This booklet was in my Mother's (Anna May Lines Lilley) possession, and quite possibly belonged to my Grandmother (Hattie Siegfried Lines). It has no cover. There is no flyleaf with the date of publication, nor the compiler's name. I have copied it as written, in the same page format. It is quite small, 4"x5". I have added in Italics any notations written into the book by my Mother.
Captain Philip Womelsdorf (and wife, Hermione), soldier and churchman, landed in America from the Swiss " Engadine" or Austrian "Tyrol"
about the year 1646, with many Huguenots, coming to this country to escape the persecution of the Catholics. He landed in the vicinity of what is now Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Note:- Captain Womelsdorf was the third and youngest son of Baron Karl Womelsdorf whose descendents are now living in Keil Satrup, Germany. One of the German branches of the family coming to this country as late as 1880, is Karl
Womelsdorf, Superintendent of Public Schools in Sandusky, Ohio. The Womelsdorfs were relatives of the Moravian Zinzendorfs, but the family were Lutherans.
Peter Womelsdorf, son of the above Philip Womelsdorf, was married to an Indian woman (MINORCA) in 1674, on the Connestoga River, in what is now Lancaster county, Pa. (Pennsylvania Archives.) Note:-Whether Peter Womelsdorf had brothers or sisters, we have no record.
Daniel Womelsdorf, son of the above Peter Womelsdorf, was married about 1707 to a Miss McMichael, from near where Lebanon now stands. He was a celebrated pioneer, and well known among the Indians as a "famous shot" and a great hunter. Note:- It has been claimed by members of the family that he was not of the Indian woman's issue, but the son of a white woman, the second wife of Daniel Womelsdorf, but this we have no data to establish.
John Womelsdorf, son of the above Daniel Womelsdorf, was born about 1710 near Reading, Pa. Mary Womelsdorf, his sister, was married to Samuel Head, Dec. 20th, 1748, in Christ Church, Philadelphia. (vol. 8, page 291, Pennsylvania Archives). His sister, Hanna Womelsdorf, was married to David Weidner in the Lutheran Church, New Harmony, Pa., Nov.15, 1764. (Vol. 8, page 660, Pennsylvania Archives.) Note:- We are not certain whether Hanna referred to above was his sister or his daughter-a sister of Captain Daniel Womelsdorf.
Captain Daniel Womelsdorf, II, son of John Womelsdorf, above, born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, was married to Anna Eava Weiser, grand-daughter of Conrad Weiser, (the last Chief Justice of Pennsylvania), and is registered on January 25th, 1776, as Second Lieutenant in Captain Michael Furrer's company of Colonel Patton's battalion (Pennsylvania in the Revolution, page 262, vol. 4, and Pennsylvania Archives, vol. 14), and again on May 17th, 1777, one year later, in 6th battalion, 4th company, as First Lieutenant Daniel Womelsdorf. (Pennsylvania in the Revolution, page 287, vol. 4, and Pennsylvania Archives vol 14.)
Commissions for these officers of Battalion were sent to Colonel Morgan, June 14th, 1777. (Pennsylvania in the Revolution, vol.2, and Pennsylvania Archives, vol. 14).
Grandma Lines (Hattie Siegfried) 2nd Great GrandfatherDaniel Womelsdorf III, son of Captain Daniel Womelsdorf (Revolutionary Soldier) was married to Eava Moyer, daughter of Philip Moyer and Anna Maria Unrhue, in Womelsdorf, Penna. He was a private soldier in Captain Michael Peters' company, from Berks and Lancaster counties, Penna., Second Regiment, First Brigade, Col. Adam Richards, at York, Pa., Sept. 5th, 1815.
