewis James

Services for Lewis J. Patton, 84, of 926 Walnut St., who died Thursday afternoon in Veteran's Administration Hospital, Lebanon, where he had been a patient two weeks, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m.

The Rev. John A. Kaercher will officiate in the Whelan & Fleischmann Funeral Home. Burial will be made in the Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Born in Juniata County. he was the son of the late Adam and Ella (Hartman) Patton. His wife, Emily (Kohler) Patton, died July 15, 1964.

An Army veteran of World War I, he is survived by two sons, Lewis J. and John S., both of Reading.

Three daughters: Elizabeth, wife of Nicholas George, and Nancy, wife of James Freeman, both of Reading, and Mary J. wife of Harold Kintz, Bakersfield, Calif., 17 grandchildren and three Great-grandchildren.

Paul, Anna

Paul--In this city, on the 14th inst., Anna wife of Urban Paul, aged 64 years, 3 weeks and 2 days.

Paul, Annette M.

Annette M. Leary Paul, 70, of Quakertown died on May 6, 2003 in her home. She was the wife of the late Lawrence A. Paul. Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Jenny H. Leary. Mrs. Paul was a retired bookkeeper with the Quakertown National Bank. She was a member of Trinity Great Swamp United Church of Christ. She was also a former member of the Humane Society and the Granddaughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by three daughters, Claudia Markellos, Grace Weisel, and Loretta Paul all of Quakertown; and two granddaughters. Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service on Sun. May 18, at 5 pm at the Trinity Great Swamp United Church of Christ, Spinnerstown and County Line Roads, Spinnerstown. Arrangements: Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntington Valley, PA 19006.

Pauley, Edwin

On the day after his wedding to Miss Henel Reinert, on May 9, Edwin Pauley, of Topton, injured his left foot by wearing a pair of tight shoes. Gangrene resulted and he died.

Pauley, Frances A. (nee Kunkle)

Mrs. Frances A. Pauley died of a heart attack yesterday soon after she had finished her lunch during the noon hour at the Hancock Grade School, Mertztown R. 1. The 50-year-old teacher lived about a half-block from the school. She was found at her desk by her pupils, who summoned help. Among them was a daughter Janet. Mrs. Pauley had been under a physician's care for some time. Before being named a teacher in Longswamp Township, 11 years ago, she taught in Freemansburg, Topton, West Reading and Sinking Spring. She was a graduate of Keystone Normal School. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Topton, and the Ladies Bible Class of the Sunday School. She also was a teacher in the Sunday School. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late George and Hattie M. (Peters) Kunkle. Surviving are her husband, R. Clarence Pauley, two daughters, Mae M., wife of Grant Schlegel, Mertztown R. 1, and Janet S., at home, and a granddaughter, Leora Schlegel.

Pauley, Franklin

Franklin Pauley, retired Berks county farmer, passed away yesterday afternoon at his home, 319 E. Main St., Kutztown, from the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 67 years old. Mr. Pauley was born in Hancock, Berks county, the son of the late Daniel and Hannah (Landis) Pauley. For a number of years he had been employed as a railway engineer, leaving this vocation to till a large farm in the Topton area. Only a week ago he moved from Topton to Kutztown. Surviving are his wife, Laura (Eck), and the following children: Clifford, home; Fred, Reading; George and Marguerite, Allentown; Earl, Sinking Spring; four grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Druckenmiller, Catasauqua, and Mrs. Benjamin Loch, Temple. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the DeLong funeral home, Topton. Rev. W. S. Dry of Kutztown will officiate. Interment will take place in Longswamp church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Pauley, Helen V.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Helen V. Pauley, 81, of Klapperthal Road, Exeter Township, who died March 2. She was a resident in the Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, since July. She was the wife of Freeman C. Pauley. Born in Reading, she was employed for 40 years as a finisher by Camp Industries, Reading, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Exeter Township. Pauley is also survived by a daughter, Elaine (Pauley) Wasser, and a son, Daniel R., both of Exeter Township. Other survivors include a sister, Dorothy (Pawlikowski) Entzminger, Exeter Township; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, was in charge of the arrangements.

Pauley, Herbert

Herbert Pauley, of Mertztown, died last night at 10.25 o'clock at the Allentown hospital from a complication of ailments. He was admitted to the institution on October 12. Mr. Pauley, who was married, was 47 years of age.

Pauley, Herbert W.

Stricken with apoplexy while at the village store, Herbert W. Pauley, for many years a resident of Mertztown, died at the Allentown hospital on Friday. He was in his 48th year. Mr. Pauley was the son of Marietta, nee Hilbert, and the late Alfred Pauley and was born in Berks county. He was well known in the community in which he resided and was a faithful member of the Lutheran wing of the Mertztown church. Fraternally he was affiliated with Mertztown Council, No. 444, O. Of I.A., and Washington Camp, No. 172, P.O.S. of A., of Topton. He was employed as a watchman at the plant of the Atlas Paint company. There survive to mourn his loss in addition to his widow, Stella, nee Wisser, Pauley, his mother and one son, Frederick, at home. A grandson also survives. Mr. Pauley was the last of a family of four. Funeral services will be held from his late home at Mertztown on Thursday morning at 10 o�clock with continued services in the Mertztown church. Interment will be made in the Mertztown cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o�clock.

Paulson, William

William Paulson of Mertztown R. D. died at his home early Saturday evening in his 85th year. He was a native of Berlin, Germany, but a naturalized citizen of the United States. Mr. Paulson had led a varied life, having been employed at various times as an iron mine laborer, an oyster picker and a brickyard laborer. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the DeLong funeral home, Topton. Interment in the Topton Union cemetery. Rev. William F. Kline will officiate.

Florence M. Pearson, 91, died June 14 in her residence in Sinking Spring. Her husband, LeRoy W. Pearson, died Dec. 14, 1985. Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Lizzie (Lebo) Hinnershitz. Pearson was employed for 36 years as a pairer by the Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing, retiring in 1967. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, West Reading. Surviving are two brothers, Carl Henne and Charles Hinnershitz, both of Reading. Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Peiffer, James E.

James E. "Ivan" Peiffer, 44, Reading, died of natural causes April 29 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 25. Born in Harrisburg, he was a son of James L. Jr. and Betty M. (Kintzer) Peiffer, Reading. He had been employed for eight years as a materials handler by Morgan Corp., Ephrata. Peiffer, who resided with Allison A. Ream, is also survived by a son, Jordan O., and a daughter, Sarah A. Peiffer, both at home. Other survivors include a brother, David A., Easton, Northampton County; and two sisters, Michelle L. (Peiffer) Jumper, Middletown, Dauphin County, and Kathaleen L. (Peiffer) Worthing, Hahndorf, Australia. Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Richard and Jane (Wilson) Suhay, Exeter Township. Peiffer, John Earl

John Earl Peiffer, son of Mrs. Lizzie Arms, born June 3, 1914, Strausstown, was baptized in infancy by Rev. I. W. Klick and was confirmed in Zions Church, Strausstown, Oct. 15, 1927, by Rev. Geo. S. Kressley, supply pastor. He died Sunday, Nov. 27, 1932 in their home in W. Leesport, at the age of 18 years, 5 months and 24 days, and is survived by his mother, one sister, grandfather Degler, and two aunts. He was a member of Trinity Sunday School, Leesport. He was buried Dec. 1, 1932 with services in the home and Zions Church, Strausstown, where burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Pelker, Gerald J. Sr.

Gerald J. Pelker Sr., 67, of Denver, Lancaster County, died September 29 in Ephrata Community Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara G. (Fisher) Pelker. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Ruth (Heft) Pelker. He was a machine operator for Luden's, Reading for 43 years, retiring in 2001. Gerald was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. Other survivors include one son, Gerald J., Jr., Wyomissing and two daughters Cindy L., Denver and Amber L., Ephrata. There are also one brother, Robert, Reading, three sisters, June (Pelker) Van Pelt, West Lawn, Arlene (Pelker) Guti, Reading and Joan (Pelker) Aquila, Shillington. One grandson also survives him. Pennypacker Jr., John S.

Funeral services were held for John S. Pennypacker Jr., 53, husband of Shirly Pennypacker, of Texarkana, Texas, who died March 27. Pennypacker moved to Andover, Mass., and then to Texas last year after moving from Boyertown, where he was a long time resident. He was the son of Cynthia Ivy Pennypacker of Andover, Mass., and the late John S. Pennypacker. Pennypacker graduated from Lansdowne Aldan High School, where he lettered in three sports. He attended West Chester University where he majored in physical education and played on the baseball and football teams. Pennypacker had a career in business, selling hardware and sporting goods. In addition to his wife and mother are two children, Jared and Erin Pennypacker, both of Boyertown; two stepchildren, Wil Davis of Pine, Colo., and Pennie Potts of Texarkana; and three sisters. The Chapelwood Funeral Home of Texarkana, Texas, handled the arrangements.

Pennypacker, William C.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for William C. Pennypacker, 87, formerly of Earlville, who died February 15 in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville. He was taken there from Country Meadows, Wyomissing. His wife, Ellen L. (Swope) Pennypacker, died in 2000. Born in Reading, he had been employed for 35 years as a railroad engineer by the Reading Co., retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Columbkill Roman Catholic Church, Boyertown. Pennypacker was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Reading, and the Pocono Beagle Club, Leesport. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. (Pennypacker) Forester, Wyomissing. Other survivors include two sisters; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Entombment was in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, was in charge of the arrangements.

Services were held for Sylvia (Keller) Pergola, 85, of Poplar Drive, Douglassville, formerly of Terrace Lane, Pottstown, who died May 5 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she worked for the accounting department of Levitz Co., Pottstown, for 15 years until her retirement in 1977. She was a former member of Congregation Mercy & Truth Synagogue, Pottstown, where she was a member of the sisterhood. She was a member of the Pottstown Senior Center. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Fisher of Pittsburgh, Lisa Shollenberger of Douglassville and Deborah Smoyer of North Coventry; one brother; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Mrs. Alice M. (Burley) Perkins, widow of William F. Perkins, died yesterday in Allentown Hospital. She was 90. She resided at 1014 Green St., Allentown. Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Villian (Bear) Burley. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Allentown. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy, wife of Sauerwine of Eau Gallie, Fla.; a brother, Martin L., Allentown R. 2, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown. There will be no viewing.

Services were held held in Zions United Church of Christ, Maxatawny, for Donald R. Peters, who died of natural causes June 6 in his Church Road, Maxatawny Township residence. Burial was in Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery. He was predeceased by his wife, Dianne V. (Kressley) Peters, who died Sept. 27, 1997. Born in Fogelsville, he was a son of the late Russell N. and Laura M. (Wertman) Peters. From 1979 to 1999 he was the owner/operator of County Line Disposal Co., Kutztown. He previously worked as a butcher for Arbogast and Bastian Meat Packing, Allentown, for 20 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran. Peters was a recipient of the presidential award for the Optimist of the Year in 2000. He was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Zions Union Church, where he served on the consistory and cemetery board. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy A. (Peters) ONeil and Julie A. (Peters) Karaisz, both of Kutztown. There are also two grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Roma (Peters) Sell, New Tripoli, and Jean (Peters) Kemp, Lyons. Services were held in Friedens United Church of Christ, Lenhartsville, for Jean I. Peters, 66, of Edenburg, Windsor Township, who died of natural causes April 20 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient one day. Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery. She was the wife of Robert C. Peters. Born in Greenwich Township, she was a daughter of the late George and Marie (Oswald) Adam. She was a 1954 graduate of Kutztown High School. Until retiring in 1963, she was employed as a secretary by Peter Brothers, Lenhartsville, for six years. She also worked from her home as a piano teacher for 40 years. Peters was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Lenhartsville. Surviving are a son, David R. Peters, at home, and a daughter, Dyane M. (Peters) Koller, Greenwich Township. Joyce K. Peters, 70, Tilden Township, died July 24 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for three days. She was taken there from Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township. Her husband, Charles E. Peters, died Sept. 14, 1998. Born in Bernville, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Evelyn (Steinmetz) Groff. Peters had been employed for 42 years by Globe Knitting Mill, Shoemakersville, until 2000. She later worked for Lyons Knitwear, Temple. She was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Shoemakersville. Peters is survived by a son, Ronald C., Hamburg. Other survivors include two sisters, Verna (Groff) Reimert, Kutztown, and Gloria (Groff) Kauffman, Tilden Township; and two brothers, Ralph Groff, Shoemakersville, and Carl Groff, Leesport. There are also three grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by a son, Randall L., in April 1989. Peters, 99, formerly of Main Street, Shoemakersville, who died Nov. 13 in Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where she had resided one year. Burial was in St. Luke's Cemetery, Shoemakersville. She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy G. Peters, who died March 8, 1989. Born in Shoemakersville, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Cora (Riegel) Heiter. Until retiring in 1977, she was employed as a machine operatot by various knitting mills in the area for many years. She was also employed as a licensed practical nurse at the Bricker Nursing Home, Reading. She was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. Surviving are a daughter, Sarah A. (Peters) Smith, Broomfield, Colo.; and two sons, Merlin C. Peters, Abilene, Texas, and Melvin L. Peters, Shoemakersville. There are also five grandchildren, a great-grandson and three step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Charless E. Peters, who died in 1998. Peters, Sarah Alvina (nee Fenstermaker)

Mrs. Sarah Alvina Peters, nee Fenstermaker, wife of Benjamin F. Peters, died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday morning at 10.15 o'clock at her home, 1627 Allen street. She was in her 85th year. Although in failing health for the past year, the death of the venerable lady came as an unexpected shock to her family and friends for the reason that nothing serious was anticipated. Her husband is seriously ill and has been confined to bed since November. Mrs. Peters was born in Longswamp township, a daughter of Benjamin and Sarah, nee Conrath, Fenstermaker, and had lived in this city for upwards of twenty years. She was a faithful member of Ziegel's church. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Snyder, Breinigsville R. 1, and Mrs. Jacob Leibensperger, Mertztown R. 1; two sons, Milton H., Bethlehem, and George Peters, Virginsville, together with ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at her late home on Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. H. Ehret officiating. Interment will be made in Ziegel's church cemetery. Friends may call at the house on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.

Catherine Petroski, 91, of 501 Spruce St., Reading, died Tuesday at the Berks County Home, Berks Heim Annex, Bern Township. Born in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Agata Rzonca Wiencek. She attended St. Anthony School, Cumbola, and Blythe Township High School. She was employed for many years by the former Fitwell Manufacturing Co., Reading, and various other local garment factories before retirement. She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Surviving are a son, Walter L. Petroski, at home, and a sister, Betty Wiencek Murtha, Missouri City, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Tuckerton. Petroski of Amity; two daughters, Sherry Lynn Erb of North Coventry and Heidi Jean Kreider of Amity. Also, two sisters; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Marian V. Petry, 94, formerly of McKeansburg, died Tuesday evening at Phoebe-Berks Home, Wernersville, where she lived since November 2000. Born in Auburn, Aug. 18, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mame Shaner Hemmer. She was a member of Kimmel's Evangelical Free Church, Orwigsburg, and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. Her husband, John C., died May 25, 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy R. Francis, Reading; a son, John F., Burlington, N.C.; a sister, Frances Webber, Wernersville; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday from Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 37 St. John St., Schuylkill Haven. The Rev. Donald Baker will officiate. Born in Reading, Petsch had been employed for 36 years by Rockland Furniture, Robesonia, retiring as dock foreman in 1996. He previously worked as a heavy equipment operator for D. B. Diefenderfer and Brother Inc., St. Lawrence. He was a member of Zion Spies Church, Alsace Township. Petsch was an Army veteran of the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart. He is also survived by five sons: Kim D. and Kevin L., both of Reading; Scott A., Temple; Kerry J., Hanover, York County; and Shannon P., Wyomissing. Other survivors include a brother; two sisters; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township. Arlene M. Pfeifly, 71, of 214 Robin Hill Rd., Greenwich Twp., formerly of New Tripoli, Lehigh Co., died Thursday at 9:30 am in St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown, where she had been a patient since Nov. 8. She was the wife of Franklin T. Pfeifly. Born in Tilden Twp., she was a daughter of the late Bertus V. and Esther S. (Seaman) Shollenberger. Pfeifly was employed 15 years as a sewing machine operator by the former Burkey Knitting Mill, Hamburg. She had also been employed 20 years as a sewing machine operator by the former Kempton Sportswear, Lynnville, Lehigh County, retiring in 1987. She is also survived by two sons Preston B., Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, and Daniel W., Slatington, Lehigh County; and three daughters: Audrey M., wife of Neil P. Merkel, Lenhartsville; Carol A., wife of Dennis J. Dorney, New Tripoli; and Lucille M., wife of Daniel C. Walter, Kempton. Other survivors include three sisters; Evelyn M., wife of James E. Lambert , Kutztown; and Shirley A., wife of Merlin Belton; and Marilyn E. Shollenberger; both of Hamburg. There are also four brothers: Clair B. Shollenberger, Bernville; Mervin J. Shollenberger, Mohrsville; George E. Shollenberger, Bethel; and Larry F. Shollenberger, Shoemakersville. There are 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pflugler, formerly of Reading, who died of natural causes March 1 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was a patient for three days. He had resided in ManorCare Health Services Inc., West Reading, since July 29, 1999. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Frank L. and Sophie M. (Stackno) Pflugler. Phillips, George A.

George A. PHILLIPS, 419 South 6th street, died this morning. Deceased, who was a molder at Harbaters foundry, was burned internally by inhaling the fumes of hot iron while pouring off his molds. He suffered intensely ever since and was confined to bed from the time he was burned. At times his condition was quite good and his recovery was regarded as certain. He was a member of Meade Camp, Sons of Veterans, and of the Iron Molders Union, and was about 25 years of age. His wife survives him.

Phillips, George I.

George I. Phillips, 2753 Mountain Road, Hamburg, formerly of Auburn, died Thursday at Laurel Center, Genesis Eldercare, Tilden Township, where he lived since October. Born in Greenwich Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Harry F. and Cora M. Bossler Phillips. He retired in 1978, after 37 years as a lineman for Reading Railroad. He was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Vaux Lodge 402, F&AM, both of Hamburg, and a life member of Mount Pleasant and Shoemakersville Fire companies. His wife, the former Mabel C. Faust, died on May 12, 1990. Surviving are two daughters, Ruth A. Hinkle, Blandon, and Sara M. Moyer, Perry Township, Berks County; two sons, Irvin R., Tilden Township, and George A., Windsor Township, both in Berks County; a brother, Nevin F., Tilden Township; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services were held for James David Phillips, 38, formerly of Perkiomenville, who died January 16 in Central Montgomery Medical Center in Lansdale. He was the husband of Sarah (Morabito) Phillips. Phillips was born in Norristown to James L. and Faye L. (Taggart) Phillips of Perkiomenville. He graduated from Perkiomen Valley High School in 1983. Phillips worked for the Danella Construction Co as a builder in Plymouth Meeting, Horgan Brothers in North Wales and Heyser Landscaping in Trooper. He was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ in Schwenksville. In addition to his wife of 10 years and parents, he is survived by a sister. Burial was in Schwenksville Cemetery. Phillips, James B., son of the late James B. and Elizabeth (nee Carver) Phillips was born in Reading, Pa., June 14, 1896 and departed this life in the Reading Hospital, September 26, 1955 at the age of 59 years. Madeline S. Phillips, 62, died of natural causes May 18 at 1:55 a.m. in her residence in Centre Township. She was the wife of Ronald J. Phillips. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William and Susie (Barth) Dufft. Phillips was employed for three years as a credit manager by J.C. Penney Department Store, Muhlenberg Township, and was last employed for five years as manager of Spectrum Showcase, Muhlenberg Township, last working in 1990. She was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Township. Phillips was a past president of the 50-plus club at Grace (Alsace) United Church of Christ, Hyde Park. She is also survived by two sons, Bernard F., Muhlenberg Township, and Michael P., Hamburg; and two daughters, Diana L. (Phillips) Edwards, Hamburg, and Lynn M. Phillips, Maidencreek Township. Marian G. Born in Frackville, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Gertrude Graeff Rupp. She was employed for 20 years as a telephone operator for Monoson Telephone Answering Service, Reading, until 1981, and retired in 1984 as a telephone operator by Ford's Communications Service, Reading. Her husband, James F., died in 1986. Surviving are two sons, James F. Jr., Charlottesville, Va., and David T., Hamburg; two daughters, Gloria J. Hoffa and Diane Thiel, both of Reading; a brother, Harry Rupp, Frackville; a sister, Evelyn Kollins, Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Martin L. Phillips, 85, Penn Township, died Aug. 3 at 10 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. His wife, Esther R. (Riegel) Phillips, died May 6, 2000. Born in Centre Township, he was a son of the late James and Annie (Stein) Phillips. Phillips had been employed for many years as a machinist by Arrow International, Wyomissing, until his retirement. He was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township, where he was a past councilman. Phillips was past president of Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Township. Phillips, Phoebe D. (nee Ketterer)

Mrs. Phoebe D. (Ketterer) Phillips, 77, wife of Thomas J. Phillips of 52 Franklin St., Emerald, died yesterday at her home. Born in Mertztown, she was a daughter of the late George and Helen (Pilgert) Ketterer. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Slatedale. She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1962. Surviving with her husband are seven sons, Earl Sterner of Emerald, George Phillips of Slatington, Ralph of Germansville, Harold of Schnecksville, LeRoy of Slatington R. 2, Franklin of Slatington R. 1, and Carl of Allentown; two daughters, Margaret, wife of Gordon Snyder, and Mildred, wife of Edward Wanamaker, both of Emerald; 27 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Richard A. Heintzelman Funeral Home, 54 Summit Road, Schnecksville. Viewing will be 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Shirley L. Phillips, 62, Reading, died June 2 at 5:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center, where she had been a patient for one month. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of Ruth M. Ritz, a resident at Berks Heim, and the late Edwin Ritz. Phillips had been employed for 22 years as a secretary by Singer Equipment, Laureldale, last working in January. She was a 1961 graduate of Reading High School. Phillips is also survived by a daughter, Lori A. Phillips, Kenhorst, and a son, Stephen R., Shillington. Other survivors include a sister, SaraJane Ritz, Tampa, Fla., and a brother, Jeffrey S. Ritz, Temple. There are also four grandchildren. Burial will be private. Phillips, Solon C.

Solon C. Phillips, 79, of 612 Linden Ave., Muhlenberg Park, died Thursday at 3:45 a.m. in the Leader Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Laureldale, where he had been a patient since Jan. 6. He was the husband of Verna G. (Gruber) Phillips. Born in Centre Township, he was a son of the late Henry K. and Bertha (Loose) Phillips. Phillips, an Army veteran of World War II, was a self-employed soil conservation contractor for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was named Soil Conservationist of the Year by the Berks County Conservation District in 1980. He was a graduate of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, and Union Theological Seminary, New York City. Other survivors include two sons, Jan C., Allentown, and Lee K., Haddon Heights, N.J.; a brother, J. Harold, Carlyle; and a sister, Susan, wife of George Somers, Weatherly, Carbon County. Verna G. Phillips, 80, formerly of 612 Linden Ave., Muhlenberg Park, was dead on arrival Saturday at 9:25 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been taken from the Highlands at Wyomissing. Her husband, Solon C. Phillips, died Jan. 24, 1991. Born in Leesport, she was a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Ellen L. (Potteiger) Gruber. Surviving are two sons, Jan C., Allentown, and Lee K., Haddon Heights, N.J., and a sister, Esta G. Schweyer, Reading. There are also three grandchildren. Phillips, Virginia M.

Services were held in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Virginia M. Phillips, who died March 25 in her Indian Trail Road, Centre Township residence. Burial was in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer H. Phillips, who died July 9, 2001. Born in Bern Township, she was a daughter of the late Walter M. and Emma R. (Roth) Strause. Until retiring in 1987, she was employed as a sewing machine operator by the Crown Knitting Mill, Mohrsville, for 40 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Belleman's Union Church, Centre Township. Phillips was a greeter at the One-Room Schoolhouse Historical Society, Lenhartsville, for three years. She was a member of the Central Berks Fire Co., Centerport; the Goodwill Beneficial Association, Hyde Park; and the Berks Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. Surviving are three daughters, Donna M. (Phillips) Shinton, Leesport; Diane M. (Phillips) Zweizig, Shoemakersville; and Denise M. (Phillips) White, Mohrsville. There are also five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and a great-grandson. Memorial services were held in Epler's United Church of Christ, Bern Township, for June E. Pieller of Ramich Road, Muhlenberg Township, who died of natural causes March 5 in her residence. Burial was in North Heidelberg Cemetery. She was the wife of Larry A. Pieller. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of Thomas C. Sr. and Geraldine (Sensenig) Reifsnyder, Bernville. She graduated from Conrad Weiser High School. Last working in December, Pieller was employed for seven years as a baker by the Muhlenberg School District. Pieller was a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 124, Laureldale, and Pack 150, Hyde Park, Westmoreland County, where she was also a committee member. She was a member of Epler's Church. Surviving are two sons, Adam D. and Daniel A., both at home. Also surviving are five brothers: Thomas C. Reifsnyder, Jr. and Lee Reifsnyder, both of Bernville; Jeffrey Reifsnyder, Mohrsville; Peter Reifsnyder, Leesport; and Scott Reifsnyder, Gouglersville. Annamae M. Pierce, 89, died March 30 at 11:35 a.m. in her residence in Muhlenberg Township. Her husband, Donald Pierce, died in 1976. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Emmaline (Boynton) Moser. Surviving are a brother, James F. Moser, West Lawn; and three sisters: June E. (Moser) Leinbach, in Virginia; Florence (Moser) Hoch, Reading; and Bertha (Moser) Bubp, Baltimore. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Pierce, and a daughter, Nancy Pierce. Private services and burial was arranged by the Gallman-Sonoski Funeral Home, Reading, for Eva J. Pietrowicz, of Martin Avenue, Greenfields, who died July 29 in Berks Leisure Living, Bern Township, where she had resided one month. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Simone and Antoinette (Scolastico) Matz. She was a 1934 graduate of Reading High School. Until retiring in 1992, she was employed as a waitress by several restaurants and was also employed as a companion by Berks Home Care of Wyomissing. Surviving are a daughter, Antoinette (Pietrowicz) Sweitzer, Reading, and a grandson.

Topton, Feb. 4--Annie E. (Reinert), 62, widow of Milton Pilgert, formerly of Furnace Street, this borough, died last night in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Snyder, Collegeville. She was a daughter of the late Lewis and Emma (Berky) Reinert, and was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Longswamp Church.

Surviving are the daughter at whose home she died; four sons: John, Leroy and Robert, all of Topton, and Ralph, Kutztown; five grandchildren; two brothers: Charles Reinert, Topton and Wallace, of Allentown, and a sister, Mrs. William Rauenzahn, Topton.

Services Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Schofer Funeral Home, this borough, the Rev. Wilson H. Hartzell officiating. Burial in Longswamp Cemetery.

Charles H. Pilgert, 45, died at the home of his mother near Henningsville on Sunday. He was a lifelong invalid and was bedfast the past five years. Surviving besides his mother are these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Alvin F. Kemp, Mertztown; Mrs. George Keim, Alburtis R.D. 1; Morris, Mertztown R.D. 1; Milton, Topton; Frank, Landis Store; William, Mertztown; Albert, Mertztown R.D. 1, and James, at home. Pilgert, Ellen (nee Dankel)

Mrs. Ellen Pilgert, 74, of Mertztown, was fatally stricken with an apoplectic stroke at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon as she crossed Hamilton St. at Race St. to enter the Central railroad station. She was taken to Sacred Heart hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Mrs. Pilgert was found lying in the car tracks by Louis Schrampf and Felix Kovonet, both of Coplay, and was taken to the hospital in the automobile of Stanley C. DeHaven, 1533 Turner St. Identification was made possible by a department store charge check found in her purse. Capt. of Detectives William Detweiler and Detective Wallace Yeager proved identification by contacting the store which issued the check and where she had shopped earlier in the afternoon. Coroner Alexander M. Peters, M.D., viewed the body at the hospital and said death was due to apoplexy. Mrs. Pilgert was born in Ohio, a daughter of the late Reuben and Sophia, nee Stauffer, Dankel. She was a member of the Reformed wing of the Mertztown church. Besides her husband, Henry P. Pilgert, she is survived by one son, Henry P. Pilgert, Drexel Hill; one daughter, Julia F. Pilgert, Irvington, N.J., and one granddaughter. She also leaves one brother, George F. Dankel, Reading, and two sisters, Mrs. Jeremiah Gulden, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Addie S. Haas, Reading. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Henry E. Pilgert, aged 85 years, 6 months and 20 days, died Sunday of apoplexy and general debility, at the home of his son-in-law, Luther Fritch, in Mertztown, after being bedfast 14 weeks. His wife died 26 years ago. He leaves a sister, Isabella Pilgert, of Longswamp, and these children: Mrs. Luther Fritch and Henry, Mertztown; Mrs. William Kettinger, Reading, and George, Allentown. Pilger, Howard Sylvester

Shamrock news. The well known local merchant of Huff's Church, Howard Sylvester Pilgert, was buried at Huff's church May 29, following services held, amidst a large attendance of relatives and friends. Four pastors took part in the services. The scripture lesson was read by Rev. Daniel Wetzel, pastor of the First Reformed church in Reading; Rev. W. F. Bond, the deceased's pastor followed with prayer and an English sermon; Rev. J. N. Blatt, the widow's pastor, who offered the prayer at the house, delivered a German sermon. Rev. Fred D. Wentzel, Philadelphia, superintendent of leadership training of the Reformed church in the U.S., spoke words of appreciation for the charitable dealings of the departed with Camp Mensch in past years. Rev. Alfred N. Sayres, Lansdale, one of the camp officials, was also present. The pallbearers were: Morris, Frank, Albert and Milton Pilgert, M. Ray and Ira L. Leeser, Robert DeLong and George Keim. There were many and beautiful floral tributes. The Huff's choir, led by Raymond G. Albitz, sang a number of selected hymns.

Mrs. Minnie L. (Kemp) Pilgert, 78, of Alburtis R. 1, died yesterday at home. Born in District Township, she was the widow of Frank P. Pilgert and a daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Frane) Kemp. She was a member of the Lutheran Congregation of Huffs Union Church, Barto R. 1. Surviving are two daughters, Helen May at home and Carrie I., wife of William Ganler, of Alburtis R. 1. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Huff's Union Church, Barto R. 1. Morris L. Pilgert died Sunday at his home in Longswamp Township, along Mertztown R. 1. He was the son of Sarah E. Shoemaker and the late John Pilgert. He was employed by the Topton Foundry Co. for 24 years, a member of the Moulder's Union, No. 117 of Topton, and affiliated with St. Paul's Lutheran church, Mertztown. Surviving are his widow, Sara, nee Moyer, Pilgert; mother, residing at Mertztown R. 1; sisters, Mrs. Alvin Kemp and Mrs. George Kein of Mertztown; brothers, Milton, of Topton, Frank of Landis Store, William, Albert and James of Mertztown. Services will be held from the late home, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Luther Schlenker officiating. Interment at the Union cemetery, Mertztown.

Mr. Reuben Pilgert died on Sunday evening at 6.30 o'clock at his late home in Shamrock, after a lingering illness with dropsy. He was 70 years, 1 month and 8 days old. He is survived by three children: Mrs. George McKollem, of Allentown; Mrs. Milton Romig, of Shamrock, and Miss Ella, at home. Also one borther and sister survive him: Henry and Mrs. Isabella Bitting, both of Mertztown. His wife preceded him in death 8 years ago. Funeral will be held on Thursday from his late home to which relatives and friends are respectfully invited without further notice.

Services were held in the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, for Russel H. Pilgert, of College Boulevard, Kutztown, formerly of Mertztown, who died March 21 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Mertztown. He was the husband of Norma M. (Tobias) Pilgert. Born in Longswamp Township, he was a son of the late William and Carrie M. (Fegley) Pilgert. Until retiring in 1984, he was employed as a tank liner by Altas Minerals and Chemicals, Mertztown, for 35 years. Pilgert was a World War II Army veteran. Also surviving are a son, Russel M. Pilgert, and a daughter, Connie M. Pilgert, both of Kempton. There are also three grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Ruby R. (Pilgert) Koch, Macungie, Lehigh County, and Lucy S. (Pilgert) Braun, Allen Park, Mich.

Pilgert, William M.

William M. Pilgert, aged 69 years, died of complications at his home, Reading, on Monday, after an illness of nearly two months. He was a native of Longswamp township and was employed by the Eisenlohr Cigar company for more than 23 years. He was a cigarmaker by trade and for about 18 years resided at terre Hill. On January 4, 1930, Mr. and Mrs. Pilgert would have observed their golden wedding anniversary. He was a member of the Evangelical Congregational church, Reading; a charger member of the Knights of Malta and P.O.S. of A., and was also affiliated with the Knights of the Mystic Chain, all of Terre Hill, and the Eisenlohr Relief Association. He at one time served as president of the Terre Hill P.O.S. of A. Besides his widow, Lucinda (Studenroth), he is survived by two half-brothers, Horace Yoder, of Mertztown, and James Yoder, Allentown, and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Laudenslager, Allentown, and Ida, wife of Frank Flickinger, Terre Hill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Dec. 13 in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown, for Franciszek "Frank" A. Pisarek, who died Dec. 9 in his Riviera Drive, Blandon residence. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith "Jackie" (Jackson) Pisarek, who died Sept. 21, 1986. Born in Pawlowice, Poland, he was the son of the late Franciszek and Maria Pisarek. He graduated with a degree in structural engineering and a professional engineering certificate from the Polish University, London, England. Pisarek was employed as a structural engineer at the former Gilbert's Associates, Reading, from 1972 to 1987. He was a World War II veteran of the Polish Army. Pisarek was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown. Surviving are two sons, Paul F. Pisarek, Parryville, Md., and Anthony T. Pisarek, Birdsboro; and four daughters: Krystyna M. (Pisarek) Berger, Tampa, Fla.; Jacqueline T. (Pisarek) Kostick, Sinking Spring; Mary E. (Pisarek) Linderman, Leesport; and Carol A. (Pisarek) Peters, with whom he resided. She was taken to the medical center from ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township. Pledger was the wife of Daniel D. Pledger, Washington, D.C. Born in Reading, she was an Air Force veteran. A 1979 graduate of Reading High School and a 1990 graduate of the Computer Learning Center, Alexandria, Va., she also attended Cheyney University. Surviving are a daughter, Micha D. Jenkins, Washington; and four sons: Noel L. Jenkins, serving with the Army, and Timothy Pledger and twins Joshua and Jonathan Pledger, all of Washington. Other survivors include a brother; a half brother and a half sister. Also her paternal grandmother; Elbertha (Garcia) Jenkins, Williamsport; her maternal grandmother, Mary E. Services were held for Harvey H. Plowfield, 67, of Old Airport Road, Amity Township, who died May 9, in his residence. He was the husband of Phyllis Plowfield. His first wife, Ethel M. (Brower) Plowfield, died in 1990. Born in Reading, he was self-employed for many years in the computer industry, retiring in 1998. Plowfield was a 1952 graduate of Wyomissing High School and received a master's degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University in 1958. He was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Hyde Park. He was a 32nd-degree Mason with Merchantville, N.J., Lodge 119, Free and Accepted Masons. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters, Tracy L. (Plowfield) White, Philadelphia, and Bettina M. (Plowfield) Bonner, Mohnton. Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Kimberly L. (Ertell) Courtney, Hamilton Township, N.J.; and two sisters. Ida B. Pucker, 94, formerly of Reading, died Tuesday at Wyomissing Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Maidencreek Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Benneville S. and Candes Koller Burkert. She was a machine operator for the former Lyons Knitwear, Temple, before she retired in 1965. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Reading. Her husband, Herbert A. Sr., died in 1946. Surviving are two daughters, Ardell I., Philadelphia, and C. Isabel, Mohnton; four sons, William B., Deer Lake, Herbert A., Sacramento, Richard A., Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Myron L., Reinholds; a sister, Helen I., Hamburg; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Services over the remains of Raymond D. Plucker, son of John and Savilla Plucker, were held at the residence of the parents, 226 Wood. John Pocius, 76, of Pennsburg, passed away on Feb. 27, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital, Quakertown. He was the husband of Stella M. (Chobot) Pocius. They were married for 53 years. Born in Maspeth, N.Y. he was the son of the late Dominic and Kunigunda (Prinevich) Pocius. He was a Project Manager for the former Pillsbury Co. in East Greenville for 33 years before he retired in 1990. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of the National Rifle Assoc. In addition to his wife Mr. Pocius is survived by a son, David L. of San Francisco of Calif; a daughter, Debra L. Christman of Palm; one brother, Edward of Pennsburg; four sisters, Sophie Walczak of Pennsburg, Anna Studly of Quakertown, Bertha Fawcett of Sellersville and Ruth Talacki of Hunnington Valley. Poh, John

John Poh, a well known resident of Siegersville, died Monday after a stroke of apoplexy there. He was 61 years old. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Poh, his father being a prominent Berks county undertaker. Upon the death of his parents at Longswamp, Mr. Poh moved many years ago to Siegersville, where he followed varied occupations until entering the employ of Ralph Grammes, proprietor of the grain, feed and lumber store. Mr. Poh is survived by a sister, whose exact place of residence is not known. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 1.30 o�clock, with services in the Longswamp church cemetery by Rev. Wesley Wenner.

John Franklin Poh, aged 76 years, died yesterday at his home in Shillington, Berks county, from a complication of ailments. Mr. Poh, during his younger days, served various firms in his neighborhood. He was a son of Nathan and Mary (Long) Poh and was born in Longswamp township. He is survived by two brothers, Nathan, of Mertztown R.D., and Peter, of Wescosville, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Tobias. The funeral will be held from the home of George Blank, Mertztown R.D., on Wednesday at 2 p.m. All services at the house. Interment in Longswamp church cemetery.

A Funeral Mass was held for Esther C. (Drexler) Polischeck, 66, widow of Robert William Polischeck, of Boyertown, who died August 2 in her home. Born in Reading, she was a 1955 graduate of Reading High School. Polischeck worked for Linda's Beauty Shop in Boyertown for many years. She also worked for C and D Catering in Boyertown. She was a member of St. Columbkill's Church in Boyertown. Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Polischeck of Earlville; one son, Leo Polischeck of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park in Pottstown. The arrangements were handled by the Houck and Gofus Funeral Home, Pottstown.

Sophie Polit, 83, of 489 Christmas Village Road, Bernville, Berks County, died Wednesday at Pottsville Hospital. Born in Trenton, Aug. 20, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Demkovich Skawinsky. She formerly lived in Trenton and Delano. She was employed as a trimmer at City Shirt, Mahanoy City. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, and Minersville Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; four sisters, Stephina Wank, Helen Mileshosky, Madeline Skawinsky and Mary Figel; two brothers, Joe and Walter. Surviving are a brother, Stiney Skawinsky; two daughters, Mary P. Leitzel and Helen P. Furman, both of Bernville; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Louis Truskowsky Funeral Home, Mahanoy City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Pool, Anita C.

Services were held for Anita C. Pool, 82, of Hill Road, Amity Township, who died November 26 in Lehigh Valley Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Pool. Born in Fallingston, Bucks County, she was employed for more than 27 years as librarian for Pennsbury High School, Bucks County, retiring in 1985. She was a graduate of West Chester Teacher's College, and Rutgers University, Piscataway, N.J., with a master's degree in library science. Pool was a member for 75 years of First Presbyterian Church, Morrisville, Bucks County. Surviving are two sons, David C., with whom she resided, and Robert C., Lansdale. Other survivors include five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Burial was in Newtown Cemetery. The arrangements were handled by the Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, Morrisville.

Poole, Alexander

Services were held for Alexander Poole, 90, husband of Beatrice Virginia Dews Poole, of Pine Forge, who died January 2 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. Born in Wattsville, Va., he attended public school in Accomack, Va. He worked as a horse farmer in Virginia and then as a longshoreman in Baltimore. Poole later moved to Ethers, where he operated a dairy farm for more than 65 years. He was chairman of the Pennsylvania Black Farmers Association. Poole was a member of the Walnut Street Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pottstown, where he was the head elder and the Adventist men's leader. He founded the Hillside Seventh Day Adventist Church in Harrisburg and was a member of a church of the same name in Binghamton, N.Y. He was a licensed missionary at the Allegheny East Conference. Poole was a member of the Oakwood and Pine Forge Alumni Associations. He was also a member of the Democratic National Committee and the NAACP Reading Branch. In 1984, he received one of six awards for outstanding conservation farmers of the year from Berks County. Poole was a singer with the Pine Forge Harmonies. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Anthony A. Poole of Baltimore and Kevin G. Poole Sr. of Pine Forge; two daughters, Kate Tapper of Philadelphia and Diedra A. Poole Alston of Pine Forge. Also a sister; two brothers; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Mount Zion AME Church Cemetery. The arrangements were handled by the DeBaptiste Funeral Homes of West Chester and Bryn Mawr.

Services will be Wednesday for Rebecca A. Poore, 31, of Stonetown Road, Exeter Township, formerly of Magnolia Avenue, Riverview Park, who died April 12 in her residence. She was the wife of Alan J. Poore. Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of Rose A. (Wert) Ruggiero, Spring Township, and the late Joseph M. Ruggiero. She had been employed since 1995 in the Early Intervention Department of the Berks County Intermediate Unit. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton. Poore was a 1990 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. She received a bachelor's degree in speech pathology in 1994 and a master's degree in reading education in 2000, both from Kutztown University. She is also survived by her maternal grandfather, C. Benton Wert, Temple, and a brother, Joseph M. Ruggiero, Exeter Township. She was predeceased by twin daughters in July. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Walter R. Poper, John P.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held for John P. Poper, 70, of Neversink Road, Exeter Township, who died March 22 in the Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where he had been a patient. He was the husband of Helen (Kostick) Poper. Born in Reading, he was employed for 40 years by Continental Can Co., Reading, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Millmont. Poper was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three sisters. Burial was private. The Kopicki-Bradley Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

Porreco, Peter

Boy Drowns in Creek. West Reading Child's Body Recovered by State Policemen. West Reading, Aug. 7 (Special). Peter Porreco, son of Anthony and Angelena (Fantelli) Porreco, 344 Franklin street, this borough, was drowned Tuesday afternoon while wading in the shallow water of the Wyomissing Creek, near the Reading Hospital. The child was aged 4 years, 5 months and 18 days. He went alone from the home of his parents directly to the creek, where he enjoyed himself wading in company with some playmates. The other children left the scene when they heard the music of a parade through town, and the youngster is thought to have slipped into deeper water and been carried out into the middle of the stream.

When he failed to return home local police were notified. The State police barracks was notified and Troopers Cavanaugh, McDonald and Flanagan started dragging the creek. Trooper McDonald located the body after a search of an hour. Deputy Coroner Abner H. Bauscher was notified and conducted an investigation. The child is survived by his parents and these brothers and sisters: Anna, Kathryn, William Nicholas, Esperina and Joseph.

Funeral Director Edmund F. Gallman removed the body to the home of the parents. The funeral will take place on Saturday, with high mass of requiem in Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 8 a.m., Rev. Eugene Marchetti officiating. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, in charge of Funeral Director Gallman.

Port, Nelson S.

Nelson S. Port, 60, of Quakertown died May 14, 2003 in St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Nelson C. and Grace S. (Stewart) Port. He retired in 1999 after 33 years of Service with Bell Telephone Co., now Verizon, in Line Lexington, and was a member of the Communication Workers of America. He was a member of the North Penn Gun Club and the Bettermant Club in Trumbauersville. He is survived by a sister, Linda Feralio of Downingtown. Services were private. Services were held in St. John's (Host) Church, Tulpehocken Township, for Louis R. Porto, 86, who died Dec. 1 in his Summer Mountain Road, Jefferson Township residence. Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery. He was the husband of D. Louise (Gardner) Porto. Born in New York City, he was a son of the late John and Mary A. (Dodge) Porto. Until retiring in 1984, he had been employed as a machinist by Hoffmann Industries, Sinking Spring, for 15 years. He had also been a self-employed dairy farmer in Jefferson Township. Porto was a 1935 graduate of Newtown High School, Queens, N.Y., and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was past national commander and life member of the China, Burma and India Veterans Association. He organized the Great Valley Basha Veterans Organization in 1981, and served as the group's first commander. He was life member of the First American Branch of the Burma Star Association. He was also a life member, former treasurer and past commander of the Carl Anspach Post 732 of the American Legion, Bernville, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885, Womelsdorf. Porto was a member of the Rajah Temple Legion of Honor, and was also a 32nd degree Mason of Williamson Lodge 307 Free and Accepted Masons, Womelsdorf. He was a member of St. John's Church, Tulpehocken Township, where he served as elder, choir member and former Sunday school teacher. Also surviving is a son, John E. Porto, Bernville; two daughters, Sheilagh (Porto) Novacki, Indianapolis, and Mary L. (Porto) Sparr, Bernville; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. There are also two sisters, Adeline (Porto) Grassi, Bernville, and Julia (Porto) Adler, Wyomissing. The Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, was in charge of arrangements.

Mohrsville, Nov 2--Adam H. Potteiger, 87, died last night in his home in this community. Born in Centre Township, a son of the late William Y. and Louise (Pauch) Potteiger, he was a retired carpenter. Potteiger was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Salem (Belleman's) Union Church, Mohrsville, RD 1, Camp 446, Patriotic Order Sons of America, and Henry J. Stager Commandery 35, POS of A. both of Centerport. Potteiger was preceded in death in 1925 by his first wife, Debbie (Schrack) Potteiger, and in 1962 by his second wife, Cora M. Wolfe Potteiger.

He is survived by three daughters; Alberta M, wife of Earl Sterling, and Luella E, wife of Milton K. Blatt, both of here, and Sara I, wife of Donald E. Brubaker, with whom he last resided, a stepson, Robert M. Wolfe, Whitfield, two step-daughters, Edith M, wife of John P. Loose, Dauberville, and Betty J., wife of Herbert Roth, this place, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother Harvey C, Reading. Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Salem (Belleman's) Lutheran Church, Mohrsville, RD 1, the Rev. John G. Light officiating. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. Potteiger, Amos W

Reading, Aug. 13.-Amos W. Potteiger, one of Reading's wealthiest citizens, as well as one of the oldest merchants, died after a short illness, aged 72 years. He was continuously in business in this city for forty-nine years. He held numerous offices of trust, and at the time of his death was one of the trustees of Muhlenberg College, Allentown.

Catharine Potteiger, daughter of Michael & Anna (Bennitch) Miller, was born June 9, 1836, in Tulpehocken township, baptized August 17, 1836, and confirmed at Christ (Little Tulpehocken). She married Jonathan K. Potteiger November 26, 1900, and died April 20, 1912, aged 76y3m11d. She is survived by her husband. Burial at Christ, Little Tulpehocken.

Reading, Pa., April 10. - Ellen Potteiger, the 5 year old daughter of Irwin Potteiger, of West Reading, died yesterday.

This makes the third death in the family in less than a week. Elsie, aged 6, died on Monday, and Gertrude, aged 10, died on Tuesday, all of scarlet fever.

Mohrsville, Dec 28--Mrs Cora M. Wolfe Potteiger, 74, of this community, died yesterday in the Reading Hospital. Born in Upper Bern Twp, she was a daughter of the Late Darias and Caroline (Marburger) Bagenstose. Her first husband, Dr Robert M. Wolfe, died 43 years ago.

Mrs Potteiger was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Belleman's Union Church and it's Ladies' Aid Society and the home department of its Sunday school. Surviving are her second husband, Adam H. Potteiger, a son, Robert M. Wolfe, Reading, two daughters: Edith M, wife of John P. Loose, Dauberville, and Betty, wife of Herbert Roth, this community. Three step-daughters: Alberta M, wife of Earl Sterling, this community, Louella, wife of Milton Blatt, Hyde Park, and Sara I., wife of Donald Brubaker, at home, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Isabella (Schock) Schrack, and was a member of the Luther denomination of Belleman's Church, the Ladies' Aid Society of the congregation and the Bible class of the Sunday school.

Potteiger - On August 12th, in Upper Bern, Eddi Josiah, son of Franklin B. and Emma Potteiger, aged 10 months and 8 days.

Potteiger, Edward

Potteiger - In Reading, November 9th, Edward Potteiger, aged 15 years and 4 months. Edward S. Potteiger, aged 16 years, committed suicide last Tuesday afternoon about 3 o'clock, by hanging himself in an outhouse on his mother's premises at No. 616 Bingaman Street. He was learning the trade of cigar maker, and in the morning complained of a pain in his head and vomited several times. The jury returned a verdict of "suicide by voluntarily hanging himself with a rope." His mother is a widow and has three other children. She says that he was a dutiful, affectionate son, and can attribute no cause for the suicide but temporary insanity. Her husband, who is dead several years, kept a grocery store at the corner of Seventh and Pine streets.

Stouchsburg, March 12 - John Potteiger died Sunday at his home here, aged 86 years. He was a native of Tulpehocken township, a son of the late Adam and Maria (Schaeffer) Potteiger. He was a retired farmer, was unmarried, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. The only survivors are a niece, Mrs. Frederick W. Goetz, Reading, and a nephew, Adam B. Potteiger, Allentown. (Pautsch) Potteiger, and was a member of the Lutheran congregation of St. Paul's Church, this place. He served as treasurer and trustee of the church and as superintendent of its Sunday school. He also was a member of the Centerport Camp, P.O.S. of A., and the Reading Lodge of Moose. For 27 years he was employed as a school teacher, and for 37 years he was proprietor of a hotel. Surviving are his widow, Alice E. (Berger) Potteiger, a daughter, Pearl, wife of Everett Braithwaite, Philadelphia, two grandchildren, a sister, Kate, widow of George A. Born in Leesport, he had been employed for 39 years by Lyons Knitwear, Temple, where he was co-owner and operator from 1955 until 1980. He retired as manager in 1994. He was a 1938 graduate of Ontelaunee Vocational School. Potteiger was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the Temple Fire Company and the Friendship Fire Company, Boyertown. Reading, Dec. 27.-William Potteiger, an extensive cattle dealer, died suddenly this evening of heart disease, at his residence, near this city, aged 61 years. He was formerly a deputy sheriff as a Democrat, but had been a Republican since 1859.

Shortly after 8 a.m. William S. Potteiger was found lying ill in the coal chutes at Andrew Hain's coal yard, 316 Plum. The Reading Hose ambulance was called and the sick man was conveyed to his home at 604 Bingaman. Mr. Potteiger seemed to be suffering much pain and although conscious he spoke very little. When asked what physician he desired called he said Dr. Sterley. Drs. Sterley and Frankhausen were called. Mr. Potteiger's condition became worse and at 10:45 a.m. he expired. The cause of death was apoplexy.

Deceased had been out of work for several weeks, but this morning told his wife that he had obtained work at Andrew Hain's coal yard. He left home at 6:30 a.m. in the best of health and spirits Deceased was born near Van Reed's paper mill in 1830. About 25 year ago he removed to Reading from Sinking spring. A widow and one daughter, Ella, survive.

A cousin of deceased, Wm. Potteiger, died suddenly of apoplexy last week while shutting a gate on his farm in Spring township.

Shartlesville, Pa., March 1.- Wilson S. Potteiger, a wealthy bachelor, 48 years of age, living in the finest home in town, during a spell of melancholia, committed suicide today by blowing the top of his head off with a shotgun. Potteiger lived with his sister Emma, and for the past year had not been in the best of health.

Ann E., daughter of Carlos G. and Stella (Yerger) Potts, died at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening at the residence of her parents, 1037 North Fourth street, aged 6 months.

Potts, Carrie M.

Carrie M. Potts, 57, died yesterday in the home of her sister, Mrs. Harry Phillips, 117 North Eighth St. She was a daughter of the late Albert L. and Miranda (Potteiger) Potts. Surviving are the sister, Ella, wife of Harry Phillips, at whose home she died, and two brothers: LeRoy C., and Clarence, both of Reading. Services Monday at 2 p. m. in the Lamm Funeral Home, Wernersville, the Rev. Scott Brenner officiating. Burial in Strausstown Cemetery.

Powell, Jacob

Relatives and friends in this city received word of the death in New Rochelle, Westchester county, N. Y., of Jacob Powell, a native of this city. Mr. Powell, who was aged 46 years, 1 month and 2 days, died of nephritus at his home in that city, after an illness of more than a week. He left this city two years ago, having been employed as a waiter at the Berkshire. He was engaged in the same capacity at New Rochelle. Mr. Powell was a member of the Methodist denomination, Elks, and several fraternal societies. He ws the last of his immediate family. Besides his widow, Fannie (Payne), there survive a daughter, Reba, wife of William Brown, this city. Funeral Director Seidel brought the remains to this city.

Powell, Nellie R.

Graveside services were held in Northumberland Memorial Park, Northumberland County, for Nellie R. Powell, 74, formerly of Hamburg, who died May 26 in Berks Heim, where she had resided for several years. She was the youngest daughter of the late Anthony and Nellie Powell and was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Powers--In this city, on the 25th inst., Phillip Powers, aged 58 years. Premici, Catherine

Catherine Premici, 86, Shillington, died April 27 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient one week.

Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Anthony S. and Agatha (Bisazza) Lombardo.

Premici was employed for many years as a shipper by Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing, and Narrow Fabric Co., West Reading, retiring in 1956. After her retirement, she was employed part time from 1982 to 1985 as a cafeteria worker in the Gov. Mifflin High School, Shillington.

She was a member of St. John Baptist de La Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.

Surviving are a son, Enrico T. Jr., Shillington; and a daughter, Mary A. (Premici) Dotterer, Kenhorst.

Other survivors include three sisters: Natalie (Lombardo) o'Neill, Wyomissing; Joanne (Lombardo) Goerner, Reading; and Mary (Lombardo) Vetovich, Sinking Spring.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. John Baptist de La Salle Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

In this city, on the 10th, Emma S., widow of the late Phillip Presser aged 64 years 6 months and 28 days. Preston, J. Philip

J. Philip Preston, 61, South Heidelberg Township, died Oct. 8 at 3:35 p.m. in University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, where he had been a patient since Sept. 29.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late J. Richard and Anna P. (Freehafer) Preston.

He was a South Heidelberg Township supervisor and was a member of the BARTA board of directors.

Preston had been employed for 35 years with the Berks County Intermediate Unit, where he was buildings and transportation supervisor. He was additionally employed with Berks Vocational-Technical School, where he was a materials handling instructor, retiring in August 2003.

Preston was a former machinist with Textile Machine Works, Wyomissing, for several years.

He was a 1960 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School and received a bachelor's degree from Penn State University.

Preston is also survived by a daughter, Heather L. (Preston) Kreider, South Heidelberg Township; and two sons, J. Andrew, Wernersville, and Brett P., Harleysville, Montgomery County.

Other survivors include a brother, Robert H., South Heidelberg Township, and five grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville. Burial will be in Bern Church Cemetery.

Among the local survivors of Alverda C. (Brooks) Walborn Price, who died March 1 in her Reading residence, is a daughter, Betty (Harting) Bleiler, Fleetwood.

Charlotte M. Price, 86, formerly of Wyomissing, died June 1 at 8:15 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for one week. She was taken there from Phoebe Berks Village, Wernersville, where she had resided since April 21. Her husband, John R. Price, died April 16, 1987. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Ralph M. and Charlotte S. (Gates) Miller. Price had been employed as a secretary and organist by the Theo C. Auman Funeral Home Inc. from 1941-1985, and also served as corporate secretary from 1975-1984. She was also corporate secretary at M&I Realty Corp., Reading, from 1975-1990. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Reading, where she served as assistant organist from 1936-1979; was a choir member since 1936; and was a past deacon and president of the consistory. Price was a 1935 graduate of Lancaster High School and a 1938 graduate of the Helen Moore Hoffman Secretarial School for Girls. She was past worthy matron of Golden Rule Chapter 390 Order of the Eastern Star, West Reading. Price was past president of the Pagoda Chapter of Professional Secretaries International. She was a charter member of the ladies auxiliary of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Reading. Price was a guest lecturer on music and funeral service at the National Foundation of Funeral Service, Evanston, Ill., from 1957-1973. She is survived by a sister, Shirley Ann (Miller) Bischoff, Newmanstown, Lebanon County. Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in First UCC. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Deceased was an active member of the First Reformed Church and Sunday school. She was a milliner by trade.

Price was employed for 13 1/2 years as a sewing machine operator by Gotham Lingerie Inc., Reading, retiring in 1971. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington. Surviving are a daughter, Mary A. (Price) Green, with whom she last resided; and two stepdaughters: A. Dolores (Price) Sowers, Sinking Spring, and Marguerite (Price) Hyneman, Birdsboro. Pritchard, Dorothy Mae

Dorothy Mae Pritchard, 70, of New Ringgold, died Saturday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Born in Bronx, N.Y., June 30, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Estella O'Coner. During World War II, she volunteered at Bellevue Hospital in New York. She was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for several local manufacturers, a real estate salesperson in Philadelphia, and was bookkeeper and secretary for Kutztown University and Berks Heim Nursing Home, Reading. She was of the Lutheran faith. A daughter, Corine Pritchard, died in 1960; a son, Mark, died in 1962. Surviving are her husband of 46 years, James I.; four sons: James I., New Ringgold, Thomas D., RD Orwigsburg, and Timothy L. and Matthew C., both of RD Auburn; a sister Ruth Pritchard, Friedensburg. Pullano, Victoria I.

Victoria I. Pullano, 70, Wyomissing, died of natural causes Aug. 15 2004 at 1:15 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for two days.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Walter J. and Ruth E. (Heft) Pelker.

Pullano had been employed for 18 years by VF Outlets, Wyomissing, retiring as a supervisor in 1999.

Pullano is survived by a son, Joseph Pullano Jr., Wyomissing, and a daughter, Susanne (Pullano) Mengel, Muhlenberg Park.

Other survivors include three brothers, Walter J. Pelker Jr. and Robert Pelker, both of Reading, and Gerald Pelker, Denver, Lancaster County; and three sisters: June (Pelker) VanPelt, West Wyomissing; Arlene (Pelker) Guti, Reading; and Joan (Pelker) Aquila, Shillington.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Auman Funeral Homes, Reiffton. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Marie M. Purcell, 86, of Reading, formerly of Pottsville, died Sunday at Kutztown Manor, where she was a resident. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Sable Pribula. She was employed by Camp Hosiery as a pairer for 12 years before retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, in 1983; a daughter, Marie M. Wendell, in 1996. Surviving are a daughter, Louise P. Lingenfelser, Jefferson Township, Berks County; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services and interment will be private. Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Purnell, William I.

William I. Purnell, 85, of Pleasant View Retirement Home, Manheim, formerly of Lititz, died Tuesday in Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Gilberton, April 15, 1916, he was a son of the late William H. and Irene Neifert Purnell. He was a graduate of Gilberton High School and Kutztown University. He was a teacher and basketball coach at Gilberton High School and later taught in Mount Penn High School, Berks County, serving as department head, assistant high school principal, senior class adviser, basketball coach and athletic director, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Kiwanis, PSEA, NEA, MPEA, Lititz Young Mens' Business League and Pennsylvania Athletic Directors Association. His wife, the former Evelyn Fellows, died in 1979. Surviving are two daughters, Melanie Hilbert, Lititz, and Lyn Wertenberger, Bradford; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Lamar Christ Funeral Home, Hometown. The Rev. Richard Purnell will officiate. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.

Andrew N. Putt, 30, of West Lincoln Avenue, Robesonia, was pronounced dead July 19, at 10:40 p.m. in the Marriott Hotel at Philadelphia International Airport by the Philadelphia Medical Examinier's Office. The cause of death is under investigation. Details were unavailable Saturday night. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Harol P. & Elaine M. (Beidler) Putt. Putt had been self-employed as an investor. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia. Putt was a 1990 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School, and a 1994 graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He is survived by three brothers: Jacob D., Wernersville, Harold P. Jr., Womelsdorf and Charles W., Robesonia; and by three sisters: Diane A. (Putt) Impink, Cheryl L. (Putt) Delp, both of Wernersville and Beth A. Sattizahn, Robesonia. She was predeceased by her husband, Oliver W. Putt Sr., who died in 1979. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the Rufus V. and Grace E. (Hartman) Wilson. Until retiring as supervisor in 1974, she had been employed as a cafeteria worker by the Muhlenberg School District as a cafeteria worker. Surviving are a son, David A. Putt, Elaine M.

Elaine M. Putt, 53, former Womelsdorf tax collector, died of natural causes Friday at 6:15 p.m. in her residence at 6 Crossgate Lane, Heidelberg, Township. She served eight years as tax collector, relinquishing her duties earlier this year. Putt, who was afflicted with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, took part with her son, Andrew N., in the Reading Phillies first fundraiser for the disease June 17. Andrew, with whom she resided, helped organize the event. Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Susan (Miller) Beidler. Putt was employed three years as a computer aide for Conrad Weiser High School, last working June 30. She had previously worked for McGlinn Capital Management, Wyomissing, and GPU Energy, Muhlenberg Township. She had also worked in administrative support for the state Independent Living Council. Putt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia. She was a 1964 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School. Also surviving is a daughter, Beth A. (Putt) Sattizahn, Pine Grove, Schuylkill County. Other survivors include a granddaughter. Services will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Trinity Church. Burial will be in Host Church Cemetery, Tulpehocken Township. Born in Heidelberg Township, she was a daughter of the Charles and Sarah (Brossman) Klopp. Her husband, Jacob F. Putt, died Feb. 19, 1970. Mrs. Putt had been employed by the former Reading Clothing Co. for seven years, last working in 1946. Surviving are three sons: Harold P. and Charles J., both of Robesonia, and William R., Womelsdorf. Nine daughters: Mary, wife of Paul Grill, Reading; Pauline, wife of Lenus Benson, Palmyra; Anna Mae Kiscadden, Womelsdorf; and Norma, wife of Edward Plank, with whom she last resided; Marian, wife of John Hummel; Doris, wife of John George; and Mabel, wife of Norman Speicher, all of Robesonia; and Viola Boltz and Arlene Essig, both of Robesonia; 44 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. Putt, Harold

Harold Putt, founder of two kitchen firms. Harold P. "Jake" Putt Sr., retired Berks County kitchen manufacturer, died June 19 at 9:55 p.m. in Country Meadows of Wyomissing, where he had resided since April 8. Putt, 83, formerly of South Heidelberg Township, was the founder and former co-owner of Rich Maid Kitchens, Wernersville. He was also the founder and former owner and president of Rich Craft Kitchens, Robesonia, from 1970 until his retirement in 1989. Born in Robesonia, he was a son of the late Jacob F. and Esther (Klopp) Putt. In May, Putt received a special honorary member award for his outstanding contributions from the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association. He served as an association director from 1967 to 1969 and 1980 to 1989 and served on several committees. Putt hosted plant tours and served as a mentor for several other cabinet manufactureres. He was a 1936 graduate of Robesonia H.S. Putt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia. He was a charter member of the Robesonia Golf League. Putt was inducted into the Berks County Basketball Old-Timers Association in 1998 and the Conrad Weiser Old-Timers Hall of Fame earlier this year. Surviving are two daughters: Diane A. (Putt) Impink and Cheryl L. (Putt) Delp, both of Wernersville; and four sons: Jacob D., Wernersville; Harold P. Jr., Womelsdorf; and Charles W. and Andrew N., both of Robesonia. Other survivors include two brothers: Charles, Robesonia, and William, Womelsdorf; and six sisters: Pauline (Putt) Benson, Palmyra, Lebanon County; Norma (Putt) Plank, Sinking Spring; Marion (Putt) Hummel, Lebanon; Anna M. William R. Putt, 79, Womelsdorf, died Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Reading Hospital. His wife, Marian L. (Auchenbach) Putt, died Aug. 7, 1997. Born in Robesonia, he was a son of the late Jacob F. and Esther (Klopp) Putt. Putt had been employed for 42 years as a carpenter by Berkshire Greens Inc., Flying Hills, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Womelsdorf. Putt served on the board of Womelsdorf Union Cemetery. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Putt is survived by two sons: Michael L., Harrisburg and Joseph W., with whom he resided. Other survivors include a brother, Charles, Robesonia, and five sisters: Anna Mae (Putt) Kiscadden and Mabel (Putt) Speicher, both of Robesonia; Marian (Putt) Hummel, Cornwall, Lebanon County; Pauline (Putt) Benson, Palmyra, Lebanon County; and Norma (Putt) Planak, Sining Spring. There is also one granddaughter. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Zion UCC. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township. Pyanoe, Patricia H.

Services were held in Bern Lutheran Church, Bern Township, for Patricia H. Pyanoe, 64, of Blossom Court, Bern Township, who died of natural causes March 30 in Monmouth County Hospital, Long Branch, N.J. Burial was in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton. She was predeceased by her husband, James T. Pyanoe, who died in July. Born in Laureldale, she was the daughter of the late Franklin T. and Grace M. (Moyer) Henry. She was a 1956 graduate of Gov. Mifflin High School and a 1960 graduate of Kutztown University where she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She also received a master's degree from Rutger's University, New Brunswick, N.J. Until retiring, she was last employed as a guidance counselor in the Wall Township (N.J.) School District. She was previously employed as an elementary teacher in the Gov. Mifflin School District. Surviving are a niece, Diana Hemig, Shoemakersville; and three nephews: Frank Henry, Schuylkill Haven; Michael Henry, Bernville; and Roy McDonald, Blandon. The Ebling Funeral Home, Cressona, Schuylkill County, was in charge of arrangements.
